german shepherd avatars
does anyone here have a malamute german shepherd cross?

i have one he is really weird looking people always comment on his coat. he is the dog in my avatar he looked a bit like a collie when he was a pup. i see his mother and father so i know he hasn’t got any collie in him. or maybe its a good few generations back but he looks like a german shepherd now but with a grey coat. his father had black patches on him (only 3) so that’s where my fella got the black patches from.

im very interested to know if anyone has a dog like mine or knows someone who has one

I seen one at the shelter. It was pure white, and kind of slender. the ears were pointed up unlike your puppy.

What do you think?

What do you all think of my new avatar picture? This one is thanks to Kerstone German Shepherds. She took nice pictures of my boy Kaiser in September.
Kaiser will be 6 in January. He has been my most favorite German Shepherd that I have ever had.

I agree with Shanna! Love the new picture (how handsome!) and love the copyright!

Trying to decide between the German Shepherd Dog and The Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

I can’t decide, please list the pro’s and con’s of each, which needs more exercise,

I will obedience/advanced obedience train it, do agility, some conformation, and I love going to the beach and playing fetch, so it would have to be trustworthy off-leash at the beach(I know this must be trained, but some breeds are more likely to run than others like collies and huskies, collies are known to stay with u and huskies are known to be escape artists) I have researched and researched and they both sound like the best for me, im asking because all the sites had different info, and the ppl i contacted(SBT breeders, and GSD breeders, and both breed clubs) said different stuff, so i need your opinion

They are both entirely different breeds of dogs so it will not be something anyone else can help you with — your needs and likes and dislikes aren’t known by anyone else. Regardless of which breed, if you are knowledgeable about the various health, temperament and structural issues and seek out a good, knowledgeable, responsible breeder, you will have a better chance. GSDs can be very difficult in the conformation ring as it is very competetive – much easier in the SBT ring but then it can be difficult in other aspects as it can be difficult to find competition to get points with. GSDs have heavy double coats that require a lot more in the way of grooming and dealing with blown coat. SBTs are terriers, which in and of itself is a much different type of dog to train than a herding/working breed is. Then you have to consider the aspect of breed specific legislations that often will include all ‘bull-type’ breeds but not GSDs and then there are more insidious types of discrimination that would keep you from getting homeowners insurance with either of these breeds or renting living space due to size restrictions. Any dog can be obedience trained but these dogs often require differing techniques. Any breed is likely to run if left off lead and untrained. No, collies and huskies are no more likely to run than GSDs or SBTs. Your research appears flawed on face.

LSI: Latent Semantic Indexing and Article Writing

Latent Semantic Indexing, otherwise known as LISI, is an integral part of Google’s search engine algorithm that determines not only the listing position of your web page in the Google search engine results pages, but also whether or not it will be listed at all.

Right off, let me first say that nobody can produce LSI-compliant content: there is no such thing, because LSI is a concept connected to the analysis of text strings in order to determine their true meaning. It is properly referred to as latent semantic analysis (LSA), although Google uses the term latent semantic indexing because it is being used to index your web pages.

However, you can use the general sense of the concept in respect of the way you write the content of your web pages, and your use of contextual relevance to the search term being used by Google users seeking specific information. In explaining how this is done, therefore, I do so with apologies to the purists of LSA who correctly claim that a web page cannot be LSI-compliant or that LSI can be used to improve your on-page SEO.

Let me explain the meaning of contextual relevance by giving you an example. It is a simple example, and perhaps contrived, but it does explain the concept, and also how you can apply it to improve the listing position of any web page you apply it to. We shall consider a Google user seeking information on ‘how to write’.

How to write what? Check up any keyword analysis tool you wish to use, and you will find that the keyword ‘how to write’ is a very popular one, and it is very easy to use it as the main keyword in a web page on writing. In fact a keyword used by you on your website is no more than a means of you informing search engines of the topic of your web page, and is hopefully the same as the search term being used by the search engine user.

