german shepherd yellow labrador mix In LADY AND THE TRAMP, what were the breeds of the three vicious dogs? ?
There were three vicious dogs that chased Lady throughout streets and alleys.
One dog was large and muscular looking with yellowish brown fur, and a hideous pug-ugly looking face.
One dog was smaller with grey fur coats looking like a little wolf.
The third looked very tall and thin with very long powerful legs and had a long snout and had brown fur.
I’m thinking one dog was a Rottweiler / Chow / yellow labrador mix, one was a keeshond / siberian husky mix, and one was a german shepherd / doberman mix.
What do you think their (mixed) breeds were?
When I was a little kid watching it, the one part of the scene I covered my eyes at, the one part I thought was really scary was when Tramp came to the rescue, the face-off was beginning. The silence begins as the dogs were growling at him.
The close-up of the one vicious dog’s scary face as it was growling at the camera FREAKED ME OUT!
Good question looks to me like a mixed breed not sure though….
where can i find a breeder of mixed dogs-yellow labrador retriever + german shepherd?
I saw a puppy a few weeks ago and i fell in love with it. the owner said it was a yellow lab mixed with german shepherd. it was yellow/tan in color with black around the nose. I looked them up online but I can’t find a breeder. does anyone know if these mixed breed dogs are bred and sold by certain breeders, or where i could find a litter of these puppies?

Reputable breeders only breed purebreds, being the reason why you can’t find this mix breed. You should look for this mix at shelters. Petfinder.com can help you find the mix. It may take some searching, but you will find it if you look long enough.
german shepherd labrador dog mix How do you get a dog to hug you?
My cousin has a male pit bull/labrador/german shepherd mix. My cousin wants her dog to jump up and give her a hug a lot of times. The problem is the dog doesn’t listen to commands and when she tries to lift the dog’s front paws up, he gets mad and I believe she’s hurting him. Is there a way to get him to hug her without getting him mad? Now, the dog likes to jump, but won’t jump on command.
A hug from my dog is it leaning against me real hard. I just taught it when it would lean against me. And then say hug and so now when I say hug he will run over and lean against me.
In the Top Ten Most Dangerous Dog list Do you know where these three dogs are placed:?
German Shepherd/Shepherd Mix
Great Dane Dogs
St Bernards
The reason I ask is that a lot of people I meet say my breed of dog is dangerous and bad with other dogs and people. They fail to realise however that German Shepherds are way more dangerous and even Great danes and believe it or not St Bernards. So go on try and guess……. Oh and by the way for all labrador owners out there in 1995 they were number five on the most dangerous dogs list. Are they really as cute as people think? I think not! Just making you aware of facts, Akita’s are not attacking people anywhere near as much as other breeds like, German Shepherds – Labradors – etc.
Their placings depend on what City or State you are in and the popularity of the breed.
Here is a suggestion for you, instead of ONLY worrying about your breed, you should worry about all of the breeds that are being considered for BSL and help people realize that, the absolute, number one factor that determines whether or not a dog will become dangerous is…………… ownership. Humans are most reponsible for dangerous dogs. Humans are responsible for creating the circumstances and behavior that lead to dog bites or maulings.
Dogs bites wouldn’t be an issue if people would 1) research their dogs (breed and/or breeder) before bringing them home, and 2) do some basic socialization and training. It’s not difficult, folks. But most people put more time into choosing a car than their dogs.
Once enacted BSL will spread like wildfire to all breeds so why not work for the elimination of BSL altogether instead of defending only your chosen breed.
The next time I am writing letters and getting signatures for petitions against BSL do you think I should reconsider and only worry about the breed I love? Your breed like it or not has a bad reputation like mine so quit trying to shift the blame or rather the danger and be part of the solution, not the problem.
In IL, all those breeds are on the so called list but so is yours because breed popularity drive the stats.
This is the list of some of the dogs that are considered dangerous or have been considered for BSL.

german shepherd labrador mix Is my puppys ear suppose to point up?
She’s a 3 month German Shepherd/Labrador mix. Her ears are kinda floppy, sometimes it flops up to the side? So, I’m wondering as she grows up, will it be pointy?
She is a mutt, there is no “suppose to” because there is no standards. They may stand they may not.
Is this cruelty to the dog?
Okay, so I’m a teenager who does dog walking… Before you say “Teenagers shouldn’t do that! It’s to much responsibility!” FYI this Rottweiler, Husky, German Shepherd, Labrador Mix I take out HAS improved greatly since I started taking her out…
Anyway, back to the question… I took her out today on the BMX and she ran/jogged with me for 20 minutes solid and then I stopped to give her a 5 minute break… We then went another 15 minutes and stopped for 5 again… Then once more for 15 minutes and then we got home… Did I over exercise her or was that ok?
TY

