OK my german shepherd looks like this

She is pregnant with this german shepherd
http://www.geocities.com/norstar_k9/White_German_Shepherd.jpg
What are the chances of her having white german shepherd puppies
My dog parents look EXACTLY like her
If your dog carries a white gene, then each pup has a 50% chance of being white. If she doesn’t carry a white gene, then none will be white.
Because white shepherds were frowned upon in the breed standard for so long, many blood lines have bred out the white gene, but there are still some that carry it and those breeders just hid their white pups.
So I guess that’s a 25% chance of any white pups, unless you know that one of her parents was white or something.

Easiest and safest way to prevent fleas?
Two days ago my family and I adopted a pure-bred German Shepherd from a family member’s friend who is a breeder; We were told that if we put garlic in the puppy’s food it will prevent and/or stop fleas, is that true?
Additionally, are there any flea killers (like K9 Advantix) that won’t potentially cause seizures or any harm to dogs?
Garlic is in the onion family, and like onions is toxic to dogs. Some do use it in very small amount to “prevent” fleas but its not very affective. The best way to prevent fleas/ticks are products like K9 Advantix, Frontline, etc… If your dog is healthy, there really is a very low chance of your dog having an adverse reaction, and has a MUCH lower chance of causing problems than what fleas would cause. I would, however, warn against using the over the counter flea products such as Hartz because they have a higher chance of causing a reaction like chemical burns on the dog. They actually have a higher dose of the poison than the prescription products do.
ETA: Garlic will do nothing for worms. Dogs and cats get worms for either mosquito bites or from the feces of animals who have worms.

I want a name for my German Shepherd?
Blitzkrieg, because it a nice fun German k9 name (think police k9)
What can I name him on his AKC papers.
Blitzkrieg Von __________…..
or Blitzkrieg __________
14 minutes ago – 4 days left to answer
Excellent name I really like it. The second part would generally be his kennel name but if you get to choose how about
Blitzkrieg Von Ballard (German for warrior)
I was going to look for more….but I like that one

Dogs are one of the best friends of men. The loyalty and the friendship displayed by this canine are simply amazing. But the police use dogs for some other purposes; purposes which show that a dog can be much more than a mere loyal pet. They can be helping friend.
Service Dogs
Generally the term ‘service dog’ refers to dogs who has special qualities to assist the police in their investigations. Dogs equipped with service dog equipments are dangers to the criminals. Because of their natural smelling power, they can detect one object touched by the target person amongst many other similar ones. So it becomes easier to track them and to hunt them down. Service dogs are often called K9 unit. The word K9 is a play on the word canine, which is the biological family of dogs.
Breeds
Popular breeds of police dogs or service dogs are Argentine Dogo (protect the officer, attack dog, sniff out foodstuffs, bombs and drugs), German Shepherd (protect the officer, attack dog), Bloodhound (track down criminals, protect the officer, attack dog) etc. Most modern police departments own police/service dogs having their own service dog equipments.
Service Dog Equipments
Say you are a cop following your dog at night time. You and your dog are chasing down a criminal or looking for the hints or clues. Now it is very rare that when a service dog finds a trail, he will go slowly, waiting for his master! So the dog moves on and it becomes impossible to see him/her in the darkness. The case would be far worse if it were jungle. So there comes the solution of using service dog equipments such as k9 dog tracker or GPS dog collar.
Dog Tracker & Collar
Various kinds of trackers and collars are available today in order to protect your service dog and to find them even in the absolute darkness. The gadgets use different technologies based on a basic principle, which is to send a signal to an attendant when his dog is missing. These are great ways to help the attendant identify the dog and find him. One such device works on the principle that when the dogs are lost, the policeman presses a button on a small device on his hand to make another device come into life. The second device is associated with the dog, generally on his collar and when it comes to life, it emits an electromagnetic pulse that helps the first device to track it. There is also another great method where the collar of a service dog glows at night and helps the attendant to find it when lost.
Modern equipments and service dogs together are very good combination which can act against preventing crime and help make the world a better living place.