However, the question is ‘how to write’ what? The visitor to your page migh be looking for help on how to write content for their web pages, magazine articles, articles for newwspapers or even how to write novels, and every one of these would need a different approach. The concept of latent semantic indexing involves examining text strings close to the keyword, and deciding the relevance of the keyword and rest of the text from that. Thus, ‘newspaper’, ‘novel’. ‘web page’, ’submission’ for example, can all be used in latent semantic indexing to index your page in the correct category, so that the pages presented in the SERPS give the search engine users the results relevant to their inquiry.

The real customer of a serach engine is the person using it to find information – to carry out a search. You are not Google’s customer, and neither are all those advertisers using Adwords, because without the person carrying out the search Google would not exist. Google is ensuring that its users are getting the best possble service through good search results by menas of the use of latent semantic indexing.

My website offers different examples of contextual relevance, such as how the keyword ‘the history of locks’ can one of three different things that could not be distinguished by keyword-stuffing. The same is true of the term ‘German Shepherd’ another commonly used example. Are you seeking information on dogs or how Germans look after their sheep? Is an Alsatian a dog or a person?

Google had initially been using the concept of semantic analysis (’semantic’ refers to the meaning of words) in their Adsense program, where it was used to determine the type of adverts to place on users’ web pages according to the topic of the page. However, people began making thousands from Adsense by automatically generating pages of meaningless text into which any keyword could be inserted and make sense to the reader, thus:

“Information on KW can be found all over the internet, KW being the subject of many online searches. There is a large number of websites providing information on KW, and an equally large number of people using KW as their keyword in their Google search.”

That’s just a brief example, but you could use any keyword you can think of as ‘KW’, and entire web pages would be generated by software designed simply to enter a keyword of your choice in place of KW. Many of these sites received top listings because the algorithms were predominantly keyword orientated, and endless repetition of a keyword would almost guarantee a high listing. I did it myself: I could generate 5,000 pages for Adsense from a list of 5,000 keywords just from one template into which every keyword could be inserted and still make grammatical sense. You don’t need many clicks to add up the Adsense income from that many pages.

Google stopped it all with LSI. They applied the concept of latent semantic indexing used in their Adsense program to their search engine algorithm, and overnight websites with no text related in context to the keyword were dropped. People’s income was decimated and their businesses destroyed – and probably rightly, although they hadn’t set the rules that had applied, just took advantage of them.

Thus, to be listed for ‘article writing’, you would have to make it clear what type of articles and what type of writing you were referring to. With the shepherd, you would have to mention sheep or Alsatians or use some means of making it clear what the topic of your content was. That’s LSI in action, and while most people are still unsure what latent semantic indexing really means, and use the term wrongly, if you write your content naturally you should be just fine.

german shepherd oversized
Anyone know a breeder who sells oversized German shepherds?

where can I find a breeder on the internet who sells oversized GSD’s? I heard people are not buying them because they are big because they were bred poorly. If no one buys the dogs, the breeder just throws them on the street. I want to give these dogs lives………………………….actually I just want a large GSD I never heard of this. Just tell me where to get a king German shepherd. I dont care if they were bred poorly.

Actually there are Shiloh German Shepherds. They are HUGE. Check Petfinder:

The Australian Shepherd Dog Breed Essential Information

When looking for which dog breed to choose for your family, there are always several issues to take into consideration. Jesse and Harley, who are brother and sister, are the first Australian shepherd dogs we’ve had in our family, and I must say, I am very impressed by this breed of dog.

When Harley was a puppy and had chewed her squeaky ball to a frazzle, I put it in the bathroom sink to temporarily get it out of sight before I could throw it away. I didn’t want any of the loosened rubber to get lodged down her throat. I heard a scrambling noise behind me and lo and behold, Harley had managed to scramble up the side of the bathroom cabinets and was joyfully standing in the sink, retrieving her ball!

Right then and there I knew, this is no ordinary breed of dog! We have no herd of sheep for them to corral, and we only have an oversized, fenced backyard for them to play and romp in, but lots of play at dog parks and long walks in the woods have been a necessity to keep these Aussies happy. Australian shepherds are fantastic dogs for agility training also. The fast-paced runs are perfect for their athleticism.