german shepherd shelters Should I get a German Shepherd?
My husky growls at other big dogs through the fence. Shes okay with small dogs but i`m not sure about big dogs and I want to get a German Shepherd from a shelter but i`m not sure how my husky is going to take it.
Well, the only thing is try and have a test, I’m sure the shelter will let you take the dog for 2-5 days, if it works out fine, then you’ll know.
Why Its Important to Choose the Right Dog Breed
You’ve finally decided you want to get a dog, but how do you go about choosing a dog breed that will fit your personality and lifestyle. There are over 400 different dog breeds to choose from. Don’t just consider the outward appearance when picking a dog breed.
Do you want a male or female? Do you want a puppy or an adult? Do you want a lap dog or guard dog?
First, consult with a professional dog handler or a professional dog trainer to learn about certain dog personalities of different breeds, and try to match what you want with what a particular dog has to offer. Also, talk to a veterinarian about your choice of a purebred or mixed breed dog. The professional trainers and vets’ opinions are invaluable, as they handle many different dogs every day and have first hand knowledge of the characteristics, and qualities of different types of dogs and breeds.
You can choose between a purebred dog or a mixed breed dog. The advantages of purebred dogs are consistency of appearance, size, coat type, and color. If you decide on a German Shepherd breed, you can be certain it will grow to a certain size…It will be similar to other German Shepherds in appearance…Its color, temperament, coat, etc will be similar to other German Shepherds. Purebred dogs generally have more genetic faults and deformities than do mixed breeds.
Mixed breed puppies may mature to look like their dam, their sire (if known) or neither. Their coats may be rough, smooth, or wiry. Adult mixed breeds are difficult to ascertain, as are their expressions. These variations are multiplied when either or both parents are from mixed backgrounds. Mixed breeds usually have a certain amount of heterosis ( increased vigor or other superior qualities that come from crossbreeding), which, under some circumstances, result in stronger and more disease-resistant dogs. A mixed breed puppy is likely to have a very individual personality, seemingly unrelated to either of its parents.
The temperament of mixed breeds are often quieter and more stable than those of purebreds, although this characteristic is not consistent. Temperament is partially genetic and partly the result of experience and training. Many purebreds have a notably quiet temperament, and an occasional mixed breed is unpredictable.
Before you select a purebred or a mixed breed, decide what you expect of the dog. If you have a desire to exhibit it in conformation shows, obedience trials, field trials, herding tests, or other American Kennel Club sponsored events, you must start out with a purebred.
If you want a companion, a family pet, or a child’s dog and have no aspirations of winning blue ribbons, a mixed breed should fill your need nicely. Mixed breed puppies and adult dogs are plentiful, both from shelters and private homes. They cost less to buy, and may be easier to handle. Mixed breed dogs can compete in Frisbee contests, 4-H obedience, and non-AKC agility trials, and are included in the AKC-sponsored Canine Good Citizen program.

german shepherd labrador retriever mix dog German shepherd dogs and thunder?
I have two dogs; a very skittish golden labrador retriever/australian shepherd mix and a very regal (if I do say so myself!) German shepherd. My yellow lab mix runs from the vacuum cleaner, the blinds in the windows being rattled, and mean faces given to her. My other dog, on the other hand, seems to be afraid of nothing… except thunder.
For some reason, both my last German shepherd and my current one seem to become very nervous (and in the case of my current, even fearful to the point of shuddering and hyperventilation) before a storm and especially when it thunders.
Is this something specific to the breed or a coincidence with both of mine of the same breed acting the same? If specific to the breed, how did it come about? Is it caused by fear of the thunder itself or pressure or something else entirely?
German Shepherds and any breed can be afraid of Thunder and storms in general but I will say that 75% of the german shepherds I have rescued have had at least some response to storms/thunder.
Theories include: Barometric pressure changes. Dogs can feel the subtle changes and know something is going to happen.
Being left outside: some dogs form severe anxieties from being left outside at some point in a thunderstorm alone and they remember that fear.
Their ears: German shepherds have ears like Satelite dishes; designed to pick up and focus any noise detected. They can hear better than some other breeds because of the design of their ears which can increase their susceptibility to sound and they can hear it long before others can.
You: German Shepherds are very tuned into their ‘people’ and can sometimes pick up the anxiousness or excitement in their owners. They themselves then get anxious or excited. If the ‘alpha’ is agitated, there must be a reason for it they think.
Instinct: wild canines seek shelter during storms. It could be a throwback to their wild ancestors in which the primitive fight or flight instinct kicks in; they just dont understand WHY they have this feeling and panic.
Natural: Dogs can just be afraid of loud sounds like anyone or anything else and there may be no contributing factor.
Inexperienced owners a bad choice for a first dog.
I’ve been reading questions entitled “Good dog breeds for first time owners?” lately and from the list of bad dog choices for inexperienced owners, most had Border Collies, German Shepherds, Samoyeds, and Huskies on them, which led me to thinking…
Has anyone started out with a dog breed that is generally better for experienced owners? If so, what was your dog’s breed and what was it like living with him/her?
I started out with a Golden Retriever x Labrador Retriever mix, and he was, and still is, a great friendly dog. So I’ve never had the chance to start out with a dog not recommended for first time owners although I’d have loved to experience the challenge. xD;
Ah, shoot, the title was supposed to be “Inexperienced owners + a bad choice for a first dog”, but Y!A erased the “+” sign. Just posting this so people do not get confused!
GREAT question and observation. The breeds that you have mentioned are definitely not for those whom lack experience in handling or living with dogs. There are numerous enough breeds available to choose from that would be better suited for the new and inexperienced dog owners.
Prospective dog owners should evaluate their own personalities, tolerances, lifestyle, and expectations of the dog they decide to bring into their household. Paying attention to this kind of detail will aid in a better chance for a successful human/canine relationship. It is good to keep in mind that this is not all about the human; the dogs are involved also. Sadly, there are way too many discarded and destroyed pets simply because the human did not put any real effort towards their new endeavor (dog ownership).
Personally, I get along much better with breeds such as Chows and German Shepherds. Although these breeds are considerably different in many ways, they still share certain characteristics that I like. I do not have patience, nor do I enjoy, timid or shy dogs. LOL! Chows and GSD’s can be timid and shy, but I do not consider these traits as true characteristics of either breed. So I simply avoid breeders that have timid, shy dogs in their breeding program. (This is also a hereditary issue and not just environmental.)
My family usually had the typical small muttley dog, or toy poodles. They were basically my mom’s dogs. So, my “first” dog was a GSD/lab x. Next was an Akita/GSD x; then Shetland Sheedogs, then Chows, then German Shepherds (GSD). I currently have an 18 mos old white German Shepherd and a black & tan dapple Miniature Dachshund. They are both awesome animals — temperament, confirmation, health…man am I lucky (so are they)!
And if someone views a certain breed as “challenging”, the best advice is to stay away from that breed. It means that this person is already intimidated and probably not compatible with that breed.
Thanks for bringing this question to the forum. Its ultimate resolution will help create awareness of this “issue” and bring forth better people/dog relationships.

