Dog trainers in Toronto?

We’re looking for a really good dog trainer in Toronto. We have a 2 year old German Shepherd from Egypt who was abandoned as a pup. As a result, the dog does not know how to act with people.
What we are looking for is a professional trainer who can train the dog (and us since this is our first dog) in the following areas:

1) Get rid of the dog’s initial behaviour and habits
2) Protection/guarding
3) AKC Obedience
4) CGC training
4) Interaction with children

Our goal is to get the dog to be an effective protection and guard dog while being comfortable in a social environment and with children.

Then google dog trainers in toronto.

Are Horus And Jesus The Same?

With the success of the internet movie “ZEITGEIST” there has been a great deal of interest in the Egyptian religion, especially as regards how it is related to Christianity. One of the most intriguing aspects of this subject concerns the comparisons between the Egyptian god Horus and the Judeo-Christian godman Jesus Christ.

In my book “The Christ Conspiracy,” released in 1999, I created a list of several characteristics attributed to Horus, including the following:

* Horus was born of the virgin Isis-Meri on December 25th in a cave/manger with his birth being announced by a star in the East and attended by three wise men.

* His earthly father was named “Seb” (“Joseph”).

* He was of royal descent.

* At age 12, he was a child teacher in the Temple, and at 30, he was baptized, having disappeared for 18 years.

* Horus was baptized in the river Eridanus or Iarutana (Jordan) by “Anup the Baptizer” (“John the Baptist”), who was decapitated.

* He had 12 disciples, two of whom were his “witnesses” and were named “Anup” and “Aan” (the two “Johns”).

* He performed miracles, exorcised demons and raised El-Azarus (“El-Osiris”) from the dead.

*Horus walked on water.

And so on, through several more profound and germane correspondences.

The bulk of these attributes I have demonstrated in my nearly 600-page book “Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection,” using thousands of pages of primary sources and the works of highly credentialed experts in relevant fields. “Christ in Egypt” includes chapters on the following subjects:

* Horus as the sun god.

* Horus battling the Prince of Darkness, Set or Seth.

* His birthday on December 25th or the winter solstice.

* His mother’s name or title being “Meri” or “Mery.”

* The star in the east and the wise men at Horus’s birth.

* Horus at the ages of 12 and 30.

* “Anup the Baptizer”.

* Horus’s 12 followers.

* His performing miracles, walking on water, healing the sick and raising the dead.

* The Egyptian gods’ many epithets such as “the Truth, the Light and the Good Shepherd.”

* Horus as “crucified.”

* The burial for three days and the resurrection, etc.

I have also written articles in support of several of these contentions, including about Horus in cruciform or as “crucified” and his father being “Seb” who was a tekton or “carpenter.”

In the article about Horus being “crucified,” I conclude:

“As revealed in my books ‘Christ in Egypt’ and ‘Suns of God,’ there is much more to the subject of Pagan gods and goddesses on a cross or in cruciform, serving as crucifixes. The images and descriptions of deities in cruciform include Osiris, Isis and Horus, and the answer to the question of whether or not Horus was ever associated with the cross and depicted on a cross or in cruciform must be a resounding yes.”

Finally, the following is an excerpt from my article on the connection between Joseph and Seb:

“As demonstrated here and in my other works, the correlations between the Egyptian god Horus and Jewish godman Jesus are profound and important. These parallels include these figures’ ‘fathers,’ Seb and Joseph, whose names are similar and whose earthly roles and tektonic occupations likewise reveal significant correspondences that indicate the Egyptian myths may have been a principal source for various aspects of the gospel story of Christ.”