All in all, I’ve found them to be energetic, super smart, playful, good with children and one aspect that I really appreciate is that they are a breed that doesn’t roam. As far as training, they are so smart, that it doesn’t take long for them to catch on to what I am trying to help them understand. The slant I use for training is a gentle, positive approach. With repetition, they are quick to catch on.

For an example, if Jesse rolls in something nasty during our walks, or gets totally muddy playing in the small child’s boat we keep full of water in the summer, all I have to do is ask him to jump in the tub, and show him what I mean, and he knows to go straight into the house and jump into the bathtub for a quick wash. My previous dogs were a yellow lab and a German shepherd, and I’d never experienced a dog who could just jump in the tub so effortlessly as Jesse can.

In closing, what I’d like to stress to anyone considering this breed is that they need lots of exercise (not necessarily strenuous), interesting things to do, and to stay close to their family. They are happiest in continual contact with their ‘flock’ which includes their human family. They want to make sure everyone in the family gets along, too. Harley especially will emit a low growl if she thinks play is too rough (between other dogs or people). She is an expert at breaking up dogs who are too rambunctious with each other if she feels one of them is being bullied or picked on.

All in all, I would highly recommend this breed to the right family. They would not be suitable for a small apartment, but rather need space and an active family to let their personalities and their boundless energy shine through.

Standards Of The Noble German Shepherd Breed

The body that establishes standards of dog breeds in the United States is the American Kennel Club (AKC). The American Kennel Club decides what qualities make a dog a show quality German Shepherd. German Shepherds in dog shows are judged against these standards, and the dog that comes the closest to matching all the standards of the breed wins the dog show. German Shepherds that win certain prizes in American Kennel Club dog shows can earn the rank of American Kennel Club champion, a designation that appears on a dog’s pedigree.

The categories that make up the standard of the German Shepherd breed include: appearance, temperament, size and proportion, coat and color and gait, the way the dog moves. A German Shepherd who meets the appearance standard of the breed gives the impression of a strong animal, alert and full of life. A good German Shepherd looks substantial and muscular, with an expression of nobility and quality breeding. The standard of the German Shepherd breed calls for a confident personality, slow to make friends. German Shepherds are alert and eager, ready to be report for duty as guide dogs, guard dogs, police dogs, herding dogs or loyal family companions.

The standards require that German Shepherd males should be twenty four to twenty six inches tall at the shoulder; females should be twenty two to twenty four inches tall. The German Shepherd head is noble, strong, and in proportion to the body. Males should look masculine, and females should look feminine. The face includes dark eyes, moderately pointed ears and a long, strong muzzle. A dog with cropped or hanging ears will be disqualified from competition, as will a dog with a nose that is not predominantly black. The neck should be strong, muscular and relatively long, carrying the head high and forward. The body should be deep with long ribs, a firmly held abdomen and a high, bushy tail. The forequarters are well muscled, with short, compact feet. The upper thigh should run parallel to the shoulder blade. The hindquarters are broad, with dewclaws removed from the hind legs.

The standard for German Shepherds require a double coat, with a thick, short outer coat on the main part of the body and shorter coat on the head, legs, and paws. A slight wave may be acceptable to some judges, but silky, wooly and curly coats are faults that require disqualification from judging. The health of the dog shows in the coat, so a German Shepherd’s coat should be glossy and well groomed. The classic German Shepherd is a deep tan with black saddle and facial features. Variations in color are permissible, although a white dog must always be disqualified. The German Shepherd moves in a trademark trot, covering ground quickly and steadily. A good German Shepherd trots effortlessly, as gait faults nearly always result in disqualification.

These are the American Kennel Club standard for breeders and dog show judges. As the saying goes, your mileage may vary. German Shepherd dogs who fall short of these standards make loyal, loving companions, so don’t overlook dogs offered for adoption through German Shepherd rescue organizations when selecting a German Shepherd as a companion animal.

German Shepherd Doberman Mix

December 28th, 2008 admin No comments

german shepherd doberman mix
What are your experiences with Doberman/Shepherd Mixes?