Neopolitan Mastiff?
Hi!
My husband and I own a two year old German Shepherd and are ready to add to our family. We have large breed experience and have been considering either an Irish Wolfhound or a Neo Mastiff. I already asked a similar question about the I.W. so now I ask…. Has anyone owned a Neopolitan Mastiff? If so, can you tell me about your experiences with the breed? Pros and cons? Know any breeders in the Ohio/Penn/W. Virginia area? Thanks!
to answer your question i HAVE researched the irish wolfhounds, but not the mastiffs yet. we just decided to consider them a few days ago, hope that helps!
It’s actually Neapolitan Mastiff and they are great dogs. The national breed club http://www.neapolitan.org/ has a fantastic site that they link to – the rescue group. http://www.neorescue.net/abouttheneo.php?PHPSESSID=0ce6c437d24d080f3a074c9eace831bc I’m not pushing rescue, it’s just that this site has real info on the breed and tons of great stuff.
They drool a ton, from bad breeders they can have some pretty serious health defects, and they are not incredibly active dogs as adults (unless pushed). They are also true mastiffs, meaning they are stubborn and thick headed.
They are very very different from an Irish Wolfhound. Have you done homework on the breeds yet? Other than both being big, they are polar opposites in many regards. Irish Wolfhounds are TRUE sighthounds.
They are active, have ahigh prey drive, and can never ever be trusted off leash. Extra special care needs to be taken with sighthounds because of their chase desire. A leash not held correctly and a cat across the street is a recipe for disaster.
They also tend to be very very sensitive to correction and punishment – and to medications and anesthesia.
Should you choose to call “mark” below, read this first: http://www.pbrc.net/breeding3.html so that you can recognize a good breeder. I didn’t see a “mark” on the breeder referral list, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not good. Just beware.
german shepherd golden retriever puppy
what size would a german shepherd golden retriever mix?
i have 2 puppies they are brothers. one was the first born of the litter the other one was the last born of a litter of 8. they are german shepherd mixed with golden retriever or the other way around ( idk if it makes a difference) idk wat parent was wat meaning was male german shepherd or golden retriever. ( idk if that made any sense. Im wondering what size they’ll be when they’re adults. btw they are both 4 months old.
Mutts don’t have standards.
NOTHING can be predicted about mongrels.

Are you wondering how to train your dog? Are you considering adopting a new dog in your house?
Well, if you are planning to get a new dog for your family, there are some issues that you should seriously consider.
First and foremost, you must understand that keeping a dog means a lot of added responsibility. Sure, we all agree how cute that Golden Retriever puppy is. And so is that German Shepherd puppy. In fact, probably all the puppies out there are really cute.
Because of that, you really want to adopt one. But getting a puppy means you are responsible for training it. Without the proper training, your puppy can grow up into an adult dog that ends up wrecking havoc in your house. You must be prepared to face these problems when if you want to be a dog owner.
Some common problems that dog owners will probably face with their dogs are barking, whining, digging, jumping, aggression, chewing and many more. Depending on the breed of your dog, the problems that you have to deal with will probably be very different.
For example, for small dog, it is probably not such a big problem if they are jumping on you. But for huge dog like Great Dane, jumping is certainly a big problem and can potentially result in injuries. Of course, I am not saying that it is alright for small dogs to jump. If your small dog keeps on jumping on your guests, you will still want to correct the behavior even if it doesn’t result in any injuries. It will still irritate your guests and embarrass you.
Of course, there are many other issues that you may need to consider if you are going to be a dog owner. One of them is obviously children. If you have children in your house, you will certainly want to choose a breed of dog that is gentle and patient with children.

