german shepherd attack video what’s the thing sheep dog trainers always hold in their hands and why is my gsd becoming more aggressive?
i saw a video of a german shepherd shepherding and the trainer was holding something in his hand that the gsd was following around the sheep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMxxNaSfD-o&feature=related is the link to the vid. and my 5 month gsd is becoming more aggressive towards goats. first she started shepherding them. then yesterday she separated a baby goat from the herd and attacked it but we were able to stop her! earlier all she did was shepherd them like she’s supposed to.

my german shepherd is a rescue dog. we just got her about 2 years ago, and the vet thinks she’s around 3 or 4 years of age. she’s small for her breed and her background is pretty murky. the SPCA said she might have been used as a training dog for pitbulls and other fighting breeds. she was very afraid of people when we first got her, but she’s warmed up a bit. she’s wary of strangers, but she loves our family. she’s definetly my mom’s dog though. everyday my mom will lay down to take a 45 minute nap, if she has time. and our dog gets so excited. she’ll run around and jump on my mom when she hears the word nap, and then run upstairs, always looking over her shoulder to see if she’s being followed. then she jumps up on the bed, circles around a few times, and lays down right next to my mom. we all think it’s the funniest thing, that she gets so excited. do you think there’s a reason for this? or does she just like relazing with her master? thanks for any comments :] ♥

I have a german shepherd puppy who is 12 weeks old! He has had all of his injections and for 5 days now, he has had the squidgy runs! He is fine in himself and I have given him rice and chicken for the last 2 days but to no avail! I am obviously concerned as I thought the runs would be over by now! Any honest advice would be good as I am worried he may have a more serious problem! I have booked appt with vet! Help?

How to train my german shepherd to walk on a leach?
I have a german shepherd, he is 1 year old, and he walks fine on a leach…when i only take him one spot in the yard to go to the bath room, if i try to walk him anywhere else, he runs, and we have ducks in our neighborhood and he likes to chase them, is there any suggestions or books or classes any of you recommend for me???? He likes to ride in the car, but i can never take him anymore bc he likes to run
Get a leash and a collar. Hold the leash firmly at your waist and use your body, not arms, when you go the other way. Everytime your dog goes infront of you turn and run the otherway. When he gets by you, praise him and tive him a treat. This will only take about 10 minutes. To get him to stop with you, stop, and if he goes forwar, turn and run the otherway. Same works if he goes too far to the side. I train with a prong collar as it puts less strain on my dogs neck and needs a lot less power( wich makes it even gentler) A prong collat acts like a mouth that nips like an alpha dog or mom dog would do to give a correction. They help you speak dog languange so your dog won’t be frustrated, he will know what you mean.

german shepherd command words Question about german shepherd puppy or any puppy?
I’m gonna be getting a german shepherd puppy soon. I have talk to several breeders, and each one gives me a different answer. I asked one breeder, will the puppy understand to “sit” if i tell him in german language. The english word “SIT” is pronounced as “seat” in german. I’m not sure how to spell it but it’s pronounced as “seat”. One breeder siad when you tell the german shepherd to “seat”, he will understand. Some other breeder said that’s not true because they won’t understand it, even if it’s in german. They said you have to teach the dog the commands. At this point, I trust neither one of them. I’m going to gear my trust more toward you guys on yahoo answers……
second question: When my german shepherd puppy licks my face is that like him givng me a kiss and demonstrating that he loves me?? Can I give my dog a kiss on the side of his face or something to show that i love him too?
