Electric Dog Collar

Once you have understood that electric dog collars are gentle and humane dog training tools, your next step is to choose the right electric collar and learn the right way to use it.

These are the main things you have to remember in choosing an electric collar:

  1. The range of the static should be adjustable. Dog shock collars have dials or buttons for changing the intensity of the static shock released. There should be a wide range to make sure that you get the right level for your dog. You should be able to turn it up or down depending on your pet’s reaction.
  2. Collar length should be adjustable. The dog collar should be adjustable to make sure your pet is comfortable with the collar around his neck. It should not be too tight or too loose.
  3. The dog collar width should not be too thick. Thick collars are uncomfortable for your pet. As you know, dogs don’t sweat. If the collar is too thick, it would be like your dog is wearing a scarf around his neck and this will cause him discomfort and he might attempt to get the collar off.
  4. Get an electric collar that is lightweight. A heavy collar can cause discomfort to the dog or may make them feel like their on a leash or tied down. Make sure that the shock collar you get is light.

With those requirements, you also have to consider the size, breed and age of your dog. A puppy will definitely need a milder training collar compared to a full grown dog. A Chihuahua will most definitely require something smaller and lighter compared to a German Shepherd or a St. Bernard.

So, after buying the right electric collar for your pet, you have to make sure you use it right. At first, you may want to test it on yourself to check the intensity of the static shock. Next, adjust the level of static based on your dog’s reaction. Never let your dog see you with the remote to avoid making him associate the shock to you holding it. Once you’ve reached a level of static that elicits a reasonable reaction, like confusion or a mild shake of the head, this will tell you that your dog has felt the buzz from the collar. Just remember to correct the unwanted action at the exact moment your dog performed it so he can associate the action to the static. Once your dog learns not to perform the unwanted action, you can stop using the shock collar and go back to a regular one.

An electric dog collar comes in handy in training your dog to be the lovable pet he’s supposed to be. With this collar, you can prevent him from destroying your or your neighbors’ garden and chasing after other animals in the neighborhood. Once he’s trained, even your neighbors will love your pet.

do prong collars help with aggressive dogs?or an agressive female german shepherd?

she’s good with people but not with other dogs besides ours. i can’t afford a dog trainer because i’m just a teen. need help

No, it will most likey make things worse – don’t take her around other dogs until you can afford to go to training and learn how to properly train the dog. If you are a teen, you should have adults responsible for the dog and they need to pay for you or them to train the dog so the problem doesn’t escalate.

What are some head strong games to play!?

Ok sooo I got a head strong dog(german shepherd/Rottweiler/pit bull/timber wolf mix! So what are some hard core games and toys for my dog! ANSWER PLEASE THIS DOG RIPES STUFFED ANIMALS SO X THAT OF LIST LOL!!!!!!! :)

Destructive dogs aren’t bad dogs – they just need jobs.

You could make a makeshift agility course for your dog and start him on that kind of training – it requires physical exertion, mental involvement, and obedience (which is key with such a big, strong breed mix – I’m interested to know where the timber wolf came from…). Or better yet, find a public agility training facility, or maybe you know someone who has a course…

You could try your hand at training him to track things, or search for hidden objects (like a police dog).

The key is mental involvement, though, whatever you decide to do – my guess is the dog has pretty boundless energy. With a dog like that, he won’t get tired unless his brain is working as hard as his legs are.

As much energy as he probably has, you could probably teach him some pretty cool tricks. But make sure you’ve got the basic “sit” “down” and “stay”, and make sure you’ve got good recall (comes when name is called). If you start them running around w/o good recall, they start having fun without you and then don’t come back when you call them.

Also, no matter how many people tell you to, don’t play tug-of-war with a dog like that – they’re probably stronger than you and will win almost every time, and it gets to be a dominance game, and you don’t want the dog thinking he’s alpha over you. That’s the other key with big dogs – human=pack leader (thank you, Ceasar Milan)

Advanced Dog Training Tips

State-of-the-art Dog Training

A lot of canine owners have taken their dogs and companions for elementary canine education. Then again, it is typically not adequate for some canines. With a clicker, a device that has a button that tends to make a clicking noise is utilized to instantly let the canine know the she or he did some thing optimistic and correct. That is a form of optimistic reinforcement and it has rapid outcomes. Right after the clicker is pressed, the dog is then provided a deal with. This treat doesn?t have to be a thing fattening, it could possibly even be many of the dog?s typical foods offered in smaller helpings. To embark on the clicker-training plan, you?ll require a plastic clicking device; which can be obtained at any pet shop. It?s most beneficial to possess expert guidance to create positive that you are working with the system the right way.  Listed below are some essential guidelines to maintain in brain when working with the crate superior dog-training technique:

1. Hold the foods concealed until soon after you make the click. This can ensure that your dog isn?t accomplishing the reward for the food instead of the click.
2. In the event you do not prefer to use a clicker, you are able to use hand movements or even a flashlight alternatively. This can be particularly practical for deaf canines. Numerous white canine breeds are vulnerable to deafness which includes Dalmatians.
3. If the clicker frightens your canine, attempt using a pen that has a retractable point. Merely push down around the plunger along with the canine will hear the click.

