I need help with my German shepherd / husky mix bread dog.?

I have German shephers/Husky mix bread dog,we name him (( Lucky )) he is 3 month now, he is cute but naughty dog, I really dont know how to deal with him and train him as which bread? he love kids he likes to play all the time with them.
I live in Kuwait and we are evry hot country so what shell I do in summer? should I put air conditioner for him in that time?
please giude me any one.

Train him as any other dog, there are different areas of training like hearding guarding ect but for an overall general well behaved dog all of the basic training is the only thing that is needed.
As for the air conditioner, keep plenty of room temp water out for him (usually not more then 70 F) If he seems to be over heating then i would suggest doing so. Your best bet is to discuss it with your vet before the very hot weather hits your area.
If you have any other questions feel free to email me and ill try and help.

an Australian shepherd,
a finnish spitz
a german shepherd
an eskimo dog
a chihuahua
or a viszla

I want a dog that doesnt drool
likes water
likes to play but doesnt bite that hard
doesnt need that much grooming
friendly to other dogs, cats, and strangers
is cute
medium sized or big but not to big
and smart

So if you have a good dog for me please tell me!

Thanks!

Australian shepherd-need more then just playing-Very active breed-4km daily walks and at least 2 walks & add to that loads of mental stimulation
Australian Shepherds are intelligent, delightful, and loyal. They are highly energetic and thrive on being given something to do. The Aussie has a high degree of intensity and a “no-quit” attitude. Their herding instinct may be problematic or annoying to their family, as this breed will often attempt to perform this task on everyone or anything that moves. They are reserved and cautious with strangers until the Aussie decides about them. They are confident and protective. Human companionship is crucial to this breed. They get along well with active, considerate older children. The Aussie is not typically aggressive to other dogs, Chasing and nipping at things that move: children, joggers, other animals, bikes, cars

finnish spitz
Active and friendly, lively and eager, faithful, brave but cautious. This breed is patient with children and tolerant of other household animals. They have a strong hunting instinct so they may chase smaller animals. This is an extremely intelligent breed which becomes very much a part of the family and is a dog which should be allowed to share with the family. However, this is not the breed for every family. Households where there is tension, harshness or loud bickering should not have a Finnish Spitz.Animal aggression. Some Finnish Spitz are dominant or aggressive toward other dogs of the same sex. Many have strong instincts to chase and seize cats and other fleeing creatures. This can make for conflict if you own a cat. It may be much worse than that if you own a pet rabbit or hamster!

german shepherd-need more then playing, add 5km daily walks, and at least 2 welks & loads of mental stimulation
A member of the herding group, the German Shepherd is fearless, bold, hard working, and alert. They are esteemed for their loyalty, deep devotion, and courage. This breed thrives on human interaction from their family and does not like to be left alone for extended periods of time. German Shepherds are exceptionally wary of strangers. They will most generally get along with other household pets they have been raised with. This breed will attempt to perform the task of herding on anything and everything that moves. The German Shepherd is not recommended for the novice, apathetic, or sedentary owner. Some German Shepherds are dominant or aggressive toward other dogs of the same sex. Some have strong instincts to chase and seize cats and other fleeing creatures. If anything goes wrong in the breeding, socializing, training, handling, or management of this breed, it is capable of seriously injuring or killing other animals.

American eskimo dog
Bred solely to be companions, the American Eskimo Dog thrives on being part of the family. This charming and playful breed is excellent with children, and loves to be lavished with attention. They are suspicious and wary of strangers and make good guardians of their family and home. They love to bark and will sound the alarm whenever they deem it necessary. This breed does not do well if left alone for extended periods of time or if they are isolated, as they will engage in destructive activities

chihuahua
The Chihuahua is deeply devoted and fiercely loyal. They typically become extremely attached to one or two people. They are bold, fearless, and highly protective of their masters. They thrive on inordinate amounts of attention. The Chihuahua is by nature gentle, loving, and sweet-tempered. They are wary of strangers and make excellent watchdogs. This breed is not well suited for children or other pets. However, they are sociable with their own kind. Chihuahuas are excellent companions in the right circumstances.