These articles and much more can be found on my websites.

spiked collar?

please dont infrom me it wouldnt work/dangerous i already know and i made my mind i want one and please dont reccomd ebay or petsmart/petco

im asking a very serious dog collar question.. i have a 2 year old german shepherd and my house got broken into and i want my german shepherd to look fierce so ive came to the conclusion to get him a intense spiked collar.
im looking for a ***LEATHER COLLAR** (id like it to be white but any colar works) with Spikes ^^^^3 rows of spikes or more… please dont post anything if theres only 1 or 2 rows and i want the spikes big. like the ones in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frwvy5vr1… please none less.. this is my 8 time asking this and ive tried looking for ones and i cant seem to find them at all thats why im asking this.. thank you!! if someone posts a goodo answer ill help boost ur yahoo answers points

a german shepherd in general should be protective. if your house got broken into, and your dog didn’t help any or stop the person, a spiked collar is not going to matter. all you’re going to do is make yourself look trashy and endanger your dog. since you’re not asking a question, because you said you already have decided, all i have to say is poor dog. because if you think you need a collar to make a german sheperd look tough, you have many issues. please don’t pick me as best answer i would be embarrased, and don’t need the point boost from someone like you.

Will the Severe Spore Drm be the Undoing of the Video Games Industry?

Millions of video game lovers, many of whom were devoted to the widely popular Sims video games, waited anxiously for Electronic Arts newest video game release called Spore. Electronics Arts did not disappoint it’s many fans as the $49.99 regular version of Spore, the $9.99 Spore Creature Creator and the $79.99 Galactic version of Spore were released without a hitch and were quickly snatched off the retail stores shelves. Although Spore’s sales didn’t quite match the volume of sales of video game monoliths Guitar Hero III or Grand Theft Auto IV, it did very well. It is usually about a week after a video game release when the people who bought the game begin flooding the Internet with either their personal praise or damnation of the video game. They talk about things like game play, graphics speed and resolution, end game, online play, character building etc. Not this time! With Spore, the talk was all about its DRM!

What is DRM? The copyright protection called DRM is an acronym for Digital Rights Management, a term used to describe the different techniques for restricting the free use and transfer of digital content. DRM is used in a number of media, but is found most often in music and video files. Many of people believe that DRM should stand for Digital Restrictions Manager being that it manages users restrictions while taking away their rights. Companies like Apple began using DRM under the auspices of fighting piracy. Has it worked? You tell me. After the news of the type of severe DRM Electronics Arts put on Spore spread to future buyers, it took only days for over 500,000 illegal copies of the Spore video game (without DRM) to be downloaded from P2P BitTorrent sites on the Internet. Does DRM work? No! It ticks people off. If you don’t believe it, ask Amazon.com, where thousands of people unhappy with Spore’s DRM restrictions gave the new video game a lowly one star rating. Thanks to DRM, Spore has become the most pirated game ever.

So, what was so bad about Spore’s DRM to get so many people in an uproar? Here is what it is all about and I am going to tell you from first hand experience because I purchased the $79.99 Galactic version of Spore and after one more download, the game will be worthless. Because my video card was not set perfectly to run Spore, I received a warning message after the first installation that I needed to change my video card settings and reinstall Spore again or the game would not work. One installation used. I did what was required and reinstalled Spore again. No error messages this time, the game works wonderfully. Two installations used. So why am I counting installations? You see, with Spore’s DRM restrictions, the purchaser can only install the game three times. After the third installation, your bought and paid for game of Spore will be nothing but a worthless piece of plastic. You can play it, but you will never be able to install it again. So you pray nothing goes wrong with your computer because you won’t be able to install Spore to a new one. If I would have known about Electronic Arts DRM restrictions for Spore, I never would have purchased it and I may have gone as far as joining the other 500,000 so-called pirates visiting a free game downloads site to download a DRM-less version.