We’ve had this “Shepherd” mix for 3 years and I always wanted to know what the other “ingredient ” was. I had a DNA test done and was shocked to find out that my dog is more Doberman than anything else. The other component they could find was Belgian Tervuren which looks like a long-haired German Shepherd.

I did some research on Dobermans and most of the information is very negative. I can see some of the traits in my dog who came to us from a shelter when he was a puppy. He is controlling (sometimes aggressive) with our other dog, very strong-willed and keeps trying to chase cars. He is also extremely loyal, likes people and would guard me with his life.

What are your experiences? What should I be prepared for? I would never knowingly adopt a Dobie, but I do love my dog. Please advise!

I have had Dobermans for more than half a century & never had one that was aggressive or chased cars. Very strong willed, yes Dobies are. As any breed, a Doberman is what people make them!!

Goldendoodles And Other Dog Facts

Goldendoodle and other dog facts

When it comes to Goldendoodles, they are a dog that is now the most loved, adored and also the most misunderstood canine of all. For instance, did you know that there are 701 pure breed dogs and that the Border collie, Poodle and Golden retriever are claimed to be the smartest of dogs? I do not know why just these three breeds were listed because I am sure there are other smart breeds of dogs out there and the person behind the poll definitly didn’t include the Goldendoodle! Fact 1: The Goldendoodle dog is highly intelligent.

Goldendoodle dogs also have a superior sense of hearing and smell, but of course when it comes to documented evidence, the bloodhound is so trustworthy that it is the only dog whose evidence is admissible even in court of law in the United States! There are alot of Goldendoodle as well as other dog facts are very interesting. For instance, it is claimed that the Great Dane is the tallest of all dogs, while the Chihuahua is the smallest dog of all. But are they really? As a breeder of Goldendoodles since 1999, I know for a fact that one Goldendoodle we created some years ago turned into a 150 pound “small pony” ! And while it is claimed that the Chihuahua is the smallest dog, we own a tcup sized LhasaPoo (a different type of hybrid dog) who weighs three pounds or less and I’ve heard of some tcup Yorkies as well as Tcup Poodles weighing even less!

Goldendoodle dogs are usually very attached to their families. Some are even heroically so. Goldendoodles can even take care of their invalid or handicapped family members on a daily basis, if properly trained. Over the years, we’ve had some of our past customers train their Goldendoodle dogs as therapy dogs or assist dogs. Many rescue organizations and policing organizations use Golden Retrievers as well as other types of dogs as a part of their regular team. Some Golden Retrievers are used as narcotic dogs. While it is doubtful that a Goldendoodle can be used as a guard dog, I see no reason why they could not be trained as hunters, draught animals, drug and explosive detectors, and even as a dog who seeks out weapons.

In the Middle Ages, dogs wore spiky light armors and ran into the battle grounds to attack mounted knights. The Rottweiler was one such breed used in medieval battles. The German Shepherd dog has been used in the field with every day soldiers for many centuries. There are many fun facts regarding all dog types, but the Goldendoodle dog has not been around long enough to have a lot of facts written about them. The Goldendoodle dog was first known as a “Goldendoodle” sometime around 1997. This hybrid was first created by the Australians who were looking for a low shedding, low dander assist dog for those who had allergies. Goldendoodles in Australia are used for other purposes and make wonderful family pets for children of all ages. There are only three coat types for the Goldendoodle dog.

1. Shaggy.

2. Curly.

3. Smooth.

The Goldendoodle does not have any rare colors and actually can have markings anywhere on its body, of any color. The Goldendoodle dog also can have various eye colors such as brown, blue, green or multi colors. Since beginning our Goldendoodles in 1999, we have seen some Goldendoodles born with one green eye and one blue eyes or one brown eye and one blue eye. In 2010 we hope to create Duetche Kurzharr Doodles which is a German Shorthaired Pointer mixed with a Goldendoodle. Since we do have a sire with blue eyes and our German Shorthaired Pointer has lovely amber colored eyes and multiple freckles, we hope that we will see offspring coming out with not just lovely light colored eyes, but with spots and freckles. The German Shorthaired Pointer is extremely intelligent! Our own girl, Merry-Belle, is fascinated with squeeky toys and carries them all over the house. She loves to have someone hold a ball up in the air and anxiously awaits it to be tossed in her direction so that she can jump high up in the air to catch it.

