How much would you pay for a german shepherd lab mix puppy?
I want to get one but I’m wondering what would be a good price?
I’d pay the shelter adoption fee. Those are both very commonly found breeds in shelters. Go down to your local shelter and ask if they have one. If they don’t, try looking on petfinder.

German Shepherd Black Lab mix puppies fighting 5 – 6 months old
german shepherd lab mix german shepherd or german shepherd/lab mix !?!
-What are the pros and cons of a german shepherd puppy/dog.
-What are the pros and cons of a german shepherd/lab mix.
& witch one do you think would be cuter when they age? a german shepherd dog or a german shepherd/lab mix dog?
Thanks!
If you opt for a German Shepherd (purebred) puppy then you will be getting a predictable dog. The breeder will be able to show you the parents of your chosen puppy and easily predict the future size, temperament and looks of your dog. You can also find out about the breed in general by visiting the German Shepherd Club for your country – the German Shepherd is such a popular breed that there is a worldwide umbrella organization for breed enthusiasts – this means you will have no problem finding out about the breeds requirements and average temperament! Getting a puppy means you’ll be able to influence its future character and as long as training starts at a young age you will likely get a very well behaved, predictable dog. If your thoughts do not immediately spring to the notion of a puppy, some GSD breeders may have older dogs for adoption that were returned to them for various reasons, the breed society will also hold information of adult GSDs looking for homes in your area – the pros of adopting an older GSD from the breed society or a local breeder is that their dogs temperaments are likely to be well known and they will often still have the dogs pedigree with the names of its parents – so you can still judge the health, temperament, and if still youngish, size of the dog.
There are also plenty of adult GSDs searching for homes in rescue centres worldwide – I do not think I have ever visited a shelter which did not contain at least one of these dogs. The pros of adopting a shelter GSD is that you will helping a dog that may otherwise have been put to sleep and you will have the opportunity to adopt a dog whose size and character is now definitely decided. The cons are that GSDs are very intelligent dogs and have a natural tendency to develop unwanted guarding behaviors if not properly socialized – a shelter GSD may have aggressive behavioral problems or a possessive nature which only makes them suitable for an experienced GSD owner who knows how to cope with them. GSDs are also quite susceptible to Hip Displacia and other health ailments that a rescue dog cannot be cleared of possibly carrying – this also needs to be taken into account if you search for a puppy – find a breeder who is responsible and hip-scores all potential breeding stock and is registerd with the Breed Society -beware of back-yard breeders!
This is not to say that shelter GSDs do not make good pets – this is anything but the truth! However they are likely to have behavioral problems which may take a long time to work with and if you’re not experienced you may find yourself returning the dog which is unfair on the animal. If you find a well-balanced GSD in a shelter or are confident you can work with its problems, they will make an excellent pet and I would definitely recommend you choose to adopt if possible!
You shouldn’t buy a German Shepherd/Labrador x from a *breeder* – it will have been either an accidental litter which means you can’t guarantee the health of the puppies or will have simply been bred to make fast cash. There are already millions of crossbreed dogs dying in shelters and you shouldn’t give your money to somebody who is breeding more – ESPECIALLY if they call their dogs Labrador Shepherds or German Labradors, Alsatiadors or any other ridiculous designer cross breed name. They are breeding for money and may have bred animals susceptible to health disorders or with unpredictable temperaments. No matter what a breeder tells you, you also can’t predict the size or looks of a crossbreed and which breed they will look most like so *cuteness* isn’t really a factor – you could get a GSD sized labrador look alike or GSD lookalike with the personality of a Labrador – you won’t know until the dog grows up.
If you want a German Shepherd, Lab cross visit your local shelter and find a cross breed – don’t buy a puppy. There are plenty of Lab and GSD crosses in shelters, but don’t expect to know whether your particular dog is an exact cross of Lab and GSD – you will never know!
Also, don’t choose a dog because of their cuteness or good looks! The German Shepherd is a beautiful dog but they are highly intelligent and will not live quietly as a *pet* alone – you will need to work them or involve them in competitive obedience or agility classes to truly keep them happy, they are not simply a dog, they are a real part of your family! A german shepherd needs lots of exercise and stimulation and you should take this into account when deciding if the breed is right for you.
