If you find a well-balanced GSD in a shelter or are confident you can work with its problems, they will make an excellent pet and I would definitely recommend you choose to adopt if possible!

You shouldn’t buy a German Shepherd/Labrador x from a *breeder* – it will have been either an accidental litter which means you can’t guarantee the health of the puppies or will have simply been bred to make fast cash. There are already millions of crossbreed dogs dying in shelters and you shouldn’t give your money to somebody who is breeding more – ESPECIALLY if they call their dogs Labrador Shepherds or German Labradors, Alsatiadors or any other ridiculous designer cross breed name. They are breeding for money and may have bred animals susceptible to health disorders or with unpredictable temperaments. If you want a German Shepherd, Lab cross visit your local shelter and find a cross breed – don’t buy a puppy. There are plenty of Lab and GSD crosses in shelters, but don’t expect to know whether your particular dog is an exact cross of Lab and GSD – you will never know!

Also, don’t choose a dog because of their cuteness or good looks! The German Shepherd is a beautiful dog but they are highly intelligent and will not live quietly as a *pet* alone – you will need to work them or involve them in competitive obedience or agility classes to truly keep them happy, they are not simply a dog, they are a real part of your family! A german shepherd needs lots of exercise and stimulation and you should take this into account when deciding if the breed is right for you.

Labradors and German Shepherds are highly popular breeds – so if you choose a puppy of either breed take care to find a responsible breeder or you will get a sickly dog prone to health disorders.

Do it over and over until he can back and attack just by hearing your ‘attack’ command.  

Be as gentle as you can during this training. Don’t be harsh or use any force. Just help the dog to bring out his natural aggression and protective ability. Remember advanced attack training is for professionals. It could backfire on you if you try it.

I posted another question and someone has really put me off, saying that a cross breed gets all the bad traits of both breeds…is this true!? And why would that happen!? Mum and dad are both loving family pets, friendly and well trained – so why would their puppies be bad news, just because they happen to be cross breeds?!

I had a pure bred German Shepherd dog before, I never ever want to replace him, so thought I’d go for a cross breed Shepherd, so I could still get the Shepherd traits, but in a different physical form (it’s a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross). I am paying a token for the dog to ensure I am serious, but I now feel put off, by someone saying there are no guarantees with cross breeds, so I should steer clear.

No whoever said that lied. It’s not true that the offspring will get all the bad traits at all! That would put me off too. The offspring will either get recessive or dominant or both genes from the parents. and who knows which one is bad???? lol

but don’t pay attention to whoever said- go out and get your puppy! he (or she) will be GREat!!!!!