German Shepherd Dvds

german shepherd dvds
Can someone help me translate some words to German?

I just purchased a Fully trained German Shepherd Dog from Germany. The problem is the packers packed up the manual and dvds and he only understands German. I looked at 2 different sites and some of the words did not come up the same.
I already know a few commands but here are some more

Get it
Heel
Gaurd
Jump
Let go
stay
No
Um, Sorry I have no idea how to pronounce those words.

I’m sorry, but Paul’s Neurologist’s answers are nonsense!

Some very common commands for dogs are:
Apport! (up’port) – Get it!
Hier! (heer)
Sitz! (sitts)
Platz! (plutts) or: Down!
Bleib! (blibe) – Stay!
Aus! (ous) – Let go!
Bei Fuß! (by foos) – Heel!
Nein! (nine) – No!
Auf! (ouf) – Let’s go!

Ten Habits of Internet Millionaires

All the successful internet millionaires out there (and there are a lot) have many things in common with each other. They share many similar character traits – one of them being a determination not to fail. But they also share many common practices which help to make them the successful online businessmen that they are.

Here are 10 things all successful internet millionaires know which have helped them achieve the phenomenal success they have enjoyed to date.

1. Social networking

This is linked to point number two. Linking to your site and blogging about it helps with SEO. But also, it helps to tell people about your site, your product and your services. Giving away free information on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube will help to build your reputation and instill confidence in your potential customers. Be sure to keep your networking fresh, up-to-date and relevant to your site and product.

If you don’t want the hassle of writing your own tweets and blogs you can hire someone else to do it for you. There are plenty of people out there who are very adept at writing and finding articles to publish on your blogs and will do it for a relatively small fee. You could try elance.com, rentacoder.com and craigslist.com. You can write an advert and place it on these sites for free.

2. Search Engine Optimisation

A lot has been written about keywords, tags and site content with regards to Google and how it works. The bottom line is that Google is so complex in the way that it searches the internet that it’s difficult to fool it into liking your site. But here are a few key points to be aware of if you want your site to appear higher in a search.

a Original content is good. Don’t copy and paste too much from other people’s sites. Google recognises when there is repeat content and will not give your site any value if it looks like it’s simply a replica of someone else’s site or a duplicate of one of your own. Be original. Even if you use other people’s material, re-write it to read differently so that Google can’t identify it as duplicate content. Of course, plagiarism is out of the question so be sure that you are not ’stealing’ someone else’s work and that anything you use has copyright permission attached.

b Use long-tail keywords in the tags of your website and in the content. Long tail keywords are more like phrases or sentences. So, for instance, one could search for ‘dogs’ on Google and that would result in millions of sites coming up in the search. However, if someone were to search for ‘how to train a German Shepherd’ that’s going to yield much fewer sites in the search which will increase the chances of your site getting further to the top. The trick is to find the right balance between specific keywords and quantity of users searching for that particular keyword. Too many and you’ll have too much competition, too few and you simply won’t get enough hits. Google’s keyword tool can be found by clicking on the link in my signature box below.

c YouTube videos. YouTube is great at generating traffic. If you can upload videos to YouTube to promote your product it should help greatly in increasing your search engine optimisation (SEO).

d Backlinks – that is links from other sites to your site, help with SEO too. Google likes sites which have backlinks to them. The easiest method for achieving this is to create Blogs, which are free, and to link to your site from those blogs. Twitter is also a good way of creating backlinks by tweeting your URL every so often – be sure it’s not too often or Twitter will shut you down as a spammer. The rule is, any site which has a link back to your site will increase your SEO, so the more people you can get to link to it, the better.

e Activity. Be sure to keep your blogs and other websites updated frequently. Google knows when there is activity and will promote sites that are active. Do a search on google and you’ll see that the ones reaching the top ten are sites which are constantly being updated with ads, blogs, forums, videos etc.

