German Shepherd Attack Video
german shepherd attack video
what’s the thing sheep dog trainers always hold in their hands and why is my gsd becoming more aggressive?
i saw a video of a german shepherd shepherding and the trainer was holding something in his hand that the gsd was following around the sheep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMxxNaSfD-o&feature=related is the link to the vid. and my 5 month gsd is becoming more aggressive towards goats. first she started shepherding them. then yesterday she separated a baby goat from the herd and attacked it but we were able to stop her! earlier all she did was shepherd them like she’s supposed to.
That is a stock sorting stick that trainers use as an extension of their arm to provide a bit of extra pressure to push the dog out and off the livestock. They may also use other tools like a stock paddle (a plastic paddle with bb’s inside) a lunge whip (never hitting the dog) a long stick with a bag or flag tied to the end, all with the goal of teaching the dog to wear back and forth and to rate the stock and only come in as close as necessary to move them at a calm, steady pace.
Your pup’s enthusiasm and prey drive have been ignited and that is normal in the early stages of stock training. Your job and that of your trainer is to teach her to stop seeing individual sheep and see the group and that she has no ownership of them, you do.
It takes a good year of weekly training to get a dog really ready for reliable stock work.