german shepherd trained dogs
sloped backs on german shepherd dogs?
Why are their backs so sloped!! Is it just because their hind leg is in a position more out back? but if they put it more inwards they back is straighter? here is an example of a sloped back shepherd.
as you can see his hind right leg, if he brings that in will his back look straighter? is he just in that position because he is trained to “pose” in that position?
http://www.monroehaus.com/images/andrjuscha-v-13.jpg
why are they like that?
Does anyone know of a breeder that has west german bloodlines only without an exaggerated sloped back? I want him to look like this dog named Kaine. If you go on you tube her channel is hunkymonkeykaine (her breeder doesn’t breed anymore, but he has a straight back and he is beautiful!!)
i just don’t understand why a dog has to have such a sloped back?
I have been waiting my whole life for a german shepherd! I just want him to be my dream dog.
The dog in question is standing with one hind leg back because that is the way German shepherd dogs in the show ring are required to be stacked so they may be judged on their conformation. If you take a look at breeder websites or pictures of GSDs in the show ring, you will see that they are all stacked in a similar manner. It gives, some say, an image of an alert dog, ready to “spring into action”.
As mentioned, while the German shepherd does indeed possess a sloped back in a stacked position, and often times to the extreme in some lines, it actually does have a great deal to do with the WAY the dog is stacked. I have seen a German show line male in a UKC show and a SV show. Once he is stacked by his owner/handler in a way that made him appear elongated and sloped, and then he is stacked by a German judge, who made him look a bit like a hyena, with a roached (or “banana”) back. However, I have also seen the same dog training for Schutzhund and out of the show ring. His back is as straight as any’s and he’s a healthy, working dog, not at all “crippled”, as some may enjoy labeling all dogs in the show ring.
People can stretch out a dog, and even make them appear to be a “hock walker” or make them appear extremely roached or sloped. Believe it or not, it appeals to some judges in the show ring. The interpretation of the GSD breed standard has indeed gotten to a point where extremes seemed to be favored too often in the show ring, and some breeders, who may not be labeled as reputable, have chosen to cater to that and breed GSDs with an excessively sloped (or roached) back. After all, you most likely cannot stack a Rottweiler the same way you see some GSDs stacked, no matter how you position the dog.
The supposed purpose behind the “sloped back” is so the German shepherd dog may possess a far reaching, flying gait, in order to herd sheep all day. Unfortunately, that is only the purpose given by some judges and breeders, and in my opinion, not the true reason behind the sloped back, but more of an excuse. After all, herding dogs do not gait all day around the sheep, and a herding dog’s gait is more natural, even at that.
So while some dogs can be stacked in a particular way to make them appear more extreme than they truly are, others are, indeed, bred to have such an appearance to appeal to the judges in the show ring.
However, you will be able to find some excellent dogs among the West German show lines and American show lines that DO breed dogs with a stable temperament and sound structure. I do not believe any true reputable breeder would breed weak nerved dogs and favor the extremes. What is important is finding a reputable breeder you like and trust. There are those among every line of every breed whom are poor breeders, even if they show their dogs.
For example, take this dog. East German working lines, Ch. Galant z Pohranicni Straze SVV3. A z Pohranicni Straze dog, and standing stud at z Eurosportu. (http://www.eurosportk9.com/galant.asp# )
Here is a picture of him stacked.
http://www.eurosportk9.com/ourdogs/galant/galant30.jpg
He, too, seems to appear to have a sloping back when stacked in this particular way, and some may look at this in distaste.
However, here is the same dog
http://www.eurosportk9.com/ourdogs/galant/galant33.jpg
http://www.eurosportk9.com/ourdogs/galant/galant14.jpg
And when he is standing straight, he looses that sloped look and you can see he’s far from crippled.
If you are looking for West German show lines, then I’d like to add that it’s my personal belief that the Kirschental are perhaps one of the closest there is to the working German show line. Excellent dogs that are involved in SchH and HGH. They are a popular kennel, and you probably won’t have trouble finding kennels with Kirschental dogs among their breeding stock.
Or, if when you say, “west german bloodlines” you are referring to West German working lines as well, then I suggest you also look there. The West German working lines, you will find, are not bred with concerns for conformation first and instead, working ability. While you most likely won’t find any dogs there accused of having a sloped or roached back, some think they are “too much dog” for a person to own. I personally own two, one of which is a companion only dog, and find that they suit my needs for a pet wonderfully, but also respect the fact that there are others who won’t appreciate them for the reasons I do.
Again I say what is important for you is figuring out what you want in a German shepherd dog, and researching the breeders as well as bloodlines that you personally prefer, and then choosing a dog or breeder.