3. Target Advertising
Know your market and aim your pitch to only those people who may be interested in your product. Google ads, facebook ads and content ads – those placed directly onto people’s websites are good sources of advertising. Google ads use keywords used in the search engine to drive traffic to your site. You would do well to research what keywords to use in the copy of your site by using the keyword search tool provided free by Google.

Facebook uses its users profiles to target your ads. You can choose people’s interests, marital status, age, country etc to decide where you want your ads to appear. You can choose pay per click or pay per view for both of these methods.

The content ads are usually a deal struck between the advertiser and the owner of the website. This can be a percentage of sales or a flat-rate fee. The advantage is that you are advertising on a site where you know people already have a specific interest in the kind of product you are selling.

4. Create a great sales page
Your sales page is the all-important part of your online selling strategy. If this doesn’t work, visitors will simply leave and never come back. This is your moment on someone’s doorstep, or standing at the market stall. Everything you say here should be concise and to the point. Three key points to a successful sales page are:

a. Identify a need. Be sure that you know what need your product meets and make it clear to the visitor that their need is your concern. Identify that need. Highlight the need. Emphasise the need. Sometimes, people don’t even know they have a need for your product until you show them. Creating the awareness for need of your product is the first step in selling it.

b. Explain the benefits of your product. How it can make a difference to someone. How rapid and how massive the results can be. The key here is to get across the message that the visitor couldn’t possibly do without your product and that their life will be changed for the better if they buy it. Your product should be presented as being essential to meeting the need you have already identified.

c. Clearly state what your product is, how much it costs, where to download it or when it will be sent and always give a money-back guarantee. Nothing puts someone off buying more than lack of clarity or information. You need to keep them confident in your service as well as your product. The money back guarantee is another way of instilling confidence and hardly anyone will take you up on it – especially if your product is good.

d. Give away a free bonus. This will give the visitor a reason to proceed further and investigate. It’s a sprat to catch a mackerel. You sacrifice your free product with the intention that once you have them hooked you’ll be able to reel them in. Make sure your freebie is of good quality and is relevant to the product you are selling. If they find that your free bonus is of poor quality, they are hardly likely to pay money for anything else you’re offering.

There’s no substitute for great copy. Be sure that your sales copy is dynamic and to the point. If you have the cash, then pay someone else to write the copy for you. Or you could trawl the internet researching sales pages by some of the top entrepreneurs and simply copy their copy. All you have to do is adapt it to your product. The all important thing is that you enthuse the visitor and capture their imagination so that they will want to know more.

5. Build your mailing list.
They key to an ongoing, successful business is a good mailing list. Good doesn’t necessarily mean ‘big’. It’s more important that the people you have on your mailing list are relevant to the product you are selling. For instance, you don’t want to be trying to sell a book on weaning babies to a pensioner – hardly like to make any sales there. So how to do go about building a list of people you KNOW are interested in your particular product?

Create and Opt In Page, Landing Page or Squeeze Page (they’re just different terms for the same thing). This is also known as the sales page. This is where you promote your product and ask the visitor to give you their contact details – their first name and email address is enough. Two ways you could do this:

a. Offer to give something away for free. Usually a free report – this can even be an article you’ve found on EzineArticles.com. Be sure that you include the author and source of the report, it’s not legal or moral to take someone else’s work and pass it off as your own. When your visitor knows that they will get something of value for free in exchange for their contact details they are more likely to comply.

Once they have opted-in you can then send them to a thank-you page where you ask them if they are interested in purchasing your product. This is where your big promotion is done. You’ve already given them something for free, now you want to know if they want to buy something. Even if they don’t this time, you have them on your mailing list so you can remind them of your product at a later date.

b. Sell your product, offer a free gift and ask for their contact details all at once. This is the preferred method for most online entrepreneurs. A sales pitch can read something like ‘A great product worth $197 being offered today for only $29.97. Plus a free bonus worth $100 if you buy today. Just enter your details here to find out more’.

It’s pretty much the same scenario in a slightly more compact package. Both are effective.

If you are concerned about how you can get all this functioning there are two great services you can use. One is called Getresponse.com and the other is Aweber.com. Both provide automatic emailing to your mailing list as well as providing you with all the necessary tools for linking your site to their service, and all very easy to use. You will use this service to create follow up campaigns to sell further products and to provide your mailing list with useful information to maintain your relationship with them.

6. Leveraging YouTube
Videos are easier for people to take in information they also increase SEO (search engine optimisation) with Google. Google owns YouTube so the link between the search engine and the YouTube website couldn’t be more efficient. It is a known fact that a link from YouTube to your website increases search engine optimisation which means that your site appears higher up in the Google search.