viszla
The Vizsla is friendly, lively, and affectionate with their family and those they know. They are alert and watchful. They will bark when they sense danger or visitors. They are very reserved with strangers. The Vizsla is very demonstrative, but has a tendency to be willful and distracted. They get along well with older children and in most cases other dogs. They will tolerate cats they are raised with. The Vizsla loves to chew on anything and everything and is not a calm and placid breed. They will become destructive if they are allowed to be bored-Is usually congenial with everyone, including other animals

If You Feel Stressed, Your Dog May Be Stressed Too

Stress is a normal part of our everyday lives. We’ve learned to recognize it and have found ways to reduce or deal with our stress. I think in today’s world, it is unlikely to eliminate stress completely. Even if we are content in our lives and relatively healthy and happy, we still have times when stress affects us. Have you ever thought that the family dog may be feeling stress too?

Most of us figure our dogs have it made. They are treated like one of the family, getting special treats, going on trips or vacations, sleeping on their own chair or even in your bed. They are fed and cared for and we clean up after them. Sounds like a great life right? The truth is, our four legged family  member  can suffer the affects of stress, but you might not realize it. So, how do you know if your dog suffers from stress and what would cause it?

Dogs are very sensitive  to their environment, including the mood of the household and its family members, so discord in the home would cause your dog to feel anxious and stressed. I know that Doberman Pinschers are extremely sensitive and a home that is constant chaos is not a good fit for a Doberman. This could be true for other breeds or breed mixes as well. German Shepherds and Great Danes have a tendency toward being more neurotic and anxious.

There are many other things that could cause a dog to feel stressed. Boredom, fear, changes in the family, and a move to a new home are just a few situations that could upset your dog. Dogs left home alone all day or crated for long periods can suffer stress and depression. Fear of other dogs, loud noises such as thunder or fireworks, as well as bringing a new pet or a new baby into the home could all be stressful for your canine family member. Other sources of stress are things as simple as hunger or not being able to relieve himself.

If your dog has started exhibiting behavior problems, the source may be stress and anxiety. It may show itself in things like, whining, howling, destructive chewing, weight loss, or skin and coat problems. Panting, drooling, digging, and trembling are also signs of stress.

There are things you can do to help your pooch if he or she is feeling stressed. Try to keep surroundings calm. Give your pet some extra attention. Human touch lowers heart rate and blood pressure in dogs. Make sure he has appropriate toys to relieve boredom through play or chewing. One of the best, most important stress relievers is exercise. Spend time playing outside or going  for a  walk or a run.  Make sure your dog has a den or a quiet place he can go where he feels safe and relaxed. My Doberman boy, Thunder has a corner behind a table where he likes to go to for time out. Be extra patient, remember, your pup can’t help how he or she feels.  If these strategies aren’t enough, consult with your veterinarian.  There are medications available to help.

German Shepherd Breeding Cycle

german shepherd breeding cycle
I need help with breeding my dogs!!!?

okay before i get a lecture….i have an akc registered german shepherd, the stud is also registerd, they have been cleared and certified by the OFA, basically i have covered all the basics.
i know everything about what could happen to the female.
so my realy question is this. I have transferred my female to another location as we have other males and the stud dog was brought to her, he tried to mount but she nips at him, she is in her 11th day of her cycle, should i be worried? I have recently tried holding her as my breeder recommended, but she will still growl and he will back off. Is it to soon to worry, i keep telling myself instincts will kick in and do the job. Does it matter that this is her first time as well as his? They are just kind of fumbling……..

Brittany, if you’d like some advice from some friendlier, more experienced people, e-mail me off list and I’ll put you in touch with some who have been breeding GSD for 20-15+ years and will gladly answer any questions you have. I can also recommend some friendly yahoo groups if you’re interested. They’re closely monitored so you’ll need to post an introduction about yourself and why you’d like to join or you’ll be denied. These groups are excellent for learning basic genetics such as colors/patterns as well as the more complicated things like EPI or Mega E. You can e-mail me at stary_eyed_angel@yahoo.com.