Before purchasing any type of dog, you should attempt to learn all the important facts that pertain to the breed you wish to own. Many families make the mistake and hurry up to get a dog because their children have been insisting on having one. Many parents buckle under pressure. But the problem is, people who purchase a Goldendoodle under the assumption of knowing the facts, find out that the dog isn’t for them. Sure enough, after the dog arrives home and the initial excitement has quieted down, the chore of actually taking care of the dog and molding its character begins. This is when the honeymoon is over and when most families realize that their Goldendoodle is really a bundle of work, like all dogs!

Children find out that the dog can’t just let itself out to use the bathroom and many will gripe about having to constantly take their new dog out for bathroom breaks. Most of the chores of caring for a Goldendoodle or any dog for that matter usually falls to the parents after a few days. A puppy is cuddly and sweet until it poops or pees on the floor or has to be supervised at all times or when it howls and howls for attention from its human family. The Goldendoodle dog has become the most popular of hybrids because other dogs with long and short hair, shed profusely. Many people who buy a Goldendoodle are told by their breeder that the dog doesn’t EVER shed and that they are “hypoallergenic”. Imagine the family’s horror when they realize that indeed their Goldendoodle dog sheds and not only does it shed, but it needs constant, regular care! This is just one example of how some doodle breeders try and use the “non shedding”, “Hypoallergenic” key words to bring in a customer. An inexperienced breeder can lead someone to buy a Goldendoodle dog for the wrong reasons. Since 1999, we as breeders have watched the Goldendoodle hybrid go through 10-15 different coat changes. We know for a fact that the Goldendoodle dog does indeed shed. BUT, they shed like no other dog we’ve ever seen.

The Goldendoodle will lose a strand or two of hairs and not gobs of hair or clumps of hair. Unless your Goldendoodle has a hormonal imbalance, his or her coat is not going to just completely fall out. Unlike a dog with a double coat, the Goldendoodle dog has a single coat and sheds very, very little. As the Goldendoodle dog changes from a puppy to an adult, there will be coat changes and you may see its coat do the most shedding during this “growing up” phase. When the Goldendoodle dog turns a year of age, their owners will see the least shedding.

Goldendoodle facts become very important if you really want to understand your doodle. Knowing as much about your doodle dog will also help you with training. Some dogs are quick to learn, while others need more time. Regardless of breed, dogs are individuals and training needs to be specifically geared toward the individual dog itself and not by breed type or generalization. Just as human have their own unique way of responding to learning things, dogs are the same way. They are individuals just like we humans are. Most dogs respond well to rewards and praise, while a few breeds need firm commands and rigorous discipline. Goldendoodles do not learn well with negative training. Positive reinforcement works very well for getting your Goldendoodle to comply and respond to training commands. Some dogs like the Dalmatian, need a lot of exercise and are not very suitable to small living quarters, while others like the Poodle have a lot of grooming requirements. Shaggy and curly coat Goldendoodles have a high grooming requirement. All Goldendoodles, regardless of size, would do well indoors so long as he or she is taken for daily walks. Goldendoodles enjoy being where ever their human family members are. They are happy to run beside you if you are jogging or on your bicycle and they are just as happy to sleep at your feet if you are sitting down watching television. Goldendoodle dogs are snugglers. They usually are not independant dogs. They can become lonely if left for long periods of time without human companionship. Depending upon coat type, some Goldendoodles can tend to be barkers or high drive. It has been our own experience that the shaggy coat and smooth coat Goldendoodle has the best temperaments of all three coat types. The curly coat Goldendoodle can tend to pick up some of the quirkly traits of the Poodle. Those experienced with the Golden Retriever will want to stick with either the shaggy coat or the smooth coat Goldendoodle. Those experienced with the Poodle will want to stick with the curly coat Goldendoodle.