Some folks say that a company should be allowed to protect their copyrighted products, and I agree as long as they don’t take the rights away from the new owners, the people who have purchased those copyrighted products. I want to first say that I don’t necessarily hate the idea of copyright protection but I do hate the way DRM is being abused by the companies. When a person buys a copyrighted product, the copyright should now belong to the new owner along with the product. As far as I am concerned, when I purchase something it should be mine to do with as I please. As long as it does not involve harming, torturing or killing a living creature, I should have complete and total rights to do what I want with that product. Here are some examples of what I mean. If I were to purchase a German Shepherd dog ($800), it is mine. If I want to either sell or give my dog away to someone else, I have every right to do so. If I buy a car ($25,000) and a week later feel like selling it or giving it away, I can because I have the every right to do so. If I were to buy a house ($200,000) outright for cash (I wish), that house would be completely mine to sell or even give it away if I choose. If I have complete and total rights to do what I want with my dog, my car and my house, will somebody please tell me why can I face criminal charges and punishment for doing what I want with my $79.99 game of Spore or any other video game for that matter. Heck, with EA’s new DRM restrictions imposed on my Spore video game, I can’t even install it more than three times. In truth, Spore still belongs to Electronic Arts even though I forked out my hard earned cash for the rights of ownership. Therein lies the true crime my friends. And the video game industry is wondering why more and more normally honest folks have turned to pirating.

Sadly, video game companies like Electronic Arts are unwittingly causing the downfall of the video game industry with their abuse of DRM restrictions. Piracy paranoia has already taken a huge bite out of the PC and Mac game industry. Remember when stores like Egghead and Electronics Boutique used to be stocked wall to wall with computer games for your PC or Mac. Then they come up with all of these unjust anti-piracy rules that if you open the games packaging there will be no exchanges or refunds allowed. Are you kidding me. With all of the different computer configurations out there due to lack of standards within the industry, you were lucky not to run into a conflict when installing or playing the game. How many of you remember buying a $50 computer game only to have it not work when you installed it. Remember how you felt when you tried to get your money back for a $50 game that you never even got to play only to be told by the suspicious salesman at the stores counter, Too Bad, No Refund, No Exchange Policy Here! A lot of people remember. That is the main reason good honest folk turned to P2P download sites for their computer games in the first place. No risk of losing their money through no fault of their own. Thus began the downfall of the video game industry for PC’s and Mac’s. Now when you go into a store looking to purchase a game for your PC, all you will find is a little rack of about fifteen computer games tucked away somewhere in the back of a video game store.

Don’t look now, but the video game industry is following that same path of self destruction as before, and the DRM restrictions they are putting on games like Spore will be their undoing. If the fact that the Spore DRM policy has caused it to become the most pirated video game in history does not bring about changes in copyright policies, then they will be in deep trouble as an industry. I realize I am ranting but I tend to get ticked off when I am being ripped off and I am not alone here. Head over to CNet or Amazon.com to see what people are saying about the Spore DRM policy. The video game makers had better listen too, because they are on the path of causing their own demise with such a draconic DRM policy. Electronic Arts, the maker of Spore especially had better open up its ears, because over 500,000 people downloading DRM free versions of the video game from Free Game Downloads sites in only a few days makes a thunderous sound. The release of Spore was supposed to be a happy day for all. Instead, EA’s punishing DRM policy may have begun the downfall of the video game industry, and that would be a sad day for everyone.

pierced dogs ARE descendants of wolves. it’s in their DNA and has been proved, unless new breeds of dog just appear randomly? yeah that sounds right

There are some types of dogs that are bred to look like wolves, but have no wolf blood in them.

training a dog for protection?

ok, i live out in the country and i don’t believe in guns cause i have trained muay thai and martial arts all of my life. my wife and kids are sometimes at home when i’m away at work. is it possible that a dog can be trained that he is protective of the family and not to fight like people use them for? i mean want him to be playful and fetch ball or freesbie and etc…but i don’t want to fight my dog in any way. i just want one for security in my home. is there any videos or training on how to do so to make this happen? i notice that police use german shepherds but i have seen they use pit bulls too. i think they are just gorgeous! i just want one from birth to grow with my family pretty much.

You cannot, I repeat CANNOT, train your own protection dog. You can purchase one already trained and yes, it will fullfill your needs as far as family pet, playing ball with the kids and totally safe to take with on family outtings. Safe for family and friends who come over to be around etc etc etc. However, you are looking at $50,000-100,00. The amount of training that is put into a dog like this is astronomical. You cannot just pick a puppy and say “yup, train that one!” As not all dogs have a personality suited for PPD work.

Schutzhund is a “sport” it is a game that dogs play. Most dogs performing this will not bite an actual person nor “protect”. They just view the bite sleeve as a bit huge tug toy and work to get to play.

