Do you have a MUTT???? Is so how was s/he during training?

I’ve only ever bought from a breeder, and the German Shepherd I’m getting are being imported from Germany for thousand!!! But that’s to be expected with their history, and the work I need him for.

But as for my experience with mutts they seem to not be training. Just speaking of course about the ones my neighbours or friends have? I do understand that it could be them not training it also.

Just wondering anyone have good training experiences with mutts?

Thanks
It will be 6months old, so it will know its commands in Germany and I’ve already been training her with the dogs at this kennel so I’ll be ready for my two puppies <3 can't wait!
PS_ this is response to "livin life" lol

Its around 3grand but I got a good deal because the kennel owner has history with the kennel in Germany and he's buying under his name and then I'm buying it from him. So I have about 2grand!

only a thousand bucks huh? thats cheap considering its coming all the way from Germany..will it know English commands?
Any dog can go thru training, and train well, not all dogs will catch frizbees. or do agility, but all can be trained to be good dogs, mutts included..I dont believe in name brands(pure breed) except fot show dogs, otherwise its just snobbery.

The Importance of Training German Shepherds

Having just brought a German shepherd puppy home, there are a few things that you need to know about this special four legged friend of yours. These dogs are very unlike all other dogs that you might have come across

They are not only swifter and smarter than the other dogs, but also more feral than their counterparts. Which means that they are more close to their natural ancestors than the other dogs and require extensive training

German shepherd is an unusual breed that follows the alpha traditions of the wolves. The German shepherd breeders say that these dogs believe in the custom of the pack and work in agreement with the principle of the pack

For every pack, there is an alpha dog and a beta dog and the rest of the dogs follow their commands in that order of preference

In order to train your German shepherd puppy in a proper German shepherd way, you will have to claim the position of an alpha dog

This will result in the puppy obeying your command as well as provide an opportunity for you to build a better relationship with him

German shepherd puppies often try to claim the position of the alpha. Therefore, it is advisable to go about the tough way to train them and remind them of their position in the pack

Hence, it is favorable to use the carrot and stick method, which involves appreciating your puppy when he gets things right and also using the lease method to make sure it accepts your authority

This just indicates that you need to be cautious about your training methods and does not mean that you need to be harsh on your dog

During your German shepherd dog training period, it is important to ensure that your little pup gets treated as the beta dog

This is to say that, in your absence, if there are other dogs in the house, you have to make sure that the German shepherd gets to take care of them as the beta dog of the pack

Doing this will make him feel that he is an authoritative position and will also obey your command

Training your puppy right away is advisable as it becomes very difficult to train an adult German shepherd who keeps trying to defy the authority of the alpha of the pack by disobeying repeatedly

Breeding GSD’s(20 char…gr)?

I have a female White German Shepherd…She’s 2 12 years old. She’s a beautiful dog, with a wonderful temperament.
I had her screened and she has no health problems that could be passed to the pups.
. She’s AKC but no champion bloodlines and she hasn’t been in any shows.

I recently adopted a male GSD….he’s about 4, he’s GORGEOUS(white) and he’s AKC but, again, no special bloodlines or any showing. I’m considering having him screened.

They both have great temperaments. Should I consider breeding them or should I have them desexed??? They would be sold as pets, and desexed. Not for breeding or showing.

No lectures on dogs in shelters please. I am aware that there are plenty of mutts who need love in shelters. I am also aware that there are plenty of poeple who want a well bred AKC dog and don’t want to pay thousands of dollars.

I plead with you not to breed your dogs. First a white coat on a German Shepherd is considered a fault, something you do not want to breed into other dogs. I understand you may very well find very good homes for the puppies. You do sound like you do care very much, but what do you think the reason is for people mentioning shelters?

There are more dogs being bred on purpose than there are people willing to buy them, let alone all the dogs in shelters. It’s really not fair to the dogs in the shelters, which may I say 1 in 4 is a purebred, that good homes for them will be taken away because someone “just had” to breed their dogs.

Again, I plead with you, there are thousands of dogs put down every year because nobody wanted to take them in.

There is nothing wrong with breeding dogs, however dogs should not be bred just because they will make good pets, there are already thousands upon thousands of dogs that are pet quality in shelters.

yES I AM GETTING ANNOYING BUT PLEASE ANSWER THIS?

Yes I have asked questions about my pregnant German shepherd….This is my second litter (not hers) I had a litter of rescued shepherd mixed puppies…But this German shepherd is two years old and is 54-55 days pregnant…She has been having a green discharge we took her to the vet and vet did a test and there was no infection and all pups are healthy and so is she…She has been panting allot for the past few days but tonight as i was getting ready for bed I was scratching her stomach and feeling her babies then I noticed a thick milky discharge is this a sign of labor please I did come on here for answers not nagging about a pregnant dog she will be spayed after this litter…She is an agility dog and has won many awards AKC papered and OFA excellent and she has had her elbows checked sire is an AKC show champion OFA cert excellent…THANKS FOR YOUR NICE ANSWERS
Its 130 am vets closed until 8 am

What you saw was her releasing her mucus plug. It should be a thicker discharge of a clear to milky coloring. It can be seen for up to a week before actual labor begins sometimes only a few days!
Her body is getting ready for whelping but it doesn’t necessarily mean she will go into labor in the next few hours at all.

