Intuition You Always Know What To Do

Intuition
You Always Know
What To Do

I think that it is less complicated to uncover the secrets of the universe than we have been lead to believe. I have listened to many so-called teachers both from media sources and on line. They all seem to over complicate things when talking about the very spiritual world we are all, at least to some degree a part of.

There are those who try and bring the information to us in a way that we can understand but many who are more trying to confuse us than help. In a great number of those cases I believe that it is the teacher who is confused and that is more the problem than the overall information that we need being so difficult to understand.

The truth is I actually imagine, that we are all to a much greater degree than we are aware, already in possession of everything we need to know. We are connected to source much more than we recognize and can (And Do) always know the right answer to everything. As I have mentioned many times in the past, we just don’t like the answer we get sometimes and do things differently even when we know it is a mistake.

You can call it intuition or instinct but what ever you refer to this natural phenomenon as, it is there in all of us. Frequently it shows up more apparently in animals than in humans. (There is probably less thinking going on.)
One day I was talking my walk around Oceanside Harbor. I saw a man with a pretty good size dog (German Shepherd style) As I approached; the thought crossed my mind that this dog wills probably “Go Off” on me. My thought was that he would probably react by barking and growling and acting as if he were going to attack. As sure as the world when I got close that was exactly what happened. The guy apologized and said he was shocked; his dog rarely ever acted that way. He made those comments to another person he was talking to and I just kept walking. As I started back that way I realized that it was me who with my own thoughts caused the dog to react and made it my business to approach this time with the thought that the dog would immediately like me and would be very friendly. When I got near, the man started to apologize again. I stopped and told him that I was sure I knew why the dog had reacted the way he had. By this time the dog was standing beside me licking my leg. The owner was amazed and very pleased. The same dog that wanted to attack me five minutes ago was my best friend now.

That same power operates in all of us and we all have access to it. Some use it more than others and some believe that it eludes them all together. It does not; they simply choose not to listen to that very quiet voice within.

The same type phenomena in other areas of our life work all of the time as well. There is rarely a time when an important decision needs to be made that we don’t know exactly what to do. It is our practice to try and analyze the situation and figure it out logically. That is usually the wrong approach. The answer being provided by the universe is nearly always apparent as well as right.

The best way to explain is the same way I always explain this. If it is that connection to GOD that is telling you what to do it will never try and convince you. Never defend its position. If it is your EGO it will use every means available to convince you that it is right. Any time there is any urgency or need to convince you that it is the right thing it is not the hand of divinity that is guiding you. The Devine simply knows and you can do it that way or not, it is your decision.

Start using that intuition we all have and change your life.

German Shepherd Healthy Weight

german shepherd healthy weight
How do I put weight on my German Shepherd?

I have a 3 year old German Shepherd that needs more weight put on her. Don’t worry I have brought her to the vet on 7/22/08 and the vet said she is perfectly healthy so it is not that big of a concern. But I like my animals to be of perfect weight, not under weight. She is a healthy, VERY active dog and has a hard time keeping weight on. We are feeding her high fat puppy food mixed with a half of can food and a cup of oat meal to try and get her to gain weight. So is there any other diet I can give her for weight gain?

Get her on high-energy adult dog food. It will have more protein in it.

What My Dog Teaches Me About Diet

We have this old dog. He’s part Siberian Husky and part Great Pyrenees. He lives to run. And he’s skinny and lean and strong, even though he’s pretty old. He has taught us a lot about how to control weight and stay in good shape.

It’s simple really. Eat well and get lots of exercise.

Our dog is big, bigger than most German Shepherds, or Golden Retrievers or Labs.

But he is NOT fat.

His weigh stays between 58 pounds and 62 pounds all the time, skinny for a dog his size. Some dogs as large as he is will weigh 90 pounds or more.

But he is a picky eater.

I make most of what he eats because he won’t eat dog food.

How much he eats depends on the weather. When it’s relatively warm in our mountain location he will eat once a day.

But on days when we get bitterly cold weather he may eat 3 times in one day. Today is Feb. 22nd. We have had snow on the ground here continuously since Dec. 18th, over 2 months.