If you attempt to train a ppd yourself I guarantee you will end up with a dog who has some aggression issues. You WILL end up with a dog who bites the wrong person at the wrong time. It will not be a dog safe to have around.

With that said, ANY dog makes a good deterrent. Burglars and such simply try not to target homes that contain a dog. Even a yippy little dog is a threat to a burglar as all that barking gives them away. Get yourself a Brinks home security system if you are concerned about your families welfare while you are away. Unless you have $100,000 to spend a dog is merely a pet. Hope I helped

How To Choose the Right Dog Breed For Your Family

Getting a pet dog is really a Zen process of self-discovery. You can’t know the right dog for you until you know yourself. For example, a jock would prefer an active dog. A lazy slug would prefer a dog that doesn’t require much exercise.

A touchy-feely person would prefer a friendly dog. A tightly-wound person would probably prefer a dog that doesn’t bark or shed too much. Think of picking a pup like choosing a mate; you have to find one that compliments your personality.

Here are some very general guidelines. Of course, we won’t list every dog breed on the planet, but they’ll get you thinking in the right direction:

Intelligent dogs

- Poodle
- German Shepherd
- Australian Sheepdog
- Belgian Sheepdog

Dogs with little exercise

- Dachshund
- Brussels Griffon
- French Bulldog
- Manchester Terrier
- Toy breeds (such as a Chihuahua or Pekingese)

Good with kids

- Pug
- English Cocker Spaniel
- Beagle
- Basset Hound
- Brittany Spaniel
- Old English Sheepdog

Good city dogs

- Pug
- Basenji
- Boston Terrier
- Bulldog
- Lhasa Apso
- Welsh Corgi
- Scottish Terrier

Quiet dogs

- Basenji
- Borzoi
- Chesapeake Bay Retriever
- Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
- Whippet

Friendly dogs

- Brittany Spaniel
- Bichon Frise
- Old English Sheepdog
- Bearded Collie
- Golden Retriever
- Labrador Retriever

There are dozens of breeds and dozens of traits to sort them by. You get the idea.

Again, these guidelines are EXTREMELY rough. Picking a dog based on these lists is like getting a phone number off a bathroom wall. There are no shortcuts. You can try going to a dog show or talking to a vet.

In our opinion, though, the absolutely best way to research is to talk to friends who have dogs. Believe us; they’ll give you more information than you care to know: Sometimes even more than what we know.

In case you didn’t realize it, all of the breeds we listed above are purebreds. This means that they are the product of parents of the same breed. To get a true purebred worthy of being in a dog show, you often have to pay thousands of dollars.

Most people get mixes of some sort (the “cockapoo,” a combo of a cocker spaniel and a poodle, is quite popular), because rumor has it that purebred dogs can have personality problems because the gene pool is so small (think of people who marry their cousins). As a result, many people choose to go with a mutt, a mish-mash of different breeds.

Mutts can combine the best of two or more breeds in a one-of-a-
kind dog. Having a mutt is like the canine equivalent of owning an original work of art. Benji was a mutt. And who doesn’t like Benji?

What Sort Of Canine Do You See The Following GH Characters As …?

A few days ago I asked “what kind of feline do you see the following GH characters as” … this time I’m asking what kind of canine you see the same characters as:

Sonny
Jason
Claudia
Johnny
Carly
Dominic
Maxie
Spinelli
Sam

Sonny, I see as a Rottweiler or a Golden Jackal. Jason, a Greyhound or a Pit Bull … he’s faithful, and when he gets a sniff of something, he never lets go! Claudia is a cross between a Coyote and a Mad Dog! I can also see her as a Boxer or an Arctic Gray Wolf. Johnny is a Black Lab, probably. Carly’s probably a Chihuahua … Dominic is a little hard to place. Maybe a German Shepherd or a Doberman Pinscher?

Spinelli? A Poodle or a Golden Retriever. Maxie … a Collie. Sam is a Gray Wolf. And Liz? DEFinitely an Alaskan or a beautiful White Siberian Husky.

