German Shepherd jumping is not a very common problem among owners of this type. This is because this is one breed that is not really known for jumping.

However, if you find your German Shepherd jumps at you each and every time you come home from work, this is an indication that your dog is very happy to see you and is leaping up and down for joy, literally.

Often times, dogs of all types including German Shepherds jump up and down as an expression of pure happiness since they become filled with joy seeing that you have returned home. Seldom, German Shepherd Jumping occurs because your pet has decided to exert dominance over you.

Being animals that have conventionally been a herder in packs that involve social rank and hierarchies, your pet maybe trying to be an alpha male in your household.

More often, German Shepherd jumping is a display of affection, joy and happiness that you have arrived and is not something you need to deal with.

On the other hand, if your dog jumps each time you come home from work for long periods of time, this can be very irritating and embarrassing especially if your boss has decided to come and have dinner at your house.

In order to control your German Shepherd jumping, you will need to ignore your pet. Every time your dog has acted to jump and down for joy, turn your back and pretend not to see him or her. Only when your pet stops jumping should you acknowledge him or her by patting your pet on the head and showing love and affection.

Just after about one week or two of doing this, your intelligent shepherd will get the message that German Shepherd jumping is not acceptable and being still and calmly sitting on the ground is the more approriete behavior.

Pet owners of overly-friendly German Shepherds might have dogs that jump up and down each time someone else rings the doorbell and comes over for a visit. This can be very embarrassing and awkward to both the dog owner and the visitor. Visitors that have children will also tend to be frightened of such a scene.

Often, visitors will try to ‘knee’ the dog in order for him to stop jumping up. This is not advisable since by ‘kneeing’ the dog, you are giving him the thought he or she craves, thus not knowingly encouraging the act of jumping.

What you need to do when your pet jumps extremely at all your guests is to teach him to ’stay’ with a leash. Ask your friend to ring the doorbell and when your pet begins to try and jump, hold his leash firmly and look at him or her while simultaneously saying a firm ’stay!’

To conclude, properly training your German Shepherd to ’stay’ and rewarding him or her for good behavior will result in a very well-trained, behaved dog that is no longer an embarrassment to you and a nuisance to your friends.

german shepherd/golden retriever diet?!?!?!?

i was wondering if any of you know any good healthy recipies or a dog recipy book that is for large breed dogs that i can make at home for my 4 dogs. i have a german shepherd(2 years),golden retriever(1 1/2) and their pups (4 mons) and i have come to a point were i don’t want to give them dog food all the time. so any information that you have on this subject would be great!!thanks!!!

I have just the thing!

My dog LOVES this little recipe, and let me tell you, she is very picky. It’s also very healthy for diet habits. My dog managed to get to a healthy weight and maintained it while on this diet, and she still is.

Here’s what you’ll need:

A Cup Of Dry Dog Food
A Tablespoon of Beef Broth (for flavor)
About 4 or 5 Cups of Water
1/2 cup assorted cooked veggies (like carrots or peas)

Mix it all together and WALA! Healthy, delicious for picky dogs, and easy to make!

As you probably already appreciate, German shepherds are not small dogs which must be kept under control. So German shepherd training is vital from when they are young.

I adopted Sheba, my 56 week old German shepherd, when she was just 2 months old.

I can’t lie to you, she was hard work immediately from the outset!

If I left anything hanging around, I would find it would be chewed up or I’d discover it in the yard. I found out pretty fast that I would have to train her quickly before she ruined my house.

Dog Training Books Were’nt The Answer

Then I bought several books from Online on dog training and tried a couple of tips however Sheba just wouldn’t learn from them.

Gladly, one afternoon I was reading through several dog training sites and discovered something which would open my eyes to precisely what I should have been doing instead and why Sheba was behaving like she was.

It Made Such A Difference

What I learned showed me to have the ability to train the dog within such a short space of time and both of us have never looked back.

Sheba was very quickly obedient and I was able to leave things lying around. The dog suddenly was so well behaved and house trained too. It eliminated all the problems and we got on so well.

If you happen to have a German shepherd and they are giving you issues with behaviour then I should be able to provide the answer by sharing with you what I discovered.

It was really easy however worked practically straight away. I would be able to tell what Sheba was thinking and why the dog was performing the things she did. This was so essential in discovering how to train Sheba correctly.

German Shepherd Puppy with runs?