As to your question, it’s either too soon or too early. There isn’t a set date for when a dog will be receptive. I had one that was receptive days 5-7 and currently have one that will have nothing to do with a male until day 20-22. They’re all individuals when it comes to the days they’ll be receptive. There’s also a chance that she just honestly doesn’t like the male. Some females can be quite picky about who’ll they’ll breed to. If you have a second male that is also health tested and compliments her structure, temperment, and drive, I recommend trying her with him. She may like him better and behave better. I don’t recommend holding her or forcing her. Some females become quite aggressive towards males after having that done and there is also a very good chance you’ll be bitten. Not something you want from a hormone crazed dog. She could also seriously injur or even kill the stud if you press the issue when she’s not in the mood. Also keep in mind that she is inexperienced. It sounds as if this is really stressing her so my honest opinion is that you wait until her next cycle when she is more mature mentally. They all mature mentally at different rates and she may not be ready yet and is telling the stud that in the only way she knows how. Good luck with your girl and let me know if you’re interested in those breeders/groups.

Im getting a female German Shepherd Dog.?

Tell me wat to get before she comes home. And any tips. Shed probably be used as a breeding dog. can some please the cycles to me.

Why are you asking this again?

You know NOTHING about breeding. Therefore, you should not breed your dog. There’s a lot more to breeding than sticking two dogs together and waiting for puppies. Reputable breeders study for YEARS before they begin to breed.

If you want to breed GSDs, start by attending shows and finding a breeding mentor. If you’re still interested after years of studying the breed, learning how to breed properly, obtaining a dog with champion lines, showing said dog, getting that dog it’s CH title and all it’s health tests, and your mentor feels you are ready, then you can consider breeding.

Husky German Shepherd Mix Dogs

What can you tell me about a German Shepherd-Husky mix?

I am going to be getting a puppy whose mom is 100% Husky and the dad is believed to be a Husky-German Shepherd mix. Now I have read up on both breeds and I have had both close friends and family who have had both breeds. I am not sure what to expect though from the mix. If anyone can give me some advice that would be nice. I know a lot about dogs and I have read a lot, but hearing from lots of different types of people with different knowledge covers all over the knowledge spectrum.

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for knowing how to spell ShepHERD.

Well, it will exhibit mainly Husky characteristics, so it will shed like crazy, be hard-headed, independent, and be crazy with pent up energy (if not worked and exercised daily).

I hope you are not paying any money other than maybe how much the shots and vet checkup cost.

Here’s what my Husky/German Shepherd mix looks like, though she is more GSD.

My Dog Can Talk, the Story of Charlie, the Talking Dog

(Have you ever known anyone who thought his or her dog could talk?)

My phone rang and awakened me from a really good dream.  Unfortunately, it dissolved with the mists and was gone (the dream, not the phone).  It was forever lost in the ether, like the really good ideas you get when you are going to sleep.  You promise yourself you’ll remember them in the morning, but you never do.  Like that.

It was my brother John, my one and only brother, my boon companion, my fishing buddy, my lifelong friend.

“What the heck are you doing calling me at this hour?” I angrily demanded.  “And on a Saturday to boot!”

“I have something amazing to show you,” he said.

“It can’t wait until the sun is up?  It’s not like it’s fishing season, John.  Unless it’s fishing season there’s no reason on earth to get up this early on a Saturday morning.”

“Just get over here as quick as you can.  This is an emergency,” he said and hung up before I could get more information.

Twenty minutes later, I walked into his kitchen and was greeted by Georgia, his longsuffering wife.  She stood in the kitchen in her bathrobe, with a look of long suffering on her face.  She handed me a steaming cup of coffee and retreated toward the living room.  “Just remember,” she said over her shoulder, “I had nothing to do with this.”

John was seated at the table, his dog Charlie sitting in a chair beside him.  I guess at this point I should give a little more information about John.  He loved dogs and they loved him.  He seemed to be able to communicate with canines just using telepathy.  He could get dogs to do incredible things and seemed to be on their wavelength.  His dogs always seemed to be smarter than other dogs.  Charlie was a good example.  Charlie was a Husky, German Shepherd mix whom John had rescued from the shelter.

Charlie sat at the table and looked over my brother’s shoulder while he read the paper.  In fact, whenever we sat at the kitchen table, Charlie sat in a chair just like a human, with an intelligent look on his face, and seemed to follow the conversation.  He always looked at the speaker and seemed engrossed in the conversation, hanging on every word.  I suspected that he wasn’t as smart as he appeared, but John said he was smarter than he looked and questioned my intelligence.

The first sip of coffee hit my brain and the steam seemed to revive me a little, too.

“Okay, what’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing is wrong,” John said.