Sonny- Doberman (an aggressive dog)

Jason- Black Stray (for obvious reasons)

Claudia- Yorkie (because they’re yappy and like to bite people)

Johnny- Black Lab (don’t know why)

Carly- Golden Retriever (her gorgeous blonde hair and peppy temperament)

Dominic- German Shepard (assertive dog, but still kind of friendly)

Maxie- Pomeranian (preppy kind of dog)

Spinelli- Mutt (doesn’t run with the crowd)

Sam- Siberian Husky (they’re gorgeous and spunky)

Liz- Alaskan (pure and delicate looking dog)

Why do these puppies from the same littler look so different? (Picture included)?

Sorry there aren’t better pictures, and I know they are very young! It doesn’t matter to me I was just wondering what you guys thought. I’m adopting on in 5 weeks once they are 7 weeks old (or older if I can) There just seem to be two different types of puppies: almost all black with curly hair and ones with very prominant shepherd markings and straight hair. The mommy is a German Shepherd/ Lab cross (mostly german shepherd) They don’t know who the father is, they adopted the mom when she was already pregnant, she was a stray.

Thanks for the input!

Ummm….I’m only paying for the shots and deworming (spaying as soon as the pup is old enough). Why would I pay different amounts for a mutt vs. a pure bred dog? They are both dogs with the same amount of value in the world.

Hi I took in a pregnant stray in april and she had 8 pups.

2 looked like a mini border collie (now 32lbs)
2 looked like a GSD (now 50lbs)
2 were short little black buggers (now 35lbs)
2 tall black buggers (now 40ish lbs)

I spoke to the vet and he said either both parents were mixes and I got a variety or the litter could have more than 1 dad

Here are some puppy pics…remember same litter mom is a corgi/lab/collie mix (or so the vet thinks) and is 40lbs

Seated Marriage Ceremony Reception Games

Nothing is worse than having a wedding reception full of seated friends who look tired and possibly a bit of bit bored. Possibly this wedding would not feature a DJ and rockin’ music. Or perhaps the crowd is not into that entire dancing thing. Visit Here now http://dressestoweartoaweddingthe.com

What to do? It is not that hard. There are a myriad of activities you can plan that will not solely engage and entertain the visitors, but additionally help them get to know one another and – most importantly – the bride and groom just a bit bit better.

Here’s one that’s fun and would possibly remind you just a bit little bit of a soccer game. Make a placard for each guest. On one facet, letter “Bride” and on the other, “Groom”. Someone, and you probably have a DJ it may be him or her, or the very best man or maid of honor, asks a collection of questions. They might be simple, like “who was born in New York City”? Or they could be more sophisticated, resembling “who, at 6, broke their leg when they were playing with their German shepherd pet”?

Friends don’t yell their reply, but fairly show their placard, turning it to the “bride” side of they assume the query pertains to the bride or to the “groom” aspect if it’s the opposite. The friends’ guesses will be revealing, however much more revealing, are the true answers. It is a terrific, fun method for everybody to get to know just a little more in regards to the bride and groom.

One phrase of caution in regards to the above exercise: Maintain ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends out of the questions and don’t ask something that may be a little bit too revealing or too risquй. Keep in mind, grandmothers and grandfathers and younger children will seemingly be present!

If it is an excessive amount of work to create indicators for every particular person, you’ll be able to create simply  and create  teams – a workforce of men and a group of women. Grouped together, the teams can work collectively to determine on the answer and answer as a group. This “men versus women” concept is at all times well-liked and certain to be fun for everyone.

One silly game that’s always successful actually places the groom within the spotlight. How effectively does he know the feel and touch of his new wife? On this game, everybody finds out. You can do this a number of ways. You possibly can enlist just the marriage party in this recreation, or as many of the marriage ceremony visitors that wish to participate.

Line each participant up and blindfold the groom. Put the bride somewhere in the combine, and ship the groom on a hunt for his bride. The members can both shake the groom’s hand or give him a kiss on the cheek. In some versions, he would possibly feel their hair or their leg. The details are as much as you.