The kind of videos you upload to YouTube is entirely up to you. You could create a promo video for your product with PowerPoint presentation and a simple voice over. Or you could just set it to music (be sure the music is royalty-free or you could get sued).

Another kind of video is one where you talk to the camera. These can be quite effective if you have a natural, camera-friendly presentation style. It can help to create trust in your audience since they have a face to put to the name.

Any other YouTube videos connected to your site will help to create traffic. The YouTube audience is massive and growing daily.

Another way of leveraging YouTube is to find a video which has already gained popularity and ask the owner of that YouTube account if they would put a link to your site from their YouTube page for a small fee. You can generate a lot of traffic this way and it’s a lot cheaper than pay-per-click advertising.

7. Affiliate Marketing
There’s probably not one internet entrepreneur out there who hasn’t been or isn’t currently engaged in some kind of affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is a way of making money by promoting other people’s products. Quite often these are e-books, DVDs or mp3s. You don’t need to own these products or even create a product of your own. With affiliate marketing it’s a simple as finding an affiliate product then promoting it – literally, just telling people about it.

A great place to start your affiliate marketing is with an online service called Clickbank. This is an online marketplace where thousands of e-books are sold daily. People who have created products upload them to Clickbank and allow other users to sell them for a percentage of the profits – sometimes up to 75% – yes, you get to keep 75% of the sales of each product sold.

There are many ways to promote other people’s products online – YouTube videos, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace etc. Any time someone clicks on your ‘Hop’link – supplied by Clickbank, they are taken to the sales page of the product but any sales generated will be allocated to your affiliate program and the payments are automatically made to your clickbank account.

It’s as simple as that. No expertise, no technical jargon – just find something you like and tell people about it.

8. Create Joint Ventures
Promote other people’s sites and products in exchange for them doing the same for you. This is something to consider once you have something which you know can be of worth to another marketer. For instance, you may have created a big list of contacts and you may offer to promote his product to your list in exchange for him doing the same for you.

Another example of joint ventures is when someone promotes their product on their website in exchange for you doing the same. Sometimes this may be a no-money exchange or other times a percentage of sales can be agreed between the two parties.

Often, marketers who have enjoyed a certain measure of success may get invited to speak at another marketers seminar. This is usually a free opportunity with the gain the one hosting the seminar gets a free speaker and the one speaking gets a free audience.

9. Follow-up marketing (upselling)
Once you have had someone show an interest in your product or service you should keep in constant contact with them. Send them free reports, links to great websites, news items related to your subject of interest. Now and then, you should send them news of a new product. Many sales are made after the initial contact has been made. On average a customer only becomes a customer after they have received 7-10 emails from you, so don’t take a ‘no-sale’ at the start to mean that they are not interested. They just need help in making up their minds.

If your first product is cheap – let’s say an e-book, on sale for $10. Your second product could be more expensive – perhaps the same book as an audiobook going for $30. You may then create a course of DVD seminars on sale for $200. If your customers liked your first product they will be more than inclined to purchase any further products from you. So keep thinking, keep creating and keep promoting.

10. Publishing Articles
Articles create backlinks to your site and help promote interest. Online article services like EzineArticles.com publish hundreds of thousands of articles on all kinds of subjects. These articles are available to download for free. Where they can help your business is that you can put the URL for your website into the article and it automatically generates code which search engines like and can increase traffic to your sales page.

Be sure to keep the links to a minimum or your reader may get fed up with the hard sell. After all, they want to read an article not an advert. The more information you are willing to part with for free, the more your potential customers will trust you and want to buy from you.

The more articles you write and publish, the more people will read them and the more traffic you will generate to your sales page or website, and the higher up the search in Google or Yahoo your website will sit. Articles are a very good way of promoting your online business.

AND THE ELEVENTH HABIT?
Never, never, never give up. Success comes through a lot of hard work and determination. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t achieve overnight success. Be persistent and never doubt that can do it. No entrepreneur ever achieved anything

what age should i breed my german shepherd?

I have a 7 month old german sheperd can i breed her.

2 years old and a vet check up to date on all shots and free of worms before breeding…make sure the male you pick to breed her to is smaller than her and is vet checked up to date on all shots and free of worms too…another thing if they are kennel club registered make sure the male and female have no relative to relative breeding in them…healthier pups if no relative to relative breeding in the bloodlines…

Four Guaranteed Steps To Crack German Shepherd Aggression Problems

German shepherds are handsome dog breeds, but German shepherd aggression may come up with absence of correct German shepherd training. In fact, this can be a serious problem in many canines. As early as six weeks of age, they can become aggressive since this is a critical point in time in which they meet other dogs and strangers.

