I am getting a female german shepherd for show, agility competition, and search and rescue. Her call name is Blue, so I want it to include that. She is a beautiful light tan and black. She was born in May. Any suggestions welcome
They have given me full rights to chose my own kennel name. Their dogs come from show lines, but are only used for search work. So they don’t care what I call her. The mother is Cocao, the father Chase.
Dear King high and mighty, I have done my research. She is an awesome dog, the only one I would have chosen for what I want. I looked at countless shepherds and she is the best. She doesn’t have the blue coat, that’s just what they called her. Sure they aren’t in breeding for show, but their dogs are still show worthy. They breed their pups for search and rescue and K-9 units, and I’ve seen the agile work of her siblings and mother. I wanted a name suggestion, not a lecture. You’ll be seeing her on TV one day.

Blue Belle! Belle is French for pretty, and a bluebell is a beautiful blue flower.

The German Shepherd Dog Breed Breeding Information

Through breeding experiments, breeders have been able to create variations of the German Shepherd. Such experiments gave way to new kinds of German Shepherd dogs, one of which is the white German Shepherd. But in spite of these great results, there are some people who wish to stick to its roots by breeding old-style German Shepherds which are larger than your usual German Shepherd. These purists argue that though these experiments can produce German shepherds with special attributes, the qualities which gave the breed its reputation such as intelligence may disappear.

The different lines of German Shepherds

For those who do not know anything about German Shepherds, you may think that all of these dogs are one and the same. They are not. In fact, there are many lines of this breed and the old-style is just one of them. Each line was created for a specific purpose and these are:

- International working line. This line of German Shepherds is bred mainly to gain the working traits rather than the looks. Because of this, the appearance of these dogs may differ.

- International show line. This line was designed for breeders who are after the appearance of the dog rather than its working traits.

- North American show lines. This line was designed also more for the looks of the dog but with certain variations. These include sloped backs and sharper angulations. There are now debates on whether this line should be considered as a different breed of dog altogether. But breeders of this line argue that though there are great changes in the appearance of the dog, the working attributes have not been changed.

Appearance

Aside from the lines stated above, there is also another line which is called the old-style German Shepherd. The goal of the breeders of this line is simply to bring back the German Shepherd dogs to the way it was before. They aim to produce a line of dogs that looks and acts the same as its first ancestors. The old-style German Shepherd differs from the regular German Shepherd simply by its sheer size. A normal German Shepherd is around 24 to 26 inches tall. The old-style German Shepherds dwarf them by four more inches.

So an old-style German Shepherd is about 30 inches in height and would weigh around 124 lbs. or 54 kg. Though the features on the face are the same with regular German Shepherds, the old-style dogs have larger heads. The other physical attributes of this kind of breed include a straighter back, big bones, and no extreme angulations on the legs, giving it a noble and more poised look.

I want to get a German Shepherd puppy, has any one had experiences with one?

I just want to know if any one had one for a long time to tell me how they were. I am expecting to adopt one as a baby and train it. But when it gets older i want it to be a happy dog and play around. Do these dogs play aound and wag their tale when you come home or give them a treat. Tell me how your german shepherd was?

German Shepherds are great dogs, I have one and have been around them a lot.

They are very smart, playful, loyal, and owner-oriented(they want to make you happy). Very easy to train and I always get a happy, goofy greeting when I get home.

As a puppy I would HIGHLY suggest crate training, otherwise expect to lose lots of items left within reach in your home. You have to be willing to take it for a walk daily, and work on some training – they’re high intelligence and energy require daily stimulation or you’ll get a bored unstimulated dog that will find its own fun.

I would also recommend toys that are stronger, and also toys that require some thinking, like those balls that have a hole on one side where you stuff in food or treats and the dog rolls the ball around with their nose to get the food out.

Be sure you do a lot of research on the breed, they can be a handful and certainly aren’t for everyone, but I personally wouldn’t own anything else, they’re my favorite.

When to Put a Dog Down With Degenerative Myelopathy?

My German Shepherd dog (his name is Steeler), has Degenerative Myelopathy. If they have it it affects their walking and they drag their feet in the early onset. It can lead to full loss of the hind legs. I think it’s getting worse as he is dragging his paws and now a few of his back paw nails are grinding down and bleeding. With Degenerative Myelopathy they are in no pain but I have to think the nail hurts although he shows no real signs of pain.