We only feed our dog when he asks for food. He just will not eat if he is not hungry.

If he wants something he will come over to one of us and look at us very intently and then lick his lips. That’s the signal that he wants some food. We call it the “puppy mind meld”.

The rest of the time he is very active. He walks with us, usually 5 miles a day and he spends the rest of his time on guard.

We need a guard dog because we have large predators like bobcats and black bears.

But the really interesting thing about our dog is he controls his own weight. He has the deep strong chest you see on sled dogs and no belly at all.

His weight never varies more than about 4 pounds, running a bit less in hot weather and more when it’s cold.

When he’s had enough to eat he stops eating and he never eats dessert, unlike us humans.

His food consists of brown rice simmered in poultry bone broth (Dr. David Williams’ recipe for humans), some meat, and some cheese. I simmer up all the ingredients in a big stew pot and then strain it and freeze it. I usually get about 16 pints at a time. He also eats things like carrots, garlic and celery if they have been simmered with meat. In winter we may give him a little fat, too.

If we all ate like our dog does, not necessarily the same things but good food for humans, we would get old, but still be lean and strong and healthy, too. It’s a lot better than the health problems that come with being overweight like bad joints, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

It might be good to emulate our dog. Leaner people stay healthier. They can exercise because they have fewer joint problems. They may not develop other health problems that are associated with obesity, either.

And that’s a big win for everyone.

German Shepherd Fights Wolf

german shepherd fights wolf
Wolf VS trained police german shepherd?

Which will win in a fight?

That’s not a question you should be thinking about. It shows uncivilised instincts.
But if you had been ACTUALLY thinking you would not have needed to ask anyone.

(1) The GSD’s police training is not about fighting wolves or even about fighting dogs, it is about scenting and about stopping a human. The German wolf was effectively extinct when the GSD breed was developed (the wolf that is a close ancestor of the breed was a captive in a zoo), and so the GSD didn’t need to be big enough to fight wolves on equal terms – it is a herding breed with ability to protect, not an outright guard dog like the big pale woolly-coated sheep dogs. That police training would put the GSD at a disadvantage, even without the wolf’s advantage of bigger fangs and greater height & weight for bearing-down with. But the police GSD’s partner would have no hesitation in shooting a wolf that was about to attack his canine partner.
(2) Wolves are pack animals, so a GSD without its policeman partner would be hopelessly out-numbered. Even WITH its policeman partner the odds of the GSD surviving are not good, a handgun having a limited magazine and very limited accuracy, so the outcome would pretty much depend on WHY the wolves were attacking plus the number of wolves vs the cop’s accuracy.
(3) Why would the wolf/wolves WANT to fight? Dogs are territorial (meaning that they protect a territory and are braver in it than out of it), wolves even more so. The police dog SHOULD be under voice control from its human partner, so would not be out to start a fight, and any sensible cop would call his dog to heel so that the two of them present as a courageous team to the wolf/wolves. The wolf/wolves would attack only if they needed the GSD & cop as food or considered them to be attempting to take over control of some of the pack’s territory. It would have to have been a very poor season for calves and mice for me to expect wolves to attack a GSD and cop. But you may be luckier than you deserve and get one of the wolf experts to respond, with more authority than I have – GSDs are my thing, with my interest in wolves being purely because of the ancestral connections and the many similarities. But when it comes to living with humans, the genuine GSD is clearly superior.

If you are interested in wolves, look up some of the studies, of which the ones on Isle Royale are the best known, although some of the early conclusions were later declared to be misinterpretations. Choose from these sites: http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=%22wolves%22%2B%22isle+royale%22&btnG=Search&meta= Among the things that might surprise you is that the researchers were able to go to nestling wolves and handle them – the mother would move away from the nest in the presence of humans.
After all, Little Red Riding survived her encounters with a wolf, didn’t she? VBG

“Alex”, for one, needs to study the breeding behaviours of non-domesticated animals such as wolves and coyotes and lions, etc. Talk about incest, Trev!