Many people believe that certain dogs inherit certain disorders like hip dysplasia and cataract based on breed type. Many people believe that some breeds are prone to getting fat if they are not exercised regularly. Genetic ailments can happen to any type of dog regardless of their breed and all dogs can become fat and lazy if they are over-fed and are lacking in exercise. Dogs who are inbred or backbred or come from a genetic bottle neck (lacking in a wide genetic gene pool) will be at a higher risk for having genetic ailments. Age also plays a direct role with health issues in dogs. It is not known why some dogs die from health issues and others can go through their entire lives not ever having a health issue. Just as people die from various types of health issues or just simply pass away in their sleep, dogs are very similar in this way. Goldendoodles who come from a first generation breeding seem to be the hardiest of dogs. Goldendoodles can be a long lived dog under ideal circumstances just as the Poodle is the longest lived dog of all dogs.

One of the most important dog facts most overlooked by many is that every purebred has been originally created with a particular purpose in mind. While the Lhasa Apso was originally created as a palace guard dog, the Poodle was used for multiple purposes such as retrieving, swimming and just being a companion. The German Shorthaired Pointer makes a wonderful gun dog and many Rottweilers and German Shepherds or Doberman Pinschers make excellent guard dogs. Depending upon the history and lineage of your Goldendoodle, he or she may have a wonderful compilation of traits that would be suited for multiple tasks or would simply just make a wonderful house pet.

If you expect a breed of dog to completely forfeit its inherent tendencies and don a new mantle, you are asking for trouble. Never expect a Goldendoodle to guard you or your possessions and don’t be surprised if your Pit Bull bristles with anger and ultimately attacks a stranger. Some traits are deeply rooted and instilled in particular breed types. With our own Goldendoodles, we do know that their lineage holds multiple companion dogs, Utility dogs, show dogs, Master Hunters as well as having a deeply rooted love for playing in the water. Training your Goldendoodle or entering them into obedience classes can help you to bring some discipline to your doodle as well as even enhance their natural tendencies. Training does not replace them.

Anyone deciding to purchase a shaggy or curly coat Goldendoodle must also need to learn basics in grooming unless you are going to have someone else groom the doodle. Being knowledgeable about the Goldendoodle will help you become a better doodle owner. Goldendoodles can participate in fun competition dog trials, even fun dog shows. Their are other important dog facts which also include a need to know such information like neutering, spaying, vaccinating and de-worming your doodle at regular intervals. You will want to have your vet place your Goldendoodle on a vaccination and deworming schedule and let your vet get to know your dog. It is also very important to know that owning a Goldendoodle as with any other type of dog can be expensive. Know before you buy, that you can afford the upkeep that your doodle will require.

In a nutshell, knowing your doodle facts will help you, the new doodle owner, to truly appreciate your Goldendoodle’s uniqueness and will allow your doodle to happily spend its entire life with you.

how do I stop my german shepherd female from barking all night long at every little thing short of letting her?

i have a shepherd female that was condo raised and slept on a couch or in a indoor cage and now lives with me in the semi country with close neighbors. my wife has an allergy to the dogs hair and i must let her stay outside at night within the confines of a chain link fence around the house. a nice yard. she barks at every little thing esp now on a new moon where other prey and Pedidors
are out hunting at night time and feeding. i had to bring her in last night-not a good house pet-. how do i overcome a situation like this and still keep my dog?

the chain link fence is a good area for daytime. for nighttime keep her in a large indoor crate which you can keep in the garage or basement away from wifey. most dogs get a secure feeling from a crate, its their own personal private territory. and it will be able to relax and not be disturbed by the outside noises and stimulations.if needed. put a towel or blanket overtop of the crate to help calm the dog. also use the crate to feed your dog. this will give him added reason for working out well in the crate if he knows that is where he gets fed. best wishes and good luck.

Is The German Shepherd The Perfect Dog For You?