When looking for German shepherd training tips, you will surely be able to find a lot. You just need to remember that not everything will be effective though. This is due to the fact that regardless of being called “German shepherds” in general, each dog will still differ in terms of individual behaviors and inclinations.
Know that the correct training will have to start even before you lay your hands on the first training task at hand. So, do you have any idea how to approach the problem properly? If not, then there will be various avenues for help that you will be able to count on.
If you are new to the concept, it’s understandable that you will have certain questions that need to get answered first. Questions like how you start the training process or how to set the proper paces in terms of training will need to be answered first in order to guarantee affectivity in training as well as insure success.
One way that you will be able to easily establish long lasting good relationship with your pet is through positive reinforcement. Showing your dog that good deed will never go unrewarded is a good way to start the relationship in a right footing. Remember that dogs are intelligent creatures and positive reinforcement will help them establish proper behavior easily thus offering less resistance and making things easier for you.
Another technique that will help in making your training sessions more productive will be through the incorporation of fun and enjoyment. Remember that your German shepherd (or almost any breed of dog for that matter) is eager to please their masters and making the exercise more enjoyable will help smoothen out things greatly. Through this method you will find that incorporating activities into the various exercise will not only provide your dog with faster access learning but will also make the activity more entertaining and worthwhile.
Aside from what is mentioned above you will find more German shepherd training tips though informational portals as well as ebooks online. One site that has all of the techniques that you might be looking for would be German Shepherd Training Tips, so be sure to check it out when looking for additional tips and techniques.

german shepherd ohio
Can somebody in grove city ohio sell me a german shepherd or rottweiler for less than $200?
pure bread and healthy
This is not the classifieds. And if you are looking for pure “bread” try the bakery.

Long before winter’s blustery chill begins to sting the bones, plans are being made by people in Canada, the Northeast and Midwestern United States to seek the warmer climes of the south. It’s an interesting phenomenon that occurs each year and mimics the migration ritual of our feathered friends.
These “snowbirds” (as they are affectionately called) flock to Arizona, Florida and other places along the Sunbelt to avoid winter’s bite and inconvenience. Northern Europeans also are known to head to warmer places in the U.S., adding to these second communities of seasonal residents each year.
Snowbirds are typically retirees or business owners who can afford to be away for extended periods of time. Many have a second home in a warmer location, while others take their home on wheels with them in the form of an RV or camper.
Jack and Ethel W. have been making the trip for 18 years. Pulling out of their snow-banked driveway in upstate Ohio, their 28-foot Fleetwood Southwind RV is loaded with rations, lighter clothes than they would have needed had they stayed home, and Phantom, their four-legged, eight-year-old. That’s right, more and more people travel with their pets these days and snowbirds are no exception. The couple wouldn’t dream of leaving behind their special member of the family, a Lhasa Apso. He’s like one of their children. They’ll stay gone five or six weeks in southern Georgia, while taking several side trips to explore new places.
Rick S. pulls his 38-foot Prowler fifth wheel from Connecticut to Florida each year. His only passengers are Harley and Davidson, two 80-pound German shepherds who earn their keep by sharing “navigator” duties as Rick mans all the driving. He heads south in early November, not to return until mid-April. He enjoys the warmer weather fishing with his pals at his modest lake house until the last signs of the northern winter dissipate.
Traveling with pets long distances and for long periods of time presents challenges not only for snowbirds but also for the pets they take along. According to Dr. Mitch Spindell, site vet on PetTravelCenter.com, the first thing one should always consider is how physically able a pet is to travel. Some senior, pregnant, injured, or otherwise physically impaired pets do not travel well. Besides making sure your pet is physically fit and comfortable to make the trip, here are some tips to consider:
1. If your pet has any chronic conditions, take all pertinent medical records. It’s a good idea to have your pet’s records with you any time you travel long distances.
2. If your pet is on any long-term medications, be sure to have plenty to last your entire stay.
3. If you are driving north or south of the U.S. border, be sure to check all local regulations and have your pet’s current health certificates with you.
4. Establish a local vet in the area as soon as possible in case of emergency. Go to PetTravelCenter.com and click on Emergency Tips for more information.
5.Ask a local vet about any diseases or parasites that may be present in that part of the country (Lyme disease in New England or year-round fleas in Florida, for instance). Your pet may not be protected against these if they are not present where you live.
Just as your passengers’ safety is vitally important when you travel, don’t forget about your pet’s safety as well. As unrestrained 25-pound dog, for example, becomes a 1,000-pound projectile in a 40 mile-per-hour crash. This type of mass flying uncontrollably around a vehicle could be deadly not only to your pet but also to you and your passengers.
Look out for your precious cargo by providing your pet with a car seat equipped with a restraining device (for smaller pets) or a vehicle pet harness that is secured with a seat belt. Cats should be kept in a carrier suitable for traveling, also secured with a seat belt.
A travel tag on a pet’s collar will help someone locate you locally should you and your pet become separated. The travel tag should contain information about where you are staying (while away from home), including addresses and phone numbers. A cell phone number is also a good idea to have on the tag since most people have one with them, especially when they travel.
Another item to consider is a pet first-aid kit. It’s important that you are not only familiar with the items you pack in the kit but know how to use them.
So, as Anne Murray sings in the popular song, “Snowbird”:
“Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you
Where it came from on that day
…
So, little snowbird, take me with you when you go
To that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow…”
Happy travels!