Famous Pets

Over the years, pets have become famous for all different reasons. We know famous pets from television, movies, politics and even from their famous owners. Depending on your age you may remember everyone’s favorite German Shepherd, Rin Tin Tin. The  original  Rin Tin Tin  was a puppy found by an American soldier in France during World War I.  The dog became famous  for  being in movies.  In the 1950’s a television show based on this dog became popular.

Another famous pet from the 1950’s was the much loved Lassie. Lassie was on television from 1954 to 1973. The female Lassie was actually played by various male collies, all related to the original dog, Pal. Lassie first came to life as a main character in a short story written in the Saturday Evening Post in 1938. That lead to the book “Lassie, Come Home” and the movie of the same name.

There were famous horses on television too. You probably all remember Mr. Ed, the talking horse. Of course only Mr. Ed’s owner Wilbur ever heard him talking. Mr. Ed was played by a Palomino horse. Trainers got Mr. Ed  to move his lips like he was talking by giving him peanut butter. The comedy was on television from 1961 to 1965. The famous cowboy Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger performed together for over 25 years. Another popular television show from the 1950’s was The Lone Ranger. He was a Texas marshall fighting crime in the old West. He had a big white horse called Silver.

Some more recent famous pets from television and movies include, White Fang, about a wolf-dog’s journey through the Yukon territory during the Klondike Gold Rush, and who could forget Hooch from Turner and Hooch? Turner, played by Tom Hanks was a neat freak that got stuck with a murder victim’s dog. Hooch  was played by a Dogue de Bordeaux, which is a type of mastiff. Of course Hooch  was a big  slobbery mess.  In the movie, Hooch gives up his life to save Turner.

From more recent television, we  became familiar with Eddie, the Jack Russell terrier from Frazier, and from the 1980’s, Zeus and Apollo, the Doberman Pinschers from Magnum P.I.  Some of my favorite pets from television are cartoons. Think of Dino the Dinosaur from the Flintstones. Dino barked like a dog, ran around like a dog, licking faces and catching sticks. In fact Dino was not a dog, he was a snorkasaurus. Let’s not forget about Astro, the Jetsons dog. Young Elroy finds the stray dog and takes him home. Of   course   Elroy is  not allowed to keep the dog until Astro saves the family from a burglar. Dino and Astro were important family members to the Flintstones and Jetsons, just like our dogs are important family members to us.

In thinking of famous pets, let’s not forget the pets of the political world. Winston Churchill had an orange cat named Jock. The Carters had a Siamese cat and the Clinton family had a black and white cat named Socks. Franklin Roosevelt had a Scottish terrier, as did George H. W. Bush and Laura. John Quincy Adams kept an alligator in a White House bathroom. It was a gift from the Marquis de Lafayette. Calvin Coolidge had raccoons running around the White House. Who knew it was so crazy at the President’s house? These are just a few famous pets. What famous pets do you know?

Siberian Husky German Shepherd Mix Puppies

siberian husky german shepherd mix puppies
How do I know my 5 month old Siberian Husky / German Shepherd mix puppy is getting fed enough?

I have two 5 month old Siberian husky / German shepherd mix puppies who look a little on the slim side. Everything else about them is perfectly fine but they want to eat constantly and when it is feeding time they scarf down they’re food so fast as if they’re starving but they don’t get aggressive with one another about it.
They are 45 – 55 lbs right now and we have been feeding them Chicken Soup for Adult dogs which the serving size for them says 2 1/2 to 3 1/3 cups 3 times a day.
We recently switched to Diamond Adult dog food which states the same serving size for their weight.
I feed them a little more than 3 1/3 for their last feeding session of the day but they still look so slim. I cant see their ribs or anything but their belly looks empty.
Can someone please give me some insight???

I recommend that you intervene during feeding time. It’s unhealthy for them to be eating so rapidly. You have two dogs with deep, narrow chests who are predisposed to something called bloat, which can certainly be caused by practically inhaling their food:

http://www.globalspan.net/bloat.htm

There are several ways to slow them down during feeding time. You can place a large, clean river rock or an aluminum can in the dish to create an obstacle to eat around. You can put the food on something like a cookie sheet, so it’s spread out and takes longer to eat. You can buy bowls online that are built with several raised pegs that the dog needs to eat around to slow eating.