You will have to watch her for other signs too. It would be wise for you to start to take her temp. 2 times a day and when it drops to below 100 degrees then you should see pups with in 12 to 24 hours.
Just make sure she is not left alone and that you take her out on lead to potty from this point on.
Having a 60 day gestation is not unheard of at all. Anything before 60 days then I would worry about under developed pups.
Good luck!

5 Tips For Lead Training Your Dog

Every dog owner knows how hard it is to walk a dog pulling on a leash or simply refuse. Although basic training for all breeds of dog should include training run, large breeds, in particular, must learn as a puppy. There is nothing worse than trying to walk your dog for a husky or German shepherd night with them and lead the fight the whole way.

In this regard, here are five tips to help train your dog to fetch a little easier.

1. Start young. It is much easier to start puppy training, learning, not an old dog to pull on the leash. Although not impossible, it is best to start with a small dog that has done some bad habits. You can learn to drive a young dog and is happy to treat than the rest of his life, but the trick is not to wait too long.

Start your puppy with a collar, so the next step of the line and you will see that the whole process is much easier for you and your dog. This can be a method of forming the first puppy you are using.

2. Be nice. This is a time not too rough. If working with a puppy or dog, do not come with your dog’s obedience through intimidation. So it’s not important to use a choke collar on your dog while training for lead, to give a false idea of the tracks. Dog training should be done with care and respect your dog and you’ll see it more responsive.

3. Go slowly. There’s no need to leap into walking down the street with your dog. Training can be done slowly and it will be much smoother for it. For example, start with the collar only at first. Once the puppy is used to this, you can progress to attaching the lead. Try doing this while the puppy is being fed so he’ll associate it with something good. Then, once he’s used to having something attached to the collar, you can start picking it up. Don’t rush and you’ll be fine.

4. Nip bad habits in the bud. It is important not to train your dog going in the wrong direction. If your dog starts to pull the cord, make sure to end this little problem immediately. A firm “no” and left a bit of work normally when used constantly, but you will have much more success with the award of proper behavior. Which brings us to our next tip. . .

5. Praise and reward. People want to sell their dogs are no exception. Even a few words of praise go a long way to walk your dog to follow the behavior. The good thing about this kind of puppy training is that you’re there, you’re right! Until with praise or rewards are consistent, your dog will quickly learn the new behavior. . . In this case, walking on a leash.

There are several advantages of using trained with his dog on a leash and not pull. For one thing, then you can walk with the dog and his four-legged friend. It is also safe, because all kinds of dog obedience, you will learn that there is no need to talk about your dog always loose and run down the street on foot, is happy to care.

Bark Busters offers dog obedience training home of the relationship between you and your dog improve. Take into consideration when searching for puppy training in Toronto, do not pull the leash to bark Busters. http://www.secretsdogtraining.info

Why does my German Shepherd do this?

My shepherd is put in his Crate at 10 Pm every evening. But before he goes he always grabs something that belongs to me to take with him,Preferbly one of my caps or socks.

He’s gorgeous! I have a female gsd who liked doing the same thing. The others are right, it’s the comfort of your smell he is after. He is obviously very devoted to you. Is there some reason why he has to be crated at night? Once mine was house trained and stopped chewing, I got her a soft doggy bed and put it in my room, and that’s where she has slept ever since.

House Training A Puppy Leads Your German Shepherd To A Way of Life

Do you want to be successful in house training a puppy?  The 24-hours-a-day monitoring process cannot be completed until at least he is 6 months old.  He is growing and developing rapidly at this stage, so he can normally be a little input-output machine and definitely easier to train than an adult dog.  Housebreaking him indoors can be successful with some rules and methods contained in most eBooks available.

It is an important rule not to punish him if you don’t catch him doing it.  Remember to let him know and praise him when he does it right.  He is at the stage where he eats more food, burns up more energy and needs to eliminate constantly.  He can’t hold it long since he has not yet developed bowel and bladder control.

The first method of house training asks you to live with what most puppies do.  The entire floor of a small room or area is papered to encourage him to use it for going to the bathroom.  His bed, toys and food or water are placed there also.  Your puppy starts by walking around everywhere and anywhere, sniffing the floor.  Like most puppies, he will probably play with the papers, chew on them, and drag them around.  Without getting upset, just carry him over to the papers, clean up the mess, and lay down fresh papers.

A crate is the best training tool to begin the process.  Get the perfect-sized small wire mesh crate that’s large enough to be a bed.  He should find a small corner of it to relieve himself or else he would be forced to lay in the mess.  He never likes to soil his bed.

Take him to his favourite spot outside right before you put him in the crate.  Allow another trip outside when you first take him out.  Housebreaking crate time is overnight.

For short periods of time, keep him in the crate at first.  At regular intervals, get him to eliminate by taking him out to the yard.  Remember the rule to praise or reward him if he does it, or put him back into the crate if he doesn’t.  This works to establish a pattern as he learns to control his bladder and bowels.  Just clean up when there’s an accident and note the time.  You can get a better idea by keeping a toilet schedule. House training a puppy will turn a behavioral problem into a hygienic habits and way of life.