Depending on how far you need to take this recreation, you’ll be able to add a enjoyable factor to it that is sometimes popular. You’ve the groom feel the leg of every participant. The perfect man, or other male member of the wedding party, rolls up his pant leg, puts on a garter and has the groom really feel that. The groom has to kiss whoever he thinks is his bride, whereas nonetheless blindfolded. Often, he finally ends up kissing a man.

For an exercise that permits the friends to be viewers members as an alternative of contributors, think about the game of “feed me”. On this game, the bride is seated and the groom is (again) blindfolded. He is given a bit of meals after which spun around a few instances so he is a bit of bit dizzy. Guided only by the useful phrases of his new bride, he has to find her and get the piece of meals into her mouth. Remember to have the wedding get together shadowing him so there aren’t any accidents.

As soon as the groom has fed his new spouse, the tables are turned and she is blindfolded and should find him.

A couple of notes about this exercise: when feeding the bride, don’t use marriage ceremony cake or a chunk of bread with dip. In other phrases, don’t use anything too messy. If the groom has a hard time finding her mouth, he might possible smear the food on the bride’s face and that’s one thing that will not make a bride – prettily made up simply hours before – too happy.  Visit Here now http://dressestoweartoaweddingthe.com

Supplementing Your Dog With Glucosamine

Most people can’t help feeling inundated by the amount of choices available for dog food during their visit to the store. And to make matters worse, you can also be plagued with the endless list of ingredients in every brand, which most of us don’t even know what they are for. Perhaps some people can recall the word Glucosamine being printed in some of the labels. What is Glucosamine, and why is there a big hype about it in the media?

Maybe you have become aware of how Glucosamine has been proven to have a positive impact on people by watching the six o’clock news. Well, studies show that this amino derivative of glucose can also be a nurturing agent for your dog. Studies on human beings have shown improvement on bone structure and joints, especially with the elderly. Similar effects have been noticed on dogs. Joints have always been a weak spot for dogs, especially large breeds like German Shepherds and Great Danes.

Glucosamine is an amino derivative of glucose that occurs naturally in supportive tissues and plant cell walls. It is considered to be a dietary supplement said to provide for healthy joints and encourage the growth of joint cartilage. This supplement is the key to producing the lubricant liquids the joint needs to work smoothly, like a piston needs oil. Sources of this supplement include shellfish and fermented corn.

By lubricating your dog’s joints, he will be able to move easier, and even reduce the chances for arthritis. This is particularly true for larger breeds of dogs, such as German Shepherds and Great Danes. It is easy to notice how these dogs hurt their elbow joints by the amount of weight they put on them. Glucosamine has been tried on dogs suffering from joint failure with surprisingly fast and effective results.

Glucosamine can be administered in a number of ways. Today, many dog food brands offer delicious biscuits for your dog that include this supplement eliminating the need to feed pills to your dog. Including this dietary supplement within your dogs diet is a healthy bonus that can improve his health significantly, not to mention his quality of life. It is also unlikely, and perhaps unheard of, that your dog will suffer from any side effects by consuming Glucosamine.

So next time you find yourself standing in front of the store shelves, invaded by brands, ingredients and supplements, consider Glucosamine as a dietary supplement that can help your dog. This supplement is often found only in the more expensive, better quality dog food. However, it is always best to consult your veterinarian for proper dosage and recommendations for best results. Remember a great deal of follow up is required by the pet owner in order to provide the dog with the proper amounts during treatment, but also to take it down a level once the treatment is complete. From this point on you would want to keep your dog with a regular dosage on a regular basis.

At what age should a German Shepherd Puppy get neutered?

I have a 4 Month old german shepherd puppy, ive heared the some males get aggressive when their not neutered at what age should i got my puppy neutered?

(1)
It’s sad that only one of your preceding advisers is aware of the research into the side-effects of neutering at various ages – that’s [Dani]. Even sadder is that several vets are still unaware of it!

The likelihood of the bad side-effects occurring is in inverse proportion to the age at which neutering was done – meaning that the younger the pup when neutered, the more likely it is that one or more of them will affect it during its life.