Anyway! They sound pretty healthy to me. Try grading them according to this scale:

East German Shepherd Ddr

What’s the difference between the German Shepherd Working line West vs. East German (DDR)?

I was wondering what the difference is between the different types of German Shepherd working line dogs, mainly West German and East German. Which lines do you prefer? Also, are there any famous dogs from either lines that are well known?

WOT “working lines”?
In my rarely-humble opinion, a working dog is one that earns its living every day, so is a detection dog or a guide dog or a herding dog. Police dogs work, but only in bursts. Search&Rescue dogs work, but rarely for more than a day.
People who rabbit on about “working dogs” almost invariably actually mean SPORT dogs. Sport dogs are as close to the correct GSD as are show dogs – in both cases the breeders aim for extremes, it’s just that their desired extremes are in very different directions.

WOT “DDR lines”?
Could you read, back when the Berlin Wall tumbled (November 1989) and the DDR ceased to exist? Work out how far back in the pedigree each actual DDR dog must be by now.

Realise that WHERE a pooch comes from is far less important than WHO chose the breeding partners (and why), and HOW the progeny were reared.

However, I can probably satisfy your current curiosity by giving the pre-history of a line of GSDs working in the Catskills in New York state:
MANY years ago, just before the DDR was finally closed off from the west, a young shepherd realised that the Soviet police were after him, so he & his GSD hurriedly escaped to West Germany. That makes both him and his dog “DDR lines”.
In West Germany he leased an occasional bit.ch and mated her to his current dog, and whenever he could he competed in the SV’s annual HGH championship, winning in these years with these dogs:
1954 ERWIN vd. SOBRIGAUER HÖHE
1959 CHLOTAR v. DREIBRÜDERHOF
1963 ERLO vd. STAMMHERDE RAMHOLZ
1967, 1969, 1970 NANDO vd. STAMMHERDE RAMHOLZ
1972, 1973, 1975 WITZ vd. STAMMHERDE RAMHOLZ
1976 EDO vd STAMMHERDE RAMHOLZ
1981, 1984, 1985 FAX
All trained by, and most bred by, Manfred Heyne (for their parentage see http://www.german-shepherdherding.com/manfred-english/index.html which is actually an interview with Manfred). And he did what was deemed impossible – won the HGH trophy outright, so that the SV had to have a new one made!
Then a GSD-loving Yank accountant bought a run-down farm and went to Germany to have her bit.ch mated to Manfred’s dog, and to learn all she could from him before returning to Yankeeland and whelping her bit.ch, from which she kept “Nicky”. That “Nicky” was instinctively a GENUINE GSD cannot be doubted. In addition to “explaining” to her that what she was telling him to do with the flock was wrong, his character was such that he forced to a stop a bulldozer that was attempting to take a short cut across the day’s patrol line; yet on another occasion, when a city-kids baseball team was left in his care while the farmer made a hurried trip to town, he trained the boys so that some patrolled the boundary for him while others patted him and another fetched him bowls of water.
“Nicky” died nearly 2 years ago, but she currently has 7 of his children & grand children working or started, including one who was returned to her from Germany when Manfred became too old to continue herding.
Some of “Nicky”s exploits are featured in the http://www.ddrlegends.com/nicky.html web-site.

Some other GSDs which showed the traits we love in our breed, but which didn’t get the Hollywood or TV treatment were:
• 1943 Chips, a GSD x Husky x Collie donated to the 3rd Infantry Division as a sentry dog by his New York master, served in 8 campaigns that took him through North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. On 10 July, during the invasion of Sicily, his unit was pinned down by machine gun fire. Chips charged the post and, despite taking several bullets, mauled the occupants & forced their surrender. Dwight D Eisenhower met him & awarded him a Silver Star and a Purple Heart, making him the most-decorated war dog of WW2 (The army later withdrew them, scared of the awards insulting human soldiers or their families)
• 1944 On 6 June Brian, a GSD attached to Britain’s 13th Battalion Airborne Division, parachuted into Normandy with his unit at the start of D-Day
• 1947 On 15 August an explosion in the William pit, under the sea off Whitehaven, UK, killed 104 miners. Jet of Iada, retired after an immense amount of rescue work during the Blitz, was taken underground WITHOUT the breathing equipment that the rescue workers needed to survive the toxic fumes. Though gasping for breath, Jet was nevertheless alert enough to push his handler to safety just before another section of tunnel collapsed. Forget about famous ancestors – we are breeding with just what is available via the sire & dam and their 4 parents. Checking further back is important for avoiding recessives, but not for producing the points you DO want.