Labradors and German Shepherds are highly popular breeds – so if you choose a puppy of either breed take care to find a responsible breeder or you will get a sickly dog prone to health disorders.

Aggressive dog training – Train Your Dog To Protect You
The desire of some dog owners is to train their dog to be more than just the family pet. They want their dog trained to protect their home and family. Aggressive training could make a dog unstable and unsafe for his owners. Proper attack dog training should be left to expert instructors. However, you can train your dog to be more protective of you in time of danger by following these tips.
If your dog can back, it can give you basic protection to ward off intruders. Some dogs are naturally more protective than others. You will get the best results from a good, protective breed such as Doberman, Rottweiler, and German shepherd.
Let your dog feel he is part of the family as much as possible. He should be used to and play frequently with every member of the family. He should be kept around when visitors come. He should be taken for picnics, allowed to be around during birthday parties etc. He has to learn the difference between play and danger. Also keeping him around will help you to earn his trust. Your dog’s natural protective instincts are stronger when he feels that he is part of the family.
Obedience training is very important for your dog. He should be trained on basic commands as sit, heel etc. He must be trained to be obedient in all situations. If your dog is not obedient, he cannot protect you. Your dog must be able to obey commands both on and off leash.
You will need a friend to help you to train your dog to attack on command. Get a life size doll or make a scarecrow with some old clothes. Let your friend stay behind the doll and use a stick to poke the dog’s nose. He will get irritated and start to growl. Now issue the command to attack. Reward with praise every time he gets it. Do it over and over until he can back and attack just by hearing your ‘attack’ command.
Be as gentle as you can during this training. Don’t be harsh or use any force. Just help the dog to bring out his natural aggression and protective ability. Remember advanced attack training is for professionals. It could backfire on you if you try it.
german shepherd lab dog which is a better dog? German shepherd or lab? ?
We are looking for a new addition to our family with 2 little dogs and one big dog and a cat. we are looking for soemthing playful and well behaved. i have done research and i cant choose between these two wonderful dogs. i want an opinion from someone who has had both or at least one. thanks
This are two HUGELY different breeds.
What do you want, a retriever or a working/herding dog?
Two different personalities and motivations.
Personally, I prefer German Shepherds. I like the intelligence level. But, that being said, they are a lot of work to keep them happy. Hours of exercise and work a day. Constant training. Plus, you may have an issue if you ever have to move to an apartment, and some insurances will not cover people with GSD’s.
If you are trying to decide between the two, then you should head to http://www.petfinder.com and rescue a mix. This way you get a little of each breed AND save a life. Other than pits, it seems that every other dog within 300 miles of us is a retriever/shepherd mix.
Does anyone have a German Shepherd Chow mix? Or Lab mix with chow?
I’m not sure what breeds my two dogs are. I think they are some combo of lab/german shepherd and chow. If anyone can give me pictures of any of these combinations so I can see if they look like my dogs I would appreciate it. Or if you have one but don’t have pictures I’d still be curious to hear a description of their looks/personality/temperament etc… Thanks!

I Am Legend online, the 3rd movie based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 science fictional novel, proceeds as quickly as the infected mutants that hunt this story’s evident very last dude standing; the hero’s fate is made and the credits are running barely after you’ve managed to tune out the blabbermouth behind you.
But a thriller which feels quicker in comparison with an episode of Lost won’t elicit nightmares as much as a big so what after all, if a scary film is of real holy bejesus caliber, you should be exhaling with relief by the end instead of thinking, “Wow, this went fast!” Will Smith stars as Robert in I Am Legend online, a military scientist who decides to remain in Manhattan while his loved ones and the remaining portion of the island are evacuated during an epidemic.