The only people who NEED to neuter before a pooch is 11-15 months old are:
(1) Operators of rescue groups & SPCA shelters. THEY know that most people are liars, and so the only way to ensure that a pooch IS neutered is to do it BEFORE letting the pet go to an owner.
(2) People who should NOT have a pooch, because they don’t have fences & a security pen to ensure that their pet is safe.

• Add http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/The_GSD_Source to your browser’s Bookmarks or Favorites so that you can easily look up such as feeding, vaccinations, worming, clubs, weights, teething, neutering, disorders, genetics.
Then click Links => Neutering to see the 2 research reports.

(2)
Whether a pooch will be aggressive has almost NOTHING to do with whether it is fertile or neutered. It has to do with:
(1) The genetics of the litter.
(2) The nature of the dam.
(3) The nature of the pup chosen.
(4) The way the owner trains – or can’t be bothered training – the pup.

Your pup being 4 months now, #s 1-to-3 have already been done and cannot be altered.

The proper age for the final booster shots is 16 weeks, and YOU should be in a training-club class (forget pet-shop play-groups) that starts when Pup is 18-22 weeks old, so that an experienced instructor coaches you on how to be an effective trainer. A side effect of being in a class is that Pup learns to pay attention regardless of what other dogs & people are doing.

What age can a German Shepherd get a rabies shot?

We have a puppy and, we would like to know how old should she get a rabies shot. Thank you

Most localities require that all puppies have their rabies done by 4 months. If there are any questions, contact either your local animal control office or veterinarian of your choice.

Top Secrets to Training Your Dog and Becoming the Alpha

Dog training, particularly for feisty dogs like Jack Russells, can be quite intimidating. Some owners, in fact, either give up or don’t bother in the first place.

Don’t let that happen to you. Especially when there’s a solution that will cost you less than a week’s worth of dog food!

SitStayFetch is that solution. With a wide variety of real dog training experts and veterinarians behind it, this course is the real deal. You get everything from house-training information that works, to proper corrective and obedience training info.

Even better, the course doesn’t teach you rules that only apply to one kind of dog; in fact, they cover specific techniques for handling all kinds of breeds and specific dogs. Which is great for me, because information about dachshunds isn’t going to necessarily help me with my German Shepherd.

The book and course recognize the fact that it may be easy to correct, say, a Labrador Retriver. A stubborn Border Collie, on the other hand, is a completely different story!

Included in the course is the comprehensive SitStayFetch Training book; an interactive audio version of the course; great bonus books, particularly “Secrets to Becoming the Alpha Dog”; and something no other dog training course offers: a personalized e-mail consultation (more on this below).

Surprisingly, it doesn’t cost much at all for this: just $37!. On top of that, there’s a two-month money-back-guarantee, and I know there are no questions asked, so you won’t have a problem (but hopefully you don’t need to resort to this measure!).

The service, as well, is top-notch. For no extra cost, we were able to e-mail not one but two long, detailed question about our dog problem. You’re only entitled to one question, but the staff were so friendly that they voluntarily sent me extra information and answered my other question–completely non-related!

On top of that, within a day of each, we got a fantastic, thorough reply that answered specific questions about our German Shepherd, Rory.

For that reason alone, we highly recommend SitStayFetch. At $37, can you really afford not to learn how to properly train your dog?

German Shepherd Sickness

german shepherd sickness
dog sickness question?

I have a 5 month old German Shepherd puppy. Tonight I took him to my warehouse when I was doing some work. On my way back he threw up in the back of my cargo van. I think it is just the motion and noise the van makes, he is fine in my SUV. I have a 2 hour trip to the breeders house tomorrow and don’t have time to stop by the vets. Is there anything I can get for him that will help with that? Will he grow out of it?

You may want to try :::
Found this online—
Static grounding strap – A final remedy for carsickness. It works for pets and people – guaranteed. Attach a rubber strip to the bottom of the car. It must be long enough to hang on the ground, eliminating the static electricity while driving. I took a bungee cord. It works like magic.