Is this a normal reaction in dogs?

I have a poodle and a german shepherd mix. The german shepherd is a little puppy but she still outweighs the poodle by almost 20 pounds. When she has a bone or a toy and the poodle tries to get it she will get really agressive with him. Is this normal?

Yes. Your german shepherd is dominating his toy and food, which is kind of understandable. I sure would snap at someone if they tried to take my food. Try keeping your poodle away when your GS is busy with his toy or food.

Water Puppies by Nightingale Bullies

We can learn a bit from “people” medicine – water babies (hydrops) is usually from lack of red blood cells in the baby as a result of an infection or immune reaction.

It can effect only one pup in a litter or the entire litter. Water puppies are impossible to deliver naturally, they are huge, swollen, waterlogged puppies. A c-section is a must, as these puppies are generally 2 – 4x the size of their littermates.

These pups range from mild, medium to severely effected.

They do not get STUCK in the birth canal, they do not get that far, as they block the birth canal.

If your dam is pushing on a single puppy, contractions for 2 hours, without puppy presentation into the birth canal, especially after delivering one or two normal pups, you should seek veterinary assistance, as the remaining pups can die, along with the dam.

This is a Medical Emergency!

There are many opinions on why these water pups develop, some say it is congenital or environmental, some say diet, trauma to the dam, or even a virus. There is no evidence to show it is hereditary, but it does effect some breeds more than others. Especially the Bulldog & flat faced breeds including, Boston Terriers, English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Shar Pei, Bullmastiff, Basset Hound, Chow Chow, and Pugs.

It has occurred in crossbred dogs, and pedigree dogs, such as the Borzoi, Maltese, Labrador Retriever, Schnauzers, Bichon Frise, Chihuahuas, German Shepherd, Old English Sheepdog (Bobtail), Poodle, Great Dane, German Pointer &, in a wolf from zoo/wildlife -park.

An x-ray does not always show the larger size of these puppies, as the weight is mostly fluid. An ultrasound is thought to detect these puppies.

Water pups are usually born alive, limp, and weak, and they look like someone blew them up, like a balloon. The dam was supplying the needed oxygen and nutrition through the placenta and cord, but soon after birth the medium to severely effected pup will suffocate by the pressure of the fluid.

The mildly effected pups that survive the first 2 – 3 days, have been reported to become normal, and others say there were other underlying problems and they died within the first week.

The choice to try and save, or to let the pup go without suffering, will be between you and your vet, how much experience you have behind you, and if you are willing to put in the time PLUS be prepared for heartache. Trying to save these pups at this time, is considered experimental.

The cause or treatment of this condition is un- known at this time.

Treatment:

Treatment needs to be given right away for a mildly effected pup.

Elevate the head and extend the neck for a more clear air way.

To encourage urination run one or two fingers over the genitalia.

Some veterinarians have recently had great success using Lasix in saving water puppies. Lasix is the brand name of the chemical Furosemide. Furosemide is a diuretic-saluretic, which inhibits the re-absorption of sodium (salt). The drug is administered intravenously immediately after birth of the water puppy. Administer furosemide (Lasix) .1 to .2 ml intramuscularly, to increase urination, this can be repeated every 30 to 45 minutes for three injections. Caution: more than three could cause dehydration.

Keep the pups warm and stimulate urination as described above every 2 – 3 minutes.

Elastic bandages have also been used to push out fluid (not too tight).

Mildly effected pups can take 1 to 2 hours to breathe normally. Moderately effected pups take 90 minutes to 4 hours to breathe normal. Medium to severely effected pups are difficult to save, they usually drown within 30 minutes. Severely bloated pups, have been known to split open at the abdomen, just from handling.