He’s positive he can uncover an antidote to a virus that itself was touted as the cure for cancer, but a few years following the quarantine, New York’s roads are overgrown with weeds, and Robert is alone along with his German shepherd, Sam. He as well as Sam venture out by day, racing throughout the metropolis in a Mustang (which is exhilarating to view, although you wonder precisely what the actual rush is) to find food, pay a visit to the movie shop, and hold on to some sense of routine/sanity. Then Robert and Sam lock themselves down at night, hiding from the hairless, furious millions of a vampire-zombie mix identified as “dark seekers.” An empty town, a sole survivor, a “virus” that can rightly be altered with rage yes, it is all quite 28 Days Later, except, well, it is not as good. Director Francis Lawrence lowers his game by resorting to lame scares, the lack of which is pretty much all of which rescued his only other feature, 2005’s Constantine, from being completely a disaster. There are some deftly traumatic scenes here one during which Robert chases Sam into a darkish street is really a high light plus Smith is a worthy enough lead, tamping down his quippage and expressing anger with not a single “Aw, haall no!” Thriller fans in search of more substantive enjoyment, nonetheless, might find that phrase handy. Watch I Am Legend online don’t throw away cash on this nonetheless. About the Author

I posted another question and someone has really put me off, saying that a cross breed gets all the bad traits of both breeds…is this true!? And why would that happen!? Mum and dad are both loving family pets, friendly and well trained – so why would their puppies be bad news, just because they happen to be cross breeds?!
I had a pure bred German Shepherd dog before, I never ever want to replace him, so thought I’d go for a cross breed Shepherd, so I could still get the Shepherd traits, but in a different physical form (it’s a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross). I am paying a token for the dog to ensure I am serious, but I now feel put off, by someone saying there are no guarantees with cross breeds, so I should steer clear.
No whoever said that lied. It’s not true that the offspring will get all the bad traits at all! That would put me off too. The offspring will either get recessive or dominant or both genes from the parents. and who knows which one is bad???? lol
but don’t pay attention to whoever said- go out and get your puppy! he (or she) will be GREat!!!!!
Choosing A Dog? – Check This Out First
One of the great joys of life is acquiring a new dog. Whether it is a lively fun seeking puppy or a mature dog from a rescue centre there is the excitement of collecting the dog and the eager anticipation of the pleasures of dog ownership to come. But how can you ensure a long and happy relationship? You need to learn about dog care and training as well as considering your own situation before you even start looking for a dog.
Considerations
At Home
Are there children in your household.
Do you have other pets.
Do you have a reasonable sized yard or garden.
Have you considered the dog’s toilet arrangements.
Are members of your family prepared to spend time training and exercising your dog.
Can you fund good quality feed, some vet’s bills, insurance and kennel stays if necessary
Dog Breeds, Size and Weight
You will sometimes need to handle your dog e.g. grooming, trimming nails, bathing or lifting onto scales for a weight check. Obviously, the size and weight of your dog will make this easy (Chihuahua at 2.70 kg to 3.63 kg) or near impossible (St Bernard at 75 kg to 91 kg)
Exercise
Exercise is a key factor in maintaining your dog’s health. Small dogs like Jack Russell Terriers will not need as much daily exercise as a working breed such as a German Shepherd.
You need to decide how much time can be given to the task. The less time available the more important it is to acquire a smaller dog.
Home Environment
If you like your house to be warm some dogs may find it distressing – a Shih Tzu dog for instance or a dog with a thick coat. If you have an immaculate home filled with expensive furniture, you will need to think carefully about the sort of dog you intend to buy especially if you want a puppy.
Grooming Your Dog
You need to groom your dog on a regularly. Size comes into it but so does the type of coat. A short coated dog is obviously going to pick up less dirt, and mud. and be easier to clean and groom. A muddy dog may require washing. This needs a facility such as an old fashioned tin bath. You could use your shower or even your own bath but it means a lot of cleaning up afterwards.
Temperament
You’ll find that working breeds, a broad group, including everything from guard dogs to sheep dogs are often more stubborn and tough-minded. Terriers are often bossy and a little aggressive. Hounds are usually relaxed and friendly, but sometimes difficult to train.
Carry out some research into different breed characteristics. Do this on line and ask your vet’s opinion.
You will be looking to compare the following points.
Energy level
Activity and playfulness levels
Affection and Loyalty levels
Intelligence
Aggression (towards people/other dogs/other pets)
Ease of training
Heat and cold tolerance
Compatibility with people and other animals
Some Breed Comparisons:
Labrador
This breed is good with children and quite intelligent. They can be hyperactive if they do not get enough exercise because they are basically a working dog.