German shepherd aggression problems can be attributed to a lot of things and they should not be ignored nor tolerated. Nevertheless, despite their intimidating features, German shepherds are eager to learn and can be easily trained when they are in the right hands. The sooner the training is started, the greater the chance for them to become well mannered and great family dogs.

What triggers German shepherd aggression?

Genetics and heredity are known to be contributors of German shepherd aggression as well as with other breeds of canines. German shepherd dogs have a high tendency toward hostility. However, this does not apply at all times.

Some German shepherd dogs become destructive and intense due to past traumatic experiences. They may be abused by their previous trainers while they are still young. Any undesirable treatment and bad environment may aggravate their harshness to other dogs and people.

Lack of socialization is also a contributing factor for German shepherd aggression. Being sociable by nature, these canines interact with their mothers and siblings, their littermates, during their first two months. When they are separated from their families, they tend to develop aggressive behaviors and eventually become distrustful to new animals and human beings.

German shepherd dogs believe in the pack culture. They look for someone to become their Alpha dog. Once their owners miss to establish leadership during puppyhood years, these animals may do everything as they please because they are not directed appropriately.

Certain diseases or ailments may also contribute to German shepherd aggression. When they experience sickness, it may cause them discomfort, thereby turning them into violent canines. Therefore, routine check-up with a veterinarian is recommended.

Since German shepherd aggression can be dangerous and even life-threatening, here are five guaranteed steps to stop this problem now before it’s too late:

Step one: German shepherd aggression can be avoided by German shepherd training your canine at a young age, whether through verbal commands, hand signals, or other methods. Younger German shepherd puppies are easier to train than the adult ones because they have the greater capacity to learn quickly.

Moreover, older German shepherd dogs tend to become heavier and their actions may be hard to control. Remember to treat the animal with gentleness and affection during the entire German shepherd training procedure to build their trust in you. Another thing, do not eliminate the Shepherd puppy from its litter mates until they reach the 8th week.

Step two: Become your German shepherd’s leader while he is still young. One of the best ways to prevent German shepherd aggression issues is for you to set the rules and boundaries and be consistent at all times. Start with one-word commands like sit, stay and heel, and proceed to the more difficult level as he improves.

If your German shepherd is about to German shepherd bite or is German shepherd jumping on other people, say “No” to him firmly and let him sit and stay. If he complies, praise him madly and pat him on his head. Offer him treats so that he will link rewards with obeying your commands.

Step three: Allow the German shepherd puppy to interact with other canines and people. Make him get used to a new environment. German shepherd aggressive behaviors such as German shepherd biting, German shepherd nipping, German shepherd gnawing and German shepherd barking may be the animal’s means of self-defense.

Walk the German shepherd frequently in public places and let him play with other dogs. Retain a regular feeding schedule. German shepherd obedience classes are also good venues for him to exercise his social skills.

Step four: Because German shepherd aggression may result from abusive treatment, any form of punishment such as yelling, hitting, slapping, paddling and others are discouraged. That is why trainers should have extra patience in dealing with this type of breed.

When your German shepherd displays faulty acts, saying “No” and “shhh” when he barks loudly without being violent are preferable ways to make him behave as you wish.

Eliminating German shepherd aggressive behaviors as early as possible can save both animal and human lives. Well behaved German shepherds make the owners at ease and feel safe everywhere they go. If German shepherd aggression concerns persist, consult a professional dog trainer immediately.

Which dog is scarier?!?

Based on looks alone, which dog do you find more visually intimidating? A full grown Boxer or a full grown German Shepherd?

Remember it is looks alone!

For those of you who dont know ….this is a boxer…

http://www.petcity.gr/images/products/boxer.jpg

this is a german shepherd…

http://www.mydogneeds.com/dog-groups/herding-dogs/german-shepherd-dog.jpg

Thanks

Based SOLELY on looks, I’d say the German Shepherd looks more intimidating.

However, I know several dogs of both breeds, all of which are happy-go-lucky doofuses, so I tend to associate the images of these breeds with those dogs, which are anything but scary. :)

What Are the Simple Solutions of Managing Your Aggressive German Shepherd

How you can Take Control of Your Aggressive German Shepherd

Having a hostile, aggressive German Shepherd is one thing you might have to manage when you have made a decision to obtain this kind of breed. Usually, these dogs were helpful for herding, and that’s why, shepherds are traditionally accustomed to getting the best choice and may generate intense, leadership qualities.