Some signs for you to watch your pregnant female for are: drinking large amounts of water, nipples and surrounding tissues have a shiny look, nipples produce a fluid, very early in pregnancy.

Autopsies have shown, that the organs are saturated in fluid and the life sustaining organs, cannot function, causing the pups to drown.

Theories:

A inuterine reaction to sodium, or an inability to process proteins. Hypothyrodism, as well as an inability of the lymphmatic system to drain effectively due to the anatomy.

None of these ideas have ever been proven.

Water puppies are often seen associated with a combination of vertebral column defects and often have further abnormalities particularly cleft palates

Some Findings on causes : (still not proven)

– Congenital anasarca (congenital generalised subcutaneous oedema). The aetiology of congenital anasarca is not well defined (prenatal cardiovascular anomaly)

— A traumatic origin (with disruption of the placenta) as a foetus suffering from anasarca is usually the sole occupant of a uterine horn filled with a large amount of haemorrhagic fluid.

— Could be caused by a virus, it has been attributed to the after-effects of the mother’s oronasal infection with the minute virus during the last trimester of pregnancy associated with myocarditis. In the latter case, elasticity of the foetus’ skin allows extravasation of transudate that is compensated for by the immediate supply of fluid via the umbilical cord.

– malformation of the lymphatic drainage system

Prevention:

Low salt diet.

Reduce potential Trauma (isolate pregnant dams)

Autogenous minute virus vaccine in the case suspicion of minute virus (anarsarca en-zootic within the same breeding facility).

German Shepherd Dander

What happens when your significant other is allergic to your pet?

Me and my boyfriend live together and i have had to keep my dog at my parents house. i miss my dog *she is a german shepherd husky and i had her since she was a baby so about 3-3.5 years* He is allergic to dog dander and gets red bumps and itches and sneezes like crazy. He is also in the military if that makes a difference. I don’t want to get rid of either. i love both. this isn’t a guy i just want to get rid of because i think he is the one (and so does my mother lol)

what do i do? please as many suggestions as possible!

I have to tell you….every person I know who has rehomed their dog or cat because their “boyfriend or S.O.” is allergic has regretted it! And you might possibly resent him and be angry with yourself as time goes on. The pharmicutiacal industry has come a long way in dealing with this issue. Is your boyfriend willing to make changes in his life to allow you to keep your dog? Ask him. If not…..you may have your answer as to whether of not “he is the one”

Do Allergy Free Dogs Exist?

If you’re a dog lover, chances are the very worst thing that could happen is that you, or a loved one, is diagnosed with an allergy to man’s best friend. It happens though, and if it does, you’re likely to be looking for options to cope.

The obvious choice, although the hardest, would be to stop keeping dogs as pets. Or you might seek out treatment for the allergy, or make sure your dogs are always bathed and brushed, minimizing the likelihood of reaction. What if I told you there are some allergy free dog breeds out there though?
It’s true – some breeds are considered hypoallergenic, or allergy free dogs, and if you chose to adopt one of these allergy free dogs, you would minimize, or even eliminate, most of the symptoms and reactions of a dog allergy!

Here are a few of the allergy free dogs you might want to consider if this is your problem:

Hairless Breeds
Yes, they’re certainly not pretty – some of them look like little aliens in fact, but hairless dogs are certainly allergy friendly! Try looking at the Chinese Crested or Mexican Hairless breeds, among other hairless breeds. The good news is that while these breeds might look strange, they are certainly allergy free dogs, and they generally have great temperaments!

Curly Coats
Another good group of allergy free dogs to choose from are those with curly coats. Poodles, Bichon Frise and certain water dogs, like Irish Spaniels, all fall into this group.  Curly coated dogs do require regular grooming and brushing, so make sure you have the time to care for them, or find a good grooming parlor!

Terriers
Many of the terrier breeds, which often have short, single coats, or wiry hair, are good choices when looking for allergy free dogs. Some of your options would include Schnauzers or Kerry Blue Terriers.