If he is willing to walk, eat, spend time with you, and seem happy and not painful, then he wants to stick around with you for a while longer. Your puppy should be well socialized especially the first few months of its life, but preferably for the rest of its life. Take him with you wherever you go. Let him meet other dogs, people and especially children

German Shepherd Dogs are such clever dogs and easily trainable and so willing to please their owners that it is really sad when owners do not train their dogs.

There are so many disciplines in which their dogs can excel for example:

Obedience

Tracking

Protection work

Agility

Therapy work (depending on the temperament)

Which method should be used for training the German Shepherd Dog?

It is wrongly believed that because the GSD is such a strong dog, that you should use strong and harsh methods to train the dog. Actually it is just the opposite. GSD’s are sensitive dogs and so clever that they learn very fast when you use positive reinforcement methods with lost of treats and praise. Clicker training is ideal for training any dog but also the GSD. You still have to be very firm especially when it is a male dog going through his hormonal phases, but the key is consistency and patience. If properly trained your German Shepherd will be a joy and companion for many years.

Is there anyone in Arkansas who are selling German Shepherd puppies semi cheap?

Nothing over two hundred dollars… I’m buying a puppy for my little sister as a birthday gift because she just lost her dog and really wants a German Shepherd.

Most classified sections have them and sometimes (but not often), one can find a young GSD from a shelter. Most rescues sell their wards for around $150.00. But if you get one from the paper or a shelter (since ancestry is not known), the risk of getting a dog that costs a lot for veterinary bills over the years is much higher. They suffer from both AKC disease and popularity disease – been in the top ten in popularity (currently #3) for around 50 years – meaning a lot of litters are bred from average or worse dogs and AKC breeders stopped following the standard in the 60s to the point that they don’t even look like GSDs from Europe, etc (one can tell from a quick glance).

Why is it when I bring my German female shepherd in the house she starts to get skin irritation and her hair starts falling out bad. But when shes in the garage in her crate or outside, it all grows back and she’s fine. I live in Arkansas and the weather out here is relatively cold except for summer. When she’s indoor in summer its cold in the house. Is she allergic to the heat?

The vet will just tell you to give her a clairtin a day inside some cheese. That is what mine told me to do. I was told she has seasonal allergies- but she has them in all seasons but the clairin does help a lot.

I really want a german shepherd. Please someone help!?

ok, my family has like 4 dogs already, but none of them belong to me and they are nappy little poodles. I want to get a german shepherd because i think they are really beautiful, friendly, protective, and loyal. My parents say “No we aren’t getting anymore dogs.” I am planning to save up a lot of money and pay for the shepherd and the things needed. I even got a power point set up. But my parents aren’t the kind that say “Aww. Your so responsible! Of course we can get one more dog!” Instead, they are the kind of parents that say. “Pssh. So. I had a job when i was in 7th grade.” or ” I was already cleaning the house and the dishes when i was 10 years old.”

As much as you want a GSD, your parents have the final say. GSD are everything you decribed and more, but as a parent myself I understand. You may be able to save the money to buy one, but the vet bills, food and other care expenses are very high.

Continue to act responsible and save your money. Perhaps in a few years, your parents may change their minds, but know this – the more you badger them, the less likely they will believe you are responsible. Don’t mention it until your birthday rolls around, present your case in a mature manner. Stick to the facts, do your research on the breed, even do a spreadsheet of the cost of food, vet bills, etc.

How To Save Your Dog’s Life!

I have been caring for your pets for more than twenty years including working as an Animal Services Officer in Gainesville Florida. I have seen dozens of dogs needlessly hit by cars and attacked by other dogs whose owners never thought it would happen to them. I have seen the suffering that the dog’s experience and the heartbreak their owners go through. Whether your dog is in Gainesville Florida or somewhere else you can save your dog’s life by following these few simple steps:

1.NEVER let your dog outside without you attached to one end of a leash and your dog secured to the other end in a harness except in a fenced yard.

2. Inspect your fence regularly for any damage or gaps that would allow your dog to escape.

3. When taking your dog outside always use a harness and not a collar on your dog. your dog can slip out of a collar in a few seconds and be gone forever.

4. Always have your dog’s identification attached to their harness or collar at all times (yes even inside).

5. Use the collar only for the purpose of attaching your dog’s identification or as a fashion statement.

Remember that you can control your actions, but you can not control the actions of those who may harm your pet, like speeding cars, other dogs, coyotes and bears.