I know people who give their pets Dramamine around an hour before they are to leave but you need to check with your vet first b4 doings this you must get the right dosage please do not try to dose on your own.

Also do not feed or give any water for 2 or more hours yu want nothing on their belly b4 a car ride. Also lots of air helps keep a window open or windows but not down enough your dog could junp out but enough to get just his head or nose out.

Hope this helps

Bloat Do You Know How To Spot This Common Dog Ailment?

Dog Bloat is a sickness that strikes millions of dogs without warning each year. It moves fast and without the proper diagnosis and treatment many dogs die.  The problem with dog bloat is that most dog owners do not know what symptoms to look for or how to respond if their dog visibly has symptoms.  This is an absolutely horrific and painful way to die, so join us as we discuss what bloat is and how you can learn to recognize and respond to the symptoms.

Bloat begins by causing an excessive amount of gas to build up in the stomach.  This causes the stomach to twist itself 180 degrees around and even a full 360 degrees from the esophagus down to the bottom of the stomach.  What this does is stop the blood flow to that part of the body and causes the tissue to die off.

This is where identifying the symptoms becomes crucial and demands timeliness.  Many specific breeds are known to have a bigger risk at developing bloat. Often they are larger breeds such as German Shepherds, Bloodhound, Great Dane, Akita, St. Bernard, Golden Retriever, Irish Setter and Doberman.

You may be thinking dog bloat is something that will never occur with your dog but statistics clearly show that bloat is the second leading cause of dog deaths and is second only to cancer!

There are many symptoms that may appear with bloat, so you will have to be diligent in observing you dog.  Start by looking for restlessness and anxiety.  Look to see if they are vomiting or have the dry heaves or even if they are attempting to vomit.  Are they whining, drooling, swollen abdomen, no digestive sounds or rumbling of the stomach?  Monitor their breathing for difficulty, increased heart rate and any weakness or collapsing.

Other factors that can influence dog bloat are your dogs age.  Older dogs tend to be more susceptible.  Underweight dogs, dogs that are hyper or anxious or dogs that are aggressive in nature are often prone to developing bloat.  So if a dog eats to fast or they skip a meal they potentially are more likely to develop dog bloat.  It is suggested that you spread their meals out to two or three small meals a day.

I personally believe in free feeding if it’s done correctly. A dog that is allowed to eat what they naturally need from the very beginning and is given a good quality food source will not overeat or eat like they are starving because they know the food source is always there for them to access. There is no need for them to pig out and eat it all in one setting when they can come back later and eat if they need to. I do want to point out that this does not work for all dogs and you may need to pick the bowl up if your dog overeats.

As we discussed above, if your dog has symptoms, you absolutely have to get them to the vets immediately.  Treating the dog bloat is the only chance at saving their life.  To treat the bloat, your vet will start by inserting a tube into the wall of the stomach.  This removes the excess gas.  After the gas is removed, the vet finishes operating on the stomach and untwisting it.

Should the dog continue to show signs of bloat following the surgery, then a second set of treatment procedures will be started.  These start with treating the shock symptoms your dog displays by hydrating them and allowing them to rest and treating any other complications that may pop up.

Because Doctors and Scientist have not actually come up with the exact cause of dog bloat, it is impossible to prevent.  However, since we do know some facts, you can implement a few prevention techniques.  Do not overfeed your dog or allow them to overeat in a single setting.  If your dog continues to overeat, then start giving them smaller amounts of food 2 or 3 times a day.

They do not recommend using elevated food or watering dishes and you should be adding enzyme supplements to your dog’s food to assist with digestion.  Limit their water intake right after they are finished eating.  Always keep your local veterinarian’s phone number hand and current for emergencies.

There is really nothing you can do to prevent bloat except to educate yourself and watch for the symptoms.  Then you will know how to diagnose and react should your dog ever begin to exhibit signs of bloat.

REMEMBER – Do NOT wait to get treatment for your dog!  This is the precious window of time that can save your dog’s life.  This is not the time to debate whether or not you want to pay for that vet call.  Acting promptly can save your dog’s life.