Single Coated Dogs
Often, it’s the dog breeds with dense undercoats that cause the most trouble to dog allergy sufferers. So if you’re looking for allergy free dogs, trying to find a single coat breed might be a good place to start. Maltese and Chihuahua if you’re looking for a small dog as well as Weimeraners and other large breeds, all have smooth coats with no undercoat.

As you can see, there are choices for allergy free dogs out there. Popular breeds like Labradors, German Shepherds and Shar Peis are unfortunately not great for allergy sufferers. Also, it’s good to note that even within the so called allergy free dogs, there will be some that work better with a particular individual than others. It’s always a good idea to first introduce the person with the allergies to a particular breed, too test their reaction.

Once you’ve made a choice, remember to bath the dog regularly, and in the case of all but the hairless breeds, brush regularly, as a buildup of dander on even allergy free breeds may cause a reaction in a dog allergy sufferer.

German Shepherd Kennels Florida

What should I do with my 5 month old German Shepherd that keeps peeing in his kennel?

He drinks so much water that I have to stop him… I take him out almost every 2-3 hours… When I allow him to drink a lot of water it’s like a small pool in his kennel. And he’s soaked from laying in his own pee… I live in Florida and during the summer it gets really hot and I feel bad if I think I don’t give him enough water… And I’ve tried staying calm after I find his mess but I’m starting to become a little impatient… he won’t pee in the house when we have him in… It’s only in the kennel that he does this.. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know…

Generally dogs and puppies won’t go to the bathroom in their kennel or where they sleep if it is confined enough. Make sure that the kennel he is sleeping in is only a little bit taller than him and a little bit deeper. Just enough for him to turn completely around and lay comfortably. If this is already the case, I would recommend taking him to the vet. He could have a form of diabetes since he’s drinking so much and having bladder issues.
Hope everything is ok. Good Luck.

Puppies Need To Be Watched Closely To Prevent Poisoning

I have been caring for your pets for more than twenty years as a professional pet sitter and as an Animal Services Officer in Gainesville Florida. I have seen well intentioned people bring home a beautiful new puppy only to mourn his or her death from ingesting toxic plants or objects.

Puppies are very orally oriented. That means they like to mouth EVERYTHING including things that are not safe for them. Before you bring them home you should look around both your home and yard and remove as many hazards as possible including toxic plants, you can find a list of toxic plants here http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/plants/ Even after removing toxic plants you should not allow your puppy to chew on any plants. Also make sure any containers of chemicals or hazardous objects are removed or out of your puppy’s reach.Coco bark mulch has become the subject of concern recently, but you should not only keep your puppy from mouthing coco bark mulch, but all mulch and anything else that is not intended for a puppy. You need to be hyper-vigilant when bringing home your new family member. You absolutely must supervise them at all times when they are not crated or in a puppy-proof room. Even when your puppy is on a leash  they are going to try to mouth anything they can. Keep them on a short non-retractable leash that will not allow them to wander. You should be prepared if your puppy or any dog for that matter should put something in their mouth that may be harmful to them. DO NOT try to remove the object from their mouth immediately. First make an abrupt sound like AH AH! To distract them then offer them a treat which you have previously determined they like better than any other. This will let you trade the hazard for the treat. Be sure to pick up and remove the object after they drop it. You should also keep the ASPCA Poison Control Center telephone number 888-426-4435, your veterinarians phone number and your veterinary emergency clinic’s phone number immediately available, you can do this by putting the numbers on your refrigerator. Ask each of the clinics and the poison control center if they have their information on a magnet.

Other pet parents never thought it would happen to them.  Whether your puppy is in Gainesville Florida or somewhere else you can take steps to insure your puppies safety.
I encourage you to post comments that are relevant to the discussion.

German Shepherd Bathing

How much does it cost to get a German shepherd bathed and groomed?

My dog is for the most part an outdoor dog. As with most outdoor dogs he’s exposed to all kinds of funky odors that go largely unnoticed until you bring him indoors. During the warmer months I usually give him a bath once a month. But the weather is cold so I stopped giving him outdoor baths about two or three months ago. it’s been really cold during the night lately, so I’ve let him sleep in my room on a rug and he really stinks. I would give him a bath in my tub, but he’s too wild and my mother doesn’t want him in our bathroom.