You will need to utilize continuous socializing and education that is firm in order to keep your German Shepherd from turning overly aggressive.

Aside from being a herding dog, there are other reasons why you have an aggressive German Shepherd. One reason can be that the dog is scared that you’ll take away their food or toys and games. Often times, this breed of dog gets hostile in order to protect himself through recognized risks, for instance some other puppies.

This kind of dog also has a tendency to “secure” their territory. At times, he might seem to be much more intense due to being in discomfort from a medical problem or even an injury.

For those who have changed or moved from home, you may well be amazed to learn you dog a lot more aggressive than normal. This tends to occur when your pet is on-edge and up against unusual routines.

You can find three various phases of your hostile, aggressive German Shepherd and also knowing that time your dog is in will help you find out how to deal with the situation. These kinds of stages consist of early on aggression, past due stage aggression as well as complicated violence.

Early aggression happens when your pet suddenly stops paying attention to commands you know that he knows about. Your dog can be on the early aggression phase any time he seems to be bossy and wants attention simply by whimpering or maybe nudging an individual.

Whenever your dog disturbs a person and also loved ones at a meal simply by staring, sitting at the foot or perhaps seeking meals or when your dog get stressed, growls when you come close to him or protects toys as well as furniture, he is in the early stages of aggression.

When your unfriendly, aggressive German Shepherd’s behavior gets worst and includes snarling or perhaps deep barking along with his top of the teeth bared, this is really past due stage pre-aggression.

When he attacks yet leaves the skin unbroken or perhaps barks, switching his tail backwards and forwards along with erect ears, these are features from the overdue period pre-aggression as well.

Advanced violence is when the German Shepherd really attacks a person and may chew to the extent your pores and skin breaks. What will you do when your relatively safe little puppy abruptly gets to be more aggressive? First thing you have to do will be spot the change in habits in the very early stages of his violence.

Typically don’t wait until the problems get worst. Rather, re-assert the dominance as well as your management and let your canine know that you’re boss.

Then, you have to get your dog out there to do some exercise if you have not necessarily been achieving this recently. It is the reason the German Shepherd has extensive energy and when you do not give an outlet for this excess energy, exactly what might happen is always that their outlet could lead to an aggressive German Shepherd.

Keeping these types of factors in mind, you could end up with your dog remaining the non-aggressive dog he or she was previously.

Training German Shepherd Puppies

training german shepherd puppies
How should I train my German Shepherd puppy?

Like some good techniques. He is almost 8 weeks old, and he lives in the backyard in his doghouse

Simple answer, patiently.

Long answer:

Constant stimulation.

If your puppy still needs shots:
Having friends over and introducing your puppy to new people in a controlled environment. Correct behavior while he’s small. Barking, jumping, growling (probably won’t be doing this yet) on guest.

You can start off with the basics – sit, down, come. Associated with all these words should be release phrase. i.e. sit should be a sit until I release you. For my german shepherds release phrase is “lease.” Try not to use words like , okay and good.

Depending what you’re training your dog for or if you have kids one important exercise I like to do with my puppies is “never bite the hand that feeds you.”

I’ll put a bowl of food in front of my puppy. Once the puppy starts to eat it I will put my hand in the bowl. Play with the food while eating. Take the bowl away and put it back. I’ll do an exam, like one given by the vet. Pull gently ears, tails, and legs. If the puppy shows any type of aggression/domination I’ll correct it. Be careful not to get bit by accident from the puppy being exited by food.

If your puppy has shots:

Take him out for long walks. Take him to petco/petsmart. Take him for walks along busy streets, contrsuction, etc. My favorite place to take my puppy is Home Depot. Be watchful, though. People are going to want to pet the puppy. Make sure they ask and only if the puppy is calm.

German shepherds are a working breed. They love having jobs. Even simple jobs. There are fun puzzle games you can leave in your backyard for your dog to play with while you’re at work. This will help cut down on any future distruction down the road.

Also be aware that if your puppy is play biting, you want to correct that behavior now before he gets to big. Around 4 months you’re going to want to get a lot of teething toys to get ready for month 5 and 6 when he goes through it. They usually get really mouthy around this age and will test you on skills that they have learned or been corrected on. Be patient and consistent.

BEST OF LUCK!!!

If you have any more questions there are many different GSD websites with information on the breed.

Where can I buy German Shepherd Puppies in Surrey UK?

