how much to own a SchH 3 IPO 3 German shepherd. Which is better working line or show line.. and why?

A working line dog will give you a lot of performance (they are very energetic) but I would recommend that you get one only if you have a job for it i.e. you are a police officer and need a partner, or are involved in Search and Rescue, etc. A show line dog will have less “drive” and make a better family pet, but not as good a working partner as a working dog. Also, the show dogs (esp. American show) tend to have highly angulated rear ends and are prone to hip dysplasia.

A SchH 3 dog is one that is already trained and titled. It’s going to be really hard to get someone to part with such a dog. It will cost a lot of money ($2000-3000) range, and you will have to seriously prove that you will offer this dog a good home.

If you want to start in the Schutzhund, you might consider purchasing a puppy from a breeder with Schutzund dogs in it’s pedigree, and then getting involved in a local Schutzhund club that will help you out with training. That way when your dog makes SchH 3 someday, it will be as a result of your training and you can take lots of pride in that!

If you are looking for a personal protection dog, a lot of SchH dogs are useless in that regard. If there isn’t a sleeve to bite, they can get confused. You’d be best purchasing a trained dog from a reputable protection trainer and breeder.

i have a german shepherd is it pure bread?

i have a german shepherd her names sam and shes 2 months old
her fauther is a pure black american shepherd and her moms a pure white shepherd and aparantley their both german shepherds but i thaght to be a pure bread they have to look the same, so is my dog a pure bread yes or no?

Did you recieve AKC registration paper work from the breeder? if not then probably she is not 100% purebred.

There is no such thing as an American White Shepherd.

What there are are GSDs that are banned because they are white, and Yank dreamers who think that because they WANT them to be legitimised they WILL be legitimised. Unfortunately for the dreamers (1) AKC rules forbid recognition as a breed anything that is purely a faulted member of an existing breed, and (2) the USofA and Canada are not members of the FCI. See, the Swiss ARE members of the FCI, and at about the turn of the century Swiss fanciers of white GSDs persuaded their KC to re-register as Berger Blanc Suisse each registered white GSD that had ONLY registered white GSDs for at least 6 generations – no correctly-coated GSDs allowed in their pedigrees. And so the FCI has listed the BBS (see the “Provisionally Recognised” section at the bottom of the FCI’s breed-groups page), which means that every FCI nation recognises the BBS. But Britain, Canada, the USofA are NOT FCI members….

Okay, so in the USofA there are:
• correctly coated GSDs ranging from excellent to crap, and
• white GSDs ranging from okay to crap.

Which is better for YOU depends on:
(a) What you hope to do with your pet, and
(b) Who you get it from.

Apart from the 2 pairs of recessive alleles that block their follicles from pumping pigment into the hairs, they have the same gene pool. BUT
- people who are fanatics for banned colours ignore lots of important things – to them the COLOUR (liver, or blue, or white, or brindle) is what matters;
- people who are fanatics for correct GSDs won’t allow their studs to mate bitches that have banned coats.

So the breeders iof standard GSDs have access to the best collections of genes in the country. But breeders of whites have access to little mire than 5% of the gene collections in the country – and there is evidence that the stock available to them includes a high proportion of “bad” genes.. I’m told that a study that the BEST breeders of whites did about a decade ago shows that 1 in 4 of their stock had at least one problem other than colour. The study I have a copy of, done on standard GSDs in my country & using many more individuals than in the Yank whites study, showed something like 1 in 10 had a problem other than colour.

If you wish to show and breed, only the standard coats can gain AKC and CKC titles. Whites can’t even be registered as GSDs in Australia, Germany and elsewhere.
If you wish to do protection work, neither whites nor the NAmerican Ski-Slope Dogs found everywhere in NAmerica (winning as GSDs at Westminster etc) is likely to match up.
If you want just a pet, you could be satisfied by either (my group includes owners of all coats except the “Panda”s and brindles, I think) – but you have to be careful about WHO to get it from and WHICH ONE you get.

Click its Links tag, then scroll down to Defining_a_GSD and work your way through that. If a pooch can’t pass all the first 4 steps (better, the whole lot), it is NOT a genuine breed-worthy GSD.