Hi

I have a german shepherd puppy who is 12 weeks old! He has had all of his injections and for 5 days now, he has had the squidgy runs! He is fine in himself and I have given him rice and chicken for the last 2 days but to no avail! I am obviously concerned as I thought the runs would be over by now! Any honest advice would be good as I am worried he may have a more serious problem! I have booked appt with vet! Help?

It is great that you have a vet appointment. It seems like you are doing all the right things. I had a pup that this happened to and it was worm. If he is drinking fine, you will be ok till your apointment. hope all goes well for ya.

How to train my german shepherd to walk on a leach?

I have a german shepherd, he is 1 year old, and he walks fine on a leach…when i only take him one spot in the yard to go to the bath room, if i try to walk him anywhere else, he runs, and we have ducks in our neighborhood and he likes to chase them, is there any suggestions or books or classes any of you recommend for me???? Get a leash and a collar. Hold the leash firmly at your waist and use your body, not arms, when you go the other way. Everytime your dog goes infront of you turn and run the otherway. When he gets by you, praise him and tive him a treat. This will only take about 10 minutes. To get him to stop with you, stop, and if he goes forwar, turn and run the otherway. Same works if he goes too far to the side. I train with a prong collar as it puts less strain on my dogs neck and needs a lot less power( wich makes it even gentler) A prong collat acts like a mouth that nips like an alpha dog or mom dog would do to give a correction. They help you speak dog languange so your dog won’t be frustrated, he will know what you mean.

ive always wanted a dog, but im in full time education?

Hey guys, quick question,

Ive always wanted a dog, a German shepherd or a Labrador. But at the moment im in full time education. If i buy a puppy this summer (at 6-8 weeks old), and train the dog for 2 months, and then get back to school and leaving the dog for 6hour a working day, am i not ready to get a dog?

Six hours isn’t very long. Most people have jobs and with the commute are gone 9-10 hours 5 days a week. It sounds as though the dog will be inside an apartment. In that case a german shepherd or lab is absolutely a bad, bad idea. If you have a yard ,fine. I am not much for inside dogs so maybe someone can clue him in to the good inside dogs?

Or do you want a body guard and home protector? Do you need support to cope with a disability?

Each breed has characteristics that indicate what your life with your new friend will be like. If you aren’t very patient or don’t like a lot of noise, you probably shouldn’t adopt a small, energetic dog with lots of demands for attention. If you want an affectionate loyal companion, you might want to consider a Golden or Labrador Retriever or a Collie. If you want to protect your property, you might take a look at a German Shepherd, a Rottweiler, or a Doberman Pincher.

If your household includes young children, your choice should be a careful one. Your new dog will have to be patient and tolerate with kindness having its tail pulled, being jumped on, and engaged in wrestling for hours on end. Bulldogs, American Eskimo dogs, Beagles, Retrievers, Setters, Sheepdogs, and many Terriers are among the many breeds good with children.

Want a dog you can dress up and put in cute clothes? Then look for a dog that has plenty of hair (for those fancy hair-dos) and is small enough to carry around. “Designer dogs” like Poodles, Yorkies and Westies, Bichon Frises, Pomeranians, and the more exotic Shih Tzu are excellent candidates for this.

If you’re looking for protection, be sure to look at breeds that aren’t too friendly to strangers. Great Danes are huge and intimidating, but they’re likely to fall in love with the first burglar they meet! Bulldogs are another breed that look fierce but come out kissing. German Shepherds are probably the most familiar and trainable guard dogs. Other breeds also protect your home and family: Rottweilers, Boxers, Doberman Pinchers, and Giant Schnauzers are among them.

There are a few breeds that were created for their ferociousness. Rottweilers and Pit Bull Terriers are notorious for vicious attacks. So if you are considering these breeds, you must be very clear about what to expect and very careful in training a well-behaved dog.

When you decide to bring a dog into your home, you need to be educated about what you need, what you want, and what breed will most likely fulfill your goals. When you adopt a dog, you are adding a member to your family – one for which you will be responsible for a lifetime. You should be committed to working through all the behavioral and training kinks and providing a stable, loving home. You’ll not only have to train your dog, but you’ll have to be trained in how to handle that dog.

A final note: Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, says, “There are no bad dogs. Only bad dog owners.” No matter what breed you bring into your home, in the end, you are the one responsible for your dog’s behavior. Learn all you can about the dog you hope to own, and learn all you can about yourself as a pack leader. Even the feared Pit Bull is a sweet loving dog in the right hands.

No matter what breed you think you want, you should know about the specific dog’s parentage, personal history, and temperament before making the commitment to be his lifetime caretaker and friend.