Hi, I’m after one young puppy German Shepherd in Surrey, then closer tom Kingston then better, what place/shop would you recommend me, and if you know someone that has puppies for sale then let me know as well.
I’ve had two already couple years ago and both were police trained and they were awesome, best dog ever!

Also it would be great if some one could tell me how much they cost.

I know a breeder and her dogs are used as working dogs and police dogs.

They are Schutzhund trained and all sables, although i know she has produced a couple of black pups too depending on the sire she put her b1tch too.

The breeders are fully competent trainers too.

Not in Surrey, in Manchester, but they are quality dogs bred to work but a great temperament too and can be kept as pets.

Also, not 100% decided about having another litter but there is a distinct possibility for one that should be ready at the end of Dec 09.

You couldn’t find better as far as i’m concerned.

Sometimes you have to travel and wait for the best things in life.

Google “Kazzardsway” and contact them if you’re interested.

German Shepherd Dog Food

german shepherd dog food
How long should i keep my German Shepherd Dog on large breed puppy food?

I took both of my dogs off puppy food when they were about 6 months old, one is a larger breed, and one is small, but my vet told me that technically when a dog is old enough to be fixed they can be taken off puppy food, dogs risk a chance of becoming obese on puppy food because of all the fat. What is more important that puppy food or adult food though is feeding Holistic dog food…that is dog food that is made from human grade food. Even Iams, Pedigree and most other well known commercial dog foos use chicken by products, which means if the chicken goes bad at Tyson, they throw it into the dog food styrophome and all! Even worse, there have been reports of animals being put down at shelters and then used for dog food. Even a case where a little girl died because of eating dog food with penicillin in it and she was allergic! I feed Nutro Holistic Dog Food, they have adult, puppy, and large breed formulas!

german shepherd dog food
What is the best food for a German Shepherd dog/?

I may be adopting one soon! Or so I am lead to believe.

Hills Science Plan as he’s getting on a bit now, once a day in the evening about 7. Sometimes for a treat I mix in a bit of a diluted oxo cube and some fresh peas (organic are his favourite, shelled by human hands) ABSOLUTELY NO WET FOOD… IT WILL MAKE HIS STINK… what are the people on about on here!!!

His hips are ok, but he’s covered by insurance. He’s not a chewer so he won’t wreck your home, he does love to get into bed though even though he’s not allowed, and will turn himself into a dead weight when you try and get him down and grunt.

Under no circumstances take him anywhere military personnel, men generally, particularly if they dressed in dark green, he will shake uncontrollably and cower behind your legs, however if they approach you, he will try to rip them apart, so best avoid them if you can. (Clues.. zulu9…clues)

Oh, and he likes licking hair. Hope you still got all yours!!! (lol!)

Hopefully it won’t come to it, as I’ve ordered a hit on the other bloke.

German Shepherd Chow Puppies

german shepherd chow puppies
I found a stray German Shepherd puppy…?

It was malnutritioned, and had a sweatshirt tie around its neck. We are keeping it for a while since the pound would probably put it to sleep… It is timid and we think it was abused. How do you approach and take care of a dog like that? (We also have a territorial Chow mix, how do I keep the dog feeling comfortable with the other dog around?)
I looked around, it was probably dumped.

The puppy may have gotten out of someones yard or dumped. Look in the paper and call your local animal shelter to see if anyone has reported a missing dog. Keep the dogs in separate areas including area which are used for elimination as you want to keep your Chow free from disease. You are correct, the pound will give him little or no time to be adopted so you must take him to the vet and make sure that he is clear of Parvo or distemper. This will be a minimal expense compared to what your Chow will endure if he catches any of these.
Being a puppy, he may not have been abused but is timid because he has been walking the streets and dodging people, cars and other dogs.
It’s wonderful that you have taken this stray puppy in. Thank you. Good luck.

What is the best age to have my german shepherd female puppy spayed?

I recently bought a german shepherd puppy, I want her spayed, I was wanting to know at what age can I get her fixed and what is the best dog food to feed her, she is growing so fast and eating all the time I dont think that the purina puppy chow is not filling her up. Please help me thanks.

◙ Neutering:
All 5 of your previous advisers need to click http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/The_GSD_Source/links/Neutering_001198315291/
and study the 2 research reports on the possible side-effects of neutering, with the odds of each happening related to the age at which neutering was done.
There is no blanket “best age” – it depends on the quality of your fencing & security pen, and on whether any of your household & “just walk in without waiting” visitors are thoughtless idiots.