german shepherd k9 training
Is it good to K9 train my german shepherd?
my german shepherd is still a pup but is it good to give him K9 training when he is older more specifically kinda like a police dog would be trained to get the bad guy.Is it a good thing or bad specially being a family dog?
You might be able to get a Police dog trainer to train your dog, but you will not have the same training as a Police dog.
You can train your dog for several different types of protection training, from Personal Protection to Schutzhund. It is not something you should try yourself unless you know what you are doing (and if you are asking here, you don’t). You can certainly hire a trainer (that is going to cost a lot of money) or you can train in Schutzhund through a local club (my suggestion).
There is nothing wrong with protection training with a stable dog and proper training. It does not make the dog vicious. But it is not as simple as training to bite. There is a lot of work that goes into it, including controlling the dog.
Not every dog is cut out for this type of training. It takes certain drives and solid nerves to make a good protection dog. Being a German Shepherd does not mean the dog will be suitable.
Miss K is right, we were refused home insurance from some insurance companies because we have a trained Police dog at our home. I am willing to bet a thousand dollars that our other dogs would bite before he would (and they will not bite), but because of his training, he is a liablity
Canine means dog, K9 usually refers to a law enforcement trained dog.

Schutzhund is the German word for working dog. It is specific training in obedience, tracking and protection. The breeds most commonly trained in Schutzhund are Dobermans, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and Belgian Malinois. These particular breeds are known for their intelligence and trainability. They are known to have a very high prey drive. They are devoted and fiercely loyal to their owner and this is an important trait for successful training.
Even within these breeds, some puppies in a litter will be better suited for this intense training than others. For a dog to excel at Schutzhund, certain temperament and personality characteristics are necessary. A puppy should be the leader of the litter. He should be bold in exploring and fearless when faced with new situations. To excel at Schutzhund trials, the puppy should grow to show intelligence, a stable temperament, strength, endurance and good physical structure.
There are three levels to Schutzhund training. For Schutzhund I, the dog must be at least 14 months old. Some of the requirements include, passing temperament testing by the judge, heeling on leash and off leash, and demonstrating walking sit, walking down, and stay. The dog must retrieve over a hurdle and follow a track put down at least 20 minutes earlier by his handler. Protection exercises are also practiced.
To compete for a Schutzhund II title, the dog has to be at least 16 months of age and has to have earned the Schutzhund I title. The dog must again complete all the tests mastered in Schutzhund I, but this time around, they are harder and more demanding. The dog must follow a track laid at least 30 minutes earlier, this time by a stranger. Greater endurance is needed. Protection training involves, chasing, biting, holding, release on command and holding the subject without biting.
For a working dog to earn a Schutzhund III title, the dog has to be at least 18 months of age. The dog must have earned the first two titles. All tests are done with the dog off leash. More is expected of the dog, for instance, he must be able to follow a track 50 minutes old, laid by a stranger and there are more objects for the dog to find. It requires great concentration and focus. Protection training is intensified.
This type of intense training is required for police K9 work, as well as military work, although there are some modifications in the bite work training. Schutzhund training and trials is a great sport for working dogs and their handlers. Expert training by a professional is necessary to teach an owner how to work with his dog. There are Schutzhund Clubs around the country where you can watch competitions and learn more about this challenging sport.