Originating from the Bavaria region, the German Shepherd was bred from local Shepherd dogs and originally contained a wire haired version as well. This dog was first registered in 1899 and has been a popular family pet and show dog ever since.

A large dog, weighing in at around 80 pounds, the German Shepherd is perhaps one of the most recognized of dog breeds. Typically having black and tan markings, the German shepherd has a large triangular head with wide upright years and almond shaped. His tale is bushy underneath and hangs halfway down his legs. while most people recognize the short coated variety, the German Shepherd actually comes in three types, the long-haired, the rough coated, and the long rough coated. Colors can be the typical black and tan, all-black, blue or white and liver. The white German Shepherd Is actually not a German shepherd breed but a separate breed called the American White Shepherd.

Of all the dog breeds, the German Shepard may be the hardest working. Due to his high intelligence and keen interest in learning he is often used for police work, to aid the blind, and search and rescue missions, and as guard dogs. As a family pet, he can be a loyal and loving friend. Most German shepherds get along well with children and other pets but you need to be sure that you pick your shepherd from a good breeder. this dog can be a bit protective of his family so you want to make sure he Is trained and socialized properly from the get-go.

The German Shepherd likes to be kept active and have a job to do. This means that you will want him to be an active part of your family and enjoyed outings with you. To keep him busy you might think about entering him and agility contests at which he will probably excel. As they are smart and eager to please, they usually quite easy to train.

Hip dysplasia can be a problem in these dogs but this is due mostly to bad breeding so you need to be sure that you take a good look at the parents of the shepherd and be sure that they guaranteed not to have hip or elbow problems. this dog breed can also be prone to skin problems such as eczema and flea allergies as well as I problems like keratitis, dwarfism and epilepsy.

The German Shepherd does not have any excessive grooming requirements although he is a heavy shedder and does need to be brushed every day.

Although the German Shepherd is rather inactive indoors and can make a good apartment dog, he does need to be exercised frequently so if you have him in an apartment you do need to take him for daily walks and preferably for a long romp in the park on weekends. They love a lot of activity and like to have something to do, so things like playing frisbee or agility training are perfect for this breed. A home with a big yard for your dog to play and is ideal.

Just like any other dog, a German shepherd needs to be seen regularly by a vet into a ball be recommended vaccinations and other medications as deemed necessary by the vet. With proper care, this breed can live to be around 13 years old.

Pedi Paws, have you used this on your dog?

I have a Alsatian Wolf Dog (GSD), and I was thinking of trying the Pedi Paws nail trimmer on him.
Does anyone here have any experience with this product?
Is it as good as the advertisement suggests?
I would like to try it, I hope to get some feedback first.

My German Shepherd that I had previously didn’t want anything to do with standard nail clippers. I would just take her in for a bath, flea dip, and a nail trim at the spa.

*And it’s pretty much his front nails, and dewclaws that need trimming*

my friend uses it . and said it was well worth the $25.00…

Discover How To Groom Your Gsd Dog!

A German shepherd dog (GSD dog) is a type of dog in which cleaning and grooming can be done in very simple steps that can be done in your house. It does not require surgical or other complex ways in order to be cleaned. Just apply regular brushings and occasional baths will do all the tricks.

Grooming is a very important factor when it comes to taking care of your GSD dog. Without much effort, this might lead to several skin rashes to your GSD and may lead to spot baldness.

There are several steps in order to take good care of your GSD dog. One of which is a constant brushing. GSD dogs sheds big clumps of furs almost in every year. Brushing helps lessen the piled up furs that clings onto your dog which can contribute to the suffocation of your dog’s skin to several kinds of skin rashes. Daily or weekly brushings can help minimize furs that will scatter around your house, instead of one time fur eradication.

In grooming, always start with the head. Whenever you feel like using sharp razor blades for grooming, be very careful as this may injure your pet. The use of shedding rakes is the best way to remove furs as this helps massage your dog’s skin and distribute oils for a healthier skin.