Golden Retriever
These dogs are similar in temperament to the Labrador but have less tendency to hyper activity
Poodle
An intelligent dog. It has an excellent temperament. It was used as a hunting dog in times gone by so it is quite tough by nature.
Beagle
Friendly, clever and not too big, making them suitable as a family dog.
They can be over energetic if not exercised. They respond well to firm training.
Cairn Terrier
Busy little dogs that adapt well to children. They are usually of good quiet temperament
Collie
The Collie and the smaller Shetland are both calm, gentle and tolerant breeds that usually do well with children. They do need some constructive play i.e. fetching a ball etc.
German Shepherd
Very intelligent but it is a big dog and needs exercise and constructive play. It is loyal and a good guard dog. However, a German Shepherd must be properly trained.
Cross-Bred Dogs
Come in all shapes and sizes and typically should not suffer from in-bred temperament faults.

german shepherd kinds Where can I get a collie german shepherd mix in New Jersey?
My parents recently lost our family dog, Joey, about 2 weeks ago. Although I know they are not ready to get another dog for a few months, I wanted to help them find a place where they could get the same kind of dog Joey was, a german shepherd collie mix. The place we got him 14 years ago no longer sells mix breeds like him, any idea where we can find a puppy of the same breed?
I know about pet finder.com but I’ve been having problems finding anything in the area. I suppose what I’m looking for is a breeder so I can make sure it’s not a puppy mill operation.
Sweetie, a ‘breeder’ of a mixed dog is just as bad as a puppymill.
I am in NJ and I volunteer at a shelter. Would you like me to call around my contacts and try to help you?
Male/female/how old?
Email me.
EDIT: Here’s one, at my shelter!!! If you like his looks, let me know and I’ll go ‘interview’ him for you.
A German Shepherd is a dog breed coming initially from from Germany. They are beneficial and pleasant, and can always be remarkably bright. As a result of these helpful suggestions, it will be possible to educate your German Shepherd to become a hard- working and obedient canine and pet.
German Shepherd Dog training helpful tips:
German shepherds will not recognize high numbers of repetition and will very easily become bored. If your canine finds you dull as the instructor, it will generate its own enjoyment. You can teach your canine in overall performance occasions such as: behavior, rally, speed, herding, and tracking. You should attend basic behavior training classes at a early age and continue to train your pet following that.
To coach a German Shepherd Dog, focus on positive reinforcement and enthusiasm. Once you know what provokes your canine, this is what will become their incentive for learning. There is certainly never any need for physical force in training.
German Shepherds require strong leaders or perhaps they will lead you. They need respect from their owner, and you also should respect pet. Becoming a strong leader means nothing more than establishing guidelines and boundaries from the first day with your dog. Example of rules could be: improving impulse control and patience along with comfortably sitting and expecting supper or to go outside; concentrated eye contact before a toy is actually tossed; a wait at a boundary line when guests enter the home. There are as much principles accessible as you can think of, and the canines will certainly thrive under this scenario.
The German Shepherd Dog makes an excellent guardian, but this is instinctual and no training is required. DO NOT ever attempt to train your dog to become aggressive.
Pure aggression is not desirable in the German Shepherd Dog. Aggression comes from poor genetics, lack of socialization, or not enough coaching. Some dogs are genetically aggressive, but the more common cases originate from deficiency of instruction and socialization. German Shepherds are bred to be aloof and suspicious of strangers. Without the proper socialization, they are unable to determine friend from foe. Many cases of dog aggression, territorial aggression, and stranger aggression can and do result from this particular inappropriate training and socialization.
German Shepherds could be known to chase something that moves. Some have more prey drive than others, but realize that early training is necessary to show your pet to not run after felines, small dogs, or children. Your dog must be taught a ‘leave it’ and an immediate ‘come.’
German Shepherd Dog training should be exciting! They may be so highly intelligent that training them can be a real pleasure. Remember that early and on-going socialization, setting rules, thorough training, and being a respected leader are the most crucial things when training this kind of breed of dog.