Do you have a MUTT???? Is so how was s/he during training?
I’ve only ever bought from a breeder, and the German Shepherd I’m getting are being imported from Germany for thousand!!! But that’s to be expected with their history, and the work I need him for.
But as for my experience with mutts they seem to not be training. Just speaking of course about the ones my neighbours or friends have? I do understand that it could be them not training it also.
Just wondering anyone have good training experiences with mutts?
Thanks
It will be 6months old, so it will know its commands in Germany and I’ve already been training her with the dogs at this kennel so I’ll be ready for my two puppies <3 can't wait!
PS_ this is response to "livin life" lol
Its around 3grand but I got a good deal because the kennel owner has history with the kennel in Germany and he's buying under his name and then I'm buying it from him. So I have about 2grand!
only a thousand bucks huh? thats cheap considering its coming all the way from Germany..will it know English commands?
Any dog can go thru training, and train well, not all dogs will catch frizbees. or do agility, but all can be trained to be good dogs, mutts included..I dont believe in name brands(pure breed) except fot show dogs, otherwise its just snobbery.

Having just brought a German shepherd puppy home, there are a few things that you need to know about this special four legged friend of yours. These dogs are very unlike all other dogs that you might have come across
They are not only swifter and smarter than the other dogs, but also more feral than their counterparts. Which means that they are more close to their natural ancestors than the other dogs and require extensive training
German shepherd is an unusual breed that follows the alpha traditions of the wolves. The German shepherd breeders say that these dogs believe in the custom of the pack and work in agreement with the principle of the pack
For every pack, there is an alpha dog and a beta dog and the rest of the dogs follow their commands in that order of preference
In order to train your German shepherd puppy in a proper German shepherd way, you will have to claim the position of an alpha dog
This will result in the puppy obeying your command as well as provide an opportunity for you to build a better relationship with him
German shepherd puppies often try to claim the position of the alpha. Therefore, it is advisable to go about the tough way to train them and remind them of their position in the pack
Hence, it is favorable to use the carrot and stick method, which involves appreciating your puppy when he gets things right and also using the lease method to make sure it accepts your authority
This just indicates that you need to be cautious about your training methods and does not mean that you need to be harsh on your dog
During your German shepherd dog training period, it is important to ensure that your little pup gets treated as the beta dog
This is to say that, in your absence, if there are other dogs in the house, you have to make sure that the German shepherd gets to take care of them as the beta dog of the pack
Doing this will make him feel that he is an authoritative position and will also obey your command
Training your puppy right away is advisable as it becomes very difficult to train an adult German shepherd who keeps trying to defy the authority of the alpha of the pack by disobeying repeatedly

Is Liam a good dog name?
For a German Shepherd?
i’m having my puppy imported soon and i picked out the name LIAM which means “determined protector”
good or bad name?
any better suggestions?
I really like Liam. One of my favorite book character’s name is Liam. German shepherds need good names like that, so, two thumbs up!

What breeder looks better for a german shepherd dog?
http://www.lebenshunger.com/index.html
I saw a customer with a gsd from this breeder and it was amazing. It was very friendly, it let me pet it after it smelled my hands. The owner said it is the best dog, and it goes every where with him. This breeder is in Maine. He said they are imported from Germany and he has been breeding for 15 years. Also, you put 900 dollars down before they are born then 900 after. Total is 1800
Another one which looks good, although i don’t know any customers is this one. http://www.brownhillshepherds.com/ The parents are show dogs and it shows them with ribbons, they charge 1200 for a dog. This one it looks like you get more for your money
Can you guys take a look at each of the link and tell me what you think.
Thanks
OK, reading the other posts, I’m going to totally change what I said.
I’d say look for other breeders.
(1) The credit card / paypal thing is suspicious
(2) If working dog prizes can be bought they aren’t worth anything
(3) The extreme back slant is bad news. Both breeders you suggest seem to have it (the second more than the first if you go through the photos section). Don’t encourage breeding this into show dogs by rewarding it financially.
And I don’t know where you live, but please consider GSD rescue. Google “german shepherd rescue” to find one near you, or go here:
