Large German Shepherd/Lab Mix Puppy Is Scared To Death Of Running Water/Baths! Please Help!!?

Our 5-month-old large German Shepherd/Lab Mix girl is deathly afraid of running water in the bath tub. After having to take her to the animal hospital and vet for check-ups it turns out she has bladder issues. Due to her construction “down there” she is very prone to UTI’s and even though we’ve given her antibiotics and on special dog food for the crystals that have formed…we were told to wash her down there once every day with antibacterial soap and to dry her off thoroughly. Problem is, she is terrified and it takes two of us to hold her down in the bath tub. I tried giving her one by myself today and it was a disaster! She is fine when I turn it off when I’m scrubbing her but when it goes back on, she freaks. Any ideas to get her to calm down?? Please help, thank you in advance!

I have this problem with my German Shepherd too. She weighs pretty much the same as me and HATED baths. What I do now is fill the tub before she gets in there, dump her in, make her sit and scrub her, she is fine for this. I use a cup to soak her and rinse her off so she doesn’t have to deal with the running water.

I know this isn’t fixing the problem exactly, but it worked for me. As she got more used to this I can turn the faucet on to fill the cup, and eventually she just got more comfortable with the tub and the sound of water.

Before I knew it was the running water and I had to give her a bath by myself I tied her leash so she couldn’t walk around but couldn’t leave the tub are. Now she can just hop in the tub, no leash or holding down, and lets me scrub:) I also play country music as it helps her relax.
