What are some training suggestions for German Shepherd?

When it comes to training puppies, there are set standards that will work. Listed here are some of them:

Be consistent.  Use the same order for an action each time.  It is not good to modify the command word.  Changing the command will only confuse your dog.

Be Consistent in Rewards and Treats.  If you’ve given your puppy a delicacy for something good he has done, do it again the next time.  Don’t just change your patterns like you are confusing your pet.

Keep training stages short.  Young puppies have short attention spans, like kids.  Spend ten minutes to fifteen minutes maximum for every training gathering.  Be certain that your pet enjoys his training time and does not find it too boring.

Never train when you are annoyed or disappointed.  Your puppy can sense your irritability and he won’t cooperate with you when your mood is bad. It will affect your practicing, too.

Be upbeat.  When you’re cheerful, a dog will learn more.  Use a happy voice for commands.

Keep training regularly.  Your dog may forget the things he learned if training is not regular.  It’s not the dog’s fault.  Incorporate training into your daily routine.

German Shepherds have a number of special characteristics that you can employ to make your training go well.

Many German Shepherds are food-motivated.  Reward your dog with goodies while you’re training.

Some German Shepherds are not as in love with food as others.  Use something that makes him happy as an alternative to food.  For some pet dogs it’s playing with a special toy as a reward, or belly rubs, or it could be playing with a pair of your socks.  Bring his much loved things with you when you go practicing.  This item will make training go easier.

Exercise is important.  These large active pet dogs need plenty of exercise. The more you can make your training like fun and games, the more they will enjoy it.

Take the edge off.  If your German Shepherd is too wound up and thrilled to pay attention to training, take him for a walk or jog before you start your training so he can focus.

Expect him to be perfect.  German Shepherds can deliver if it’s perfection you want.  They can not only learn fundamental obedience instructions, but they are fully capable of performing them to perfection.  These dogs can learn the difference between performing a command sloppily and perfectly.  Demand perfection from your pet and he will give it to you.

Choose a good training venue.  German Shepherds can have a solid prey drive so if you train in an open area where cats, squirrels, or other small animals may wander by, your pet may be distracted or even bounce off after the animal.  This is true through the early stages of training.

Training German Shepherds  should not be hard if you know what you are doing.  German Shepherds can excel at inherent obedience, or anything you want to teach them.  Just be patient.  Have fun training!!
