What can I do about my hunting puppy?
My 7 month old husky/boxer/german shepherd mix is a hunter. He has killed musk rats, squirells, toads, you name it and he will chase it. I would be fine with this except that he doesn’t listen to me when he is in hunting mood and will occationally eat what he catches.
He has been to training and will continue, but he is very stubborn and when I tell him to drop it or leave it (the dead animal) he gives me a look and then runs off with it.
We do not keep him on a leash when he is in our back yard because he needs the exercise and he will stay with us untill he sees an animal that he wants to eat. (our backyard is huge and far away from the street)
I also have three cats that I know he won’t hurt (they get along ok inside), but wants to play with and will chase up a tree if he sees them outside.
I know it’s inhis blood to hunt, but any suggestions will be helpful
Your dog has a lot of prey drive. It sounds like you are frustrated. I highly recommend you stick with Training, if it is not helping, find a new trainer. For now I would recommend new toys, rotate the toys so he does not get bored. LOTS of chew toys, such as kongs stuffed with treats. Perhaps a spring pole and flirt pole too……If you are unsure what those are google them. He has a lot of energy and you need to work that off. GOOD LUCK!
I would like to know if my dogs will get along?
Would it be a good mix to put a Rottweiler, Boxer, German Shepherd, and a Dogo Argentino together? I have a Rottweiler German Shepherd and a Boxer already I wantedd to know if would be alright to get the Dogo Argetnino puppy? 1 is female the others are male?
What are the dogs that you have like? This is more a personality question than a breed sort of question, so it’s not really something we can help with very much. Have you met the pup?
But I would think that if you’ve got three of them already they are obviously open to other dogs, so that is a plus for you!