I own a Husky Mix & in Texas his basic groom (bath, ear cleaning, nail trimming & brushing) was $40 and in Hawaii was only $15 more @ Petco! I was surprised because a local grooming place was going to charge me over $60!!

Six Important Tips To Maintain Your Long Hair German Shepherd!

Long Hair German Shepherds are one of the most attractive variants of the German Shepherd breed and surely, just like any proud and responsible dog owner, you would always work for the best to maintain that your dog is always healthy and well-groomed.

That’s why we’ve prepared a list of tips that would help you promote and maintain your Long Hair German Shepherd’s coat without much of a hassle!

Tip Number One: Nutrition plays a big role in maintaining your furry friend’s fur. Your Shepherds are strong carnivorous which means that the food they eat must be rich in protein, fat and in vitamins. Foods like Beef, Lamb and Chicken are perfect. And if you ever plan to create your own dog’s diet, make sure that your mix would be high in these.

Tip Number Two: Avoid Vegetables. Unlike humans, dogs’ stomachs are straight and not curved. Thus, this makes digesting vegetables hard for them. Stay clear of the vegetables and stick to the high protein regimen above.

Tip Number Three: Brush your dog’s hairs regularly. By brushing your dog’s hair, you contribute in distributing your dog’s natural oils. Aside from that, you help prevent matting of the fur and aid in removing dead skin cells.

Tip Number Five: Bathe your Dog. Obviously, bathing your dog contributes to maintaining its hygiene. But did you know that a dog should be bathed once or twice a month? German shepherd’s natural oils are there for a reason, that’s why your dogs shouldn’t be bathed more than twice per month. However, frequency of bathing varies depending on the nature of where your dog hangs out. Surely a dog that stays outside will require more baths than one that stays inside.

Tip Number Six: Do you See Dust? If you stroke your dog and see dust that means your dog is already due for its bath.

Keeping your Long Hair German Shepherd clean is really easy and with maintenance; you and your dog will reap the beauty of its clean and shiny coat.

German Shepherd Timber Wolf Mix

August 26th, 2007 admin No comments

german shepherd timber wolf mix
I have been hearing strange-breed Stories..?

Yeah. Someone told me that their cousin has a Toy chihuahua/German shepherd. Also.. Another person told me they had a female GSD who had been bred with a doxie, a chihuahua, and a corgi. They said the puppies came out looking like all the fathers rolled into one.. If there was any way possible that these mixes could happen, what would they look like? Another strange crazy breed mix- toy Chihuahua/ Timber wolf mix. Crazy stories, crazy mixes, please don’t post anything horrible like how they are dumb***es and junk.

The chihuahua x wolf crosses were made up in order to allow sellers of pure wolves to do so on the statement that they were wolf dog hybrids and not pure wolves. The percentage of chi is usually said to be around 2%. With AI it’s possible to mate a male chi to a female wolf, but no owner of a wolf or high percentage hybrid would waste her on a chi. They’d breed only to other wolves or wolfdogs.

In the Journal of Heredity I did see an adult litter of St. Bernard x Basset hounds. The male Basset was AI’d to the female St. Bernard. The adult offspring all had conformation and coats like the St. Bernard and the dwarf legs of the Basset. The males’ personals barely cleared the ground.

As for the puppies looking like conglomerates of all the males that mated with the female, not possible. While each puppy may have a different father, depending on which one fertilized that particular egg, each puppy has only one father, not multiples.

Dogs are so different in size, shape, and color that you can see some very unique combinations out there. And they can be surprisingly inventive when it comes to mismatched sizes mating. I once pulled a miniature Schnauzer off my female rough collie right before he penetrated. It was physically impossible with them both standing on level ground, but when she backed up to a stair step and he got two steps up from her, it was definitely possible!

would you ever own a dog like this?

i have had this puppy since i was five so she`s about ten now
she is an alaskan timber wolf , german shepherd mix
would you ever own a dog like this?
just curios lol

I have nothing against wolf hybrids. Actually can be great dogs but they need firm handlers. Since I’m a trainer I’m confident I could handle it. However, very few people should have dogs like this.