“You said it was an emergency,” I said.

“It is, in a way.  I need a witness,” he said.

“Who is suing you?”

“No one is suing me, Bill.  Why do you assume that someone is suing me?” he asked, testily.

“You just said you need a witness,” I said.  “You said it was an emergency.  Why else would you need a witness?”

He looked at Charlie and Charlie looked back at him in that knowing way.  Charlie raised his eyebrows, well what passes for eyebrows on a dog.  Charlie smiled.  Did I mention Charlie could smile?  He did.

“You know,” I said.  “It’s bad enough that you dragged me out of bed at this hour by telling me there was an emergency, when there obviously isn’t, but if you and that dog are going to sit there having your private little joke at my expense, I’m leaving.”

“He’s always been like this in the morning,” John said to Charlie.  They exchanged more knowing looks.

“You should feel honored that you’re the first person we chose to share this with,” John said to me.

“What is it you want to share?” I asked.

John’s face lit up like the kid who just found the pony under the Christmas tree.  “Are you ready for this!” he said and paused for dramatic effect.

I waited.

“Charlie can talk!”  He waited, watching my face for a reaction.

“I told you,” Georgia called from the living room.

“Charlie can talk?” I asked incredulously.

“Yup.”  John grinned at Charlie and then me.  Charlie grinned back.

I immediately thought of the classic cartoon about the guy who finds the frog that can sing and dance, only it won’t sing and dance when anyone is around.  It’s one of my favorite cartoons.

“But he only does it when no one is around?” I asked suspiciously.

“No.  He’ll talk in front of almost anyone,” John said.

I drained my coffee cup and studied Charlie.  He was a nice looking dog and a friendly dog.  I liked Charlie most of the time, except when he got that smug look on his face once in a while.  In our family, dogs are considered family members, but this was stretching it.  Charlie didn’t have a coffee cup to drain.  He just sat and studied me.

“Well, why didn’t you have Charlie call me with the good news this morning?” I asked and didn’t try to hide my sarcasm.

“He hasn’t learned how to use the phone yet,” John said.

“Okay, John, and Charlie,” I said,  “Let’s hear it, speak boy.”

First Charlie looked at me and then he looked at John.

John said, “He’s a little shy and needs a little help to get going sometimes.  It’s better if I ask him questions.”

“Okay, sure, why not?” I said.  I got up and refilled my coffee cup.  That gave me an idea.  Uncle Stan sometimes came by in the morning and he and John had Irish coffee together.  Sometimes they had lots of Irish coffee together.  I didn’t see a whiskey bottle in sight, but you never know.

“Has Uncle Stan been here?” I asked.  “Have you guys been hitting the Irish coffee again?”

“Don’t be ridiculous.  Have a seat and watch this,” John said.

When I was resettled in my seat, John said, “Okay Charlie, how old are you?”

Charlie said, “Er-roo-roo.”  Then he smiled and panted.

“See,” John said and beamed at Charlie like a parent who just watched his seven year old play the Nutcracker Suite on the piano.

“What did he say?” I asked.

“He said five and a half, Bill,” John said, disappointment creeping into his voice.

“Sorry, I missed it.  It sounded like he said er-roo-roo, to me,” I said.

John sighed.  “Okay, Charlie, tell Bill who is president of the United States.”

Charlie said, “Er-roo-roo.”  Then he looked at me and I swear he winked.

“See?” John said.

“Still sounds like er-roo-roo to me,” I said.

“Gee, Bill, will you listen for heaven’s sake!” John said.  “I’m sorry,” he said to Charlie and rolled his eyes.  “Okay boy, what’s five plus five?”

“Er-roo.”

“He never was too good at math,” John explained to me.  “No,” he said to Charlie, “It’s ten, but that was close.”

“John,” I said.  “Everything he says sounds like er-roo-roo.”

“Well, Bill, he’s part German Shepherd.  What do you expect?”

“Eh?” I asked, failing to comprehend.

“He has a little accent,” John explained.

“Accent?”

“German,” John said.  “He has a little German accent.”

“John, why would a dog born and raised in the United States have a German accent?” I asked.

“Maybe he picked it up from his parents,” John said and shrugged.

“Well greyhounds usually say roo roo,” I said.  “He sounds more like a greyhound to me.”

