why is my german shepherd so unapproachable while on lead?

My shepherd is terrible while out on a walk. you can only get so close and then he goes into full attack mode. he’s been obedience trained and everything. i just don’t know how to get him over this fear of strangers. it is def fear because he’ll pop his anals and you can tell by his body posturing. help!!

dogs feel trapped , like they cant escape on leashes. so they go into full defend mode. their is really no easy way of breaking that, but what i did to help my dog is more socialization. i took my dog on walks in crowded city streets where their was to many people for him to focus on one. seemed to help. and for meeting people one on one, try telling your dog no in a commanding voice, and try to ignore the person, showing your dog you dont even care about it and their is nothing to be afraid of.

The following ideas will help prevent excessive aggressiveness in your dog. 1. Create a friendly training environment for your dog by allowing him to interact with your family and friends.

Socialize your dog with other dogs. Keep your dog’s away from aggressive dogs to prevent harm to your dog or adverse influences on his behavior.

Keep your dog on the leash and if necessary, shock him if he becomes aggressive.

Your dog will calm down in time as he learns to control his behavior to prevent discomfort.

It is important to proceed slowly and be patient as you work with your dog, because punishment will not help you train him.