The ideal is to wait at least until the bones have finished lengthening – say 11-15 months, although full maturity in GSDs isn’t until 2½-3½ years.
If you shouldn’t HAVE a bit.ch (for reasons such as fences that DON’T keep stray dogs & stray brats OUT, such as family members or friends who unthinkingly open the door without first checking where the pooch is) then you need to spay early. How early? – well, one of my bitches had her first season at 4 months old.

Two points:
• NEVER spay while the bit.ch is on-heat – there is too much risk of internal haemorrhage.
• If your fertile bit.ch DOES manage to get mated there are 2 solutions:
(1) Have the vet give her the course of 3 carefully-spaced injections that prevent the placentas from embedding into the uterus (I’m told the chemical is illegal in some Bible Belt states).
(2) Have her spayed 2-3 weeks after she finishes the heat.
Neither is an ideal solution to the problem (FENCING and PRECAUTIONARY-CARE are the ideal solutions!), but place less stress on the mentally-&-physically immature bit.ch’s system than does carrying & rearing a litter.

◙ Diet:
The proper diet for an adult canid is based on raw animal protein – birds, eggs, fish (but not those needles), insects, mammals, reptiles. That is what the canid digestive system (acid strength, available enzymes, gut length) evolved to perfectly suit. During the millennia of domestication, dogs that couldn’t survive on cooked table scraps plus whatever mice & moths they could catch died – just as dogs that cannot thrive on kibbles are nowadays dying from bloat.
Being mammals, puppies need enriched milk, as well.

• Add http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/The_GSD_Source in you browser’s Bookmarks or Favorites so that you can easily look up such as feeding, vaccinations, clubs, weights, teething, neutering, disorders, genetics.
Then click its Links => Feeding.
Note 2 points from the bloat research:
(1) If you work out which calendar years fit the 35 year period in which bloat went from almost-unheard-of to scaringly-common, you will find a close match with the period in which kibbles went from virtually unknown to virtually-universal. Coincidence? – I think NOT!
(2) It states that if you use kibbles you should cover them with cooked table scraps
(but no baked/roasted bones, please).

There are many ways to feed a dog, and most dogs survive most of them – very opportunistic, are canids! But some are more related to allergies and bloat than are others. That section includes a way to compare kibbles, if you MUST use them. My adult GSDs cost me $7.01 each per week, with not a crumb of kibble.

German Shepherd Skin Problems

german shepherd skin problems
My German Shepherd Cries when she potties.?

I have been taking her to the Vet now for this for about 6 months. I believe this started when she developed an allergy to red dye in her food and was continually chewing at her skin. Therefore injesting fur which made having a bowel movement painful. I have changed her food and her skin is very healthy. However she still screams when deficating. We have had her on numerous antibiotics which seem to work at the time but once she is finished with them we are back to the same problem. The vet says there really isn’t anything we can do which breaks my heart. I couldn’t stand to put her down. She is very frisky, loving and playful all of the time, even after this seemingly painful experience. What can I do to help her?

For pete’s sake, CHANGE VETS! She obviously has some anus problems. All those antibiotics could be part of the problem….they are known to destroy normal bacteria in the bowel as well as the abnormal. There’s a good possibility that her digestive system isn’t working properly because of it, resulting in hard stools that have left her anus sore. Monitor her fluid intake…..encourage more drinking by adding a few drops of chicken or beef broth to her water. Give her a bit of canned pumpkin once a day with her regular dog food. If you are giving her dry dog food, moisten it with chicken or beef broth to create softer stools. Give her a fish oil capsule daily. Isn’t anything you can do, my hind foot!!! SEE ANOTHER VET!

Is it normal that there is no coat on a small area of my German Shepherd dog after he had a skin problem?

How long does it take for coat to return to normal after a skin problem of my german shepherd dog

Yes, sometimes the skin problem can affect the root of the hair and cause the hair not to grow back. And sometimes it will just take a while. Patience will let you know….

Have you adopted your pet?

If you have… have you ever wondered if their families are looking for them?? I adopted my German Shepherd mix from Animal Control 7months ago. She was approximately 6 to 8 months old and she was wearing a cute little collar when they found her.

Every now and then, when I pass through the town I adopted her from… I keep an eye out for “Lost Dog” posters. But at the same time, I am afraid that there is a family out there missing her and wanting her back because I don’t think I could part with her.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much When Animal control gets an animal, there is a waiting period, before the animal goes up for adoption. (for the owners to claim the animal) and most people who lose a pet and want it back will contact animal control to see if it is there.

Just enjoy your new companion and don’t worry about someone taking her away. it’s not gonna happen.