As to bathing your dog, always use a shampoo that is made specifically for dogs. This is to maintain the moisture to the skin and prevent drying. Bathing may only be done during flea seasons when it is necessary. Cover ears with cotton to prevent water from entering ear canals for ear infections prevention. When it comes to nails, don’t trim nails too short as it would lead to bleeding which can be very painful.

German shepherd playing to rough?

How can I teach my 9 month old 80 pound german shepherd to play more gently with our 3 1/2 month old 10 pound pointer mix puppy. They play fine together but when our german shepherd accidentally hurts the puppy the puppy gets mad at him and will spend the next half hour trying to bite the german shepherd anytime he gets near him. If our german shepherd were to eventually bite him back he could really hurt him.

We taught our lab the “gentle” command. We did it with treats initially. We would hold the treat up to his nose and say “gentle” – if he tried to snatch it out of our hands – we would pull quickly away and say, “uh, uh, Gentle!”. He wouldn’t get the treat until he gently put his mouth up to our hand to take the treat.

Whenever the lab started to play rough with our Shih-Tzu, we would say ‘gentle”. If he didn’t start being gentle, he was put in an immediate sit/stay until calm.

Puppy Dog Training for Obedience – How to Train your Dog Puppy Properly

Puppy dog training for obedience is a topic close to the heart of dog lovers. Now, getting a new puppy in the house can be as joyous as having a new baby at home. It brings much excitement to everyone especially the kids. But you need to make sure that buying the puppy is not a decision made in haste or at the spur of the moment. Dogs are living creatures and not just gifts that need no maintenance. Though a little puppy can bring so much laughter and happiness, they do require a great deal of training and when that happens, it is not a fun thing to do. Expect work if you want to train puppy dog well.

Dogs are like human beings. They too have temperament as well. Surprised? A puppy’s temperament depends on their birth place and his/her breed. So pay a bit of attention here about different breeds and their personalities in order to know how to train your dog puppy correctly. Rottweilers, bull dogs, boxers and German shepherds are guard dogs and they are born with natural instincts to love and protect their human companions. Gun dogs, pointer and Labradors are born and reared as hunting dogs. Because of their background, they are naturally energetic.

Bearded and border collies, on the other hand, being herding dogs are bred and reared on farmland, and are rather active and curious about their surroundings. They are known to love moving around and don’t sit still well. You have to be a little careful when you bring them to live in cities as they may be anxious and a bit scared and nervous since they are not used to the modern environment.

Training dog puppy needs time. But do not be unduly worried as it often takes a couple of weeks before it learns dog obedience. What you need is a little bit of patience and the amount of effort you put into it. One piece of good news is you do not have to spend hours to train dog puppies as it only takes a few minutes each day over a few times. That’s all it takes.

The very first task to train dog puppy is its obedience in simple commands like come, sit, heel, stay and fetch. These are easy to follow and most puppies are able to learn that quite fast. As they grow older and bigger, you can move on to include more advanced commands like rolling over, pawing and even play dead. One thing good about training dog puppies is they are very open towards learning. They are like blank pieces of paper ready to be written on. So training a puppy dog can be quite a fun experience especially when it starts responding to you.

Like kids, what they learn in their initial growing up months would be engrained in their memories. The puppy dog training for obedience would also shape their behaviors later. All it takes is a simple rule, stick with the few minutes per session routine and keep repeating as a reminder.

Puppy dog training for obedience is so important as untrained puppies can be rather mischievous. Since they are young, during their teething stage, they develop a natural chewing behavior. This can be quite damaging for your furniture as the holes they leave can be numerous in numbers. It is good to therefore start training dog puppies early so that they learn to differentiate what is wrong and what is right behavior.

Dog owners may resort to using dog training devices or products to aid puppy dog training but this is really not that essential. A little bit more of practicing and repeating the simple commands everyday would go a long way. The whole puppy dog training takes approximately a few months. Yes it may seem tough but the rewards would be great. At the end of the training, your puppy would grow up to be a loving and obedient dog that makes a great companion.

If you are keen to find out the specific commands to execute to properly teach and train your puppy, find out from my dog obedience website where you can learn some quick and effective dog obedience training techniques to train your puppy dog.