Once again, John grinned proudly.  He said, “Well, I never thought of that.  You know what?  I think you’re right, he’s bi-lingual, too!”

“You really believe your dog can talk, don’t you, John?” I asked.

“What do you mean, I believe it?  Of course I believe it, you heard it yourself,” he said.

“I heard your dog making dog sounds,” I said.

“You should hear him do imitations,” John said.  “Show him, Charlie.”

Charlie said, “Er-roo-roo-roo-er.”

“Well that was certainly different,” I said sarcastically.  “Who was that, John Wayne?”

“Very funny,” John said and chuckled.  “It was the poodle next door.  You can’t understand him because you don’t want to believe a dog can talk and might be as smart as you,” he said in exasperation.

Charlie said, “Er-roo-roo.”

“You’re right, I’m sorry, Charlie,” John said.

“What did he say?” I asked suspiciously.

“Never mind, Bill,” John said.

“Did he just say he was smarter than me?” I demanded.  “I didn’t like the tone of his voice.”

“It doesn’t matter.  I’m sure he didn’t mean it, Bill, he’s just getting frustrated, that’s all.  But this proves one thing doesn’t it?”  John said.

“What’s that?” I asked.

“You understood him that time, didn’t you?”

“Call me when fishing season starts,” I said and headed for the door.

Charlie said, “Er-roo-roo.”

“Same to you, Charlie,” I said and left.

Can a German Shepherd be an outdoor dog?

There’s a chance I could be getting a 3 year old German shepherd soon. He would have to stay outside most of the time though because my grandmother hates dogs. I know some people are totally against keeping dogs outside, but I’m not looking to be reprimanded here. I would take very good care of the dog, I assure you. I’m just wondering if German shepherds are able to handle the outdoors and the changes in weather (I live in Indiana so we have true seasons).

well if he’s going to be an outdoor dog, consider building him a shelter/dog house big enough to lie down, stretch, stand, and sit in, so he can keep dry and warm of course adding a bed or some bedding to keep comfrotable… and probably build a run or a kennel sort of thing so he’s not wandering all over the yard at night.
and yes a German Shepherd can be an outdoor dog.

add: most dogs can live in the outdoors, not all dogs are suited for the outdoor life, although since dogs are pack animals, they prefer to have at least one other companion, that is why people are against outdoor dogs, not forcing you but maybe getting him a dog buddy, dogs aren’t like cats, they don’t like to be alone most of the time, they thrive for companionship, and look for a leader, if he lives outdoors, he might lack people socialization and dog socialization, just make sure you introduce the dog to strangers and dogs so he’s not agressive towards them or aynthing..

good luck

German shepherd please?

OK this may be a bit hard to find but I will be so thankful for anyone who can find this! Okay I need a German Shepherd that’s:
Potty trained
Not a puppy
good with kids
good with other animals(such as cats)
partially trained(doesn’t have to be but would help)
Oh and it has to be around the Houston Texas area

Thank you soo much to anyone who finds this!!!

Oh and one more thing not too pricey it doesnt have to be a purebred

Have you tried your local shelter or rescue?
Many of the dogs they have are housebroken, good with children/pets, go through at *least* basic training [depends on how long they've been there], come with a vet check and testing for HW, spayed/neutered, and sometimes either a microchip, or a discount on one.

Can dogs sense when you are in danger?

The other day, I took my dog to the park and was playing Frisbee. I noticed a boy wearing a red shirt and blue pants kinda watching us. He looked to be about 10-15 years old. Gracie (my dog) also noticed him when he started whistling. It looked like he wanted to pet Gracie. He walked around a little and Gracie started barking and growling. She started out with a half bark and let out a series of howls. She made the howls like a hound dog or a beagle. Gracie is a black lab and mixed with ether a border collie or a german shepherd. She’s always been a people lover. I took her a little ways away and than began to play frisbee again. The boy went on the playground and was just standing and Gracie went crazy. She did the same thing only longer. I than left the park and told my parents what had happened. They told me maybe Gracie thought he was odd, out of place, all that kinda stuff.I was wondering if Gracie some how felt that she or I was in danger.

Science hasn’t tapped into all of dogs’ special senses yet. Some dogs can even tell before an epileptic is going to have a seziure. No one is exactly sure how much human emotion dogs can truly sense.