Companions, Workers, Helpers all on Four Legs!
Dogs over the years have become a very integral part of our lives. They are our loyal companions. They do not talk back, they do not judge us, they are there when we need their companionship and their help.
Today we use dogs for a wide range of tasks. There are dogs to lead the blind, help people in wheelchairs, visit sick people in hospitals, sniff out drugs and so much more.
Of course for a dog to get to this point, extensive training is necessary. For some dogs they are specifically bred for some of these tasks. For example the Seeing Eye breeds their own German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Golden retrievers and Labrador/Golden crosses. These dogs spend time with a foster family until they are old enough to return for training.
It is the foster family’s responsibility to love, care for and give gentle guidance to this possible future Seeing Eye dog. This dog will allow somehow who is visually impaired lead a normal independent life.
The foster family plays a very important part in the training process. They will be building the foundation for the intense training that these dog will go through.
They need to show this puppy as much of the outside world as possible. For example they need exposure to things such as traveling in a car, sounds, sudden noises, other animals, crowds etc. These dogs can not be spooked by these things when they are working as a Seeing Eye Dog.
If for some reason these dogs do not pass their training they are offered back to the foster family as a pet or are placed in a home or possibly another agency that will use the dog such as a police department.
Even though many of us that have dogs will never train our dog to this extent it is very important that we at least teach our dog the basics of obedience.
Our dogs need to learn how to walk on a leash, sit, lay down and come when called. Of course they also need to be housebroken. This training as I have said before starts the day we bring them home. You can’t let that puppy run amuck for three months and then expect them to pick up on the training right away. You need to build the foundation blocks for future training.
One thing that people do seem to let a new puppy get away with is nipping. Some people seem to think since they still have their baby teeth it is no big deal. The nip just seems like a little love bite. What happens when your puppy outgrows those baby teeth and is still nipping? Well if you have a large breed dog I would say that someone could get seriously hurt. Even a small breed can do a lot of damage.
Would it not have been easier when the puppy first started this to correct it and refocus his biting over to an acceptable toy? Yes, I know, it is just so cute when they are biting your hand and growling when they are so small but it is not cute when they grow up and those jaws have enough force to not only break the skin but possibly break a bone.
Another thing that people tend to do when their puppy is small is to play rough with the puppy. The rough play does tire them out but unfortunately you are teaching them that this is acceptable behaviour. As they grow and become stronger they are going to be harder to handle. Wouldn’t it be better to walk them or teach them to fetch a ball or a frisbee? This will also tire them out.
Even though you have introduced some bad habits right away these dogs are still very trainable. It may take a little longer, so remember to be patient when you are training. If you have the time and the patience you can teach you dog many things. Just training the basics is a good start but you can have so much fun teaching them other things as well. Not only will it tire them out but it will help you also.
Winter can be a miserable time of the year for those of us that get cold weather and snow. However I find it a great time to be out in the yard with the dogs. Their first snow has to be the funniest. Nothing to me is funnier than watching a dog catch a snowball and wondering where it went. The look on there face is priceless.

german shepherd labrador retriever Is My German Shepherd Jealous ?
I have two outdoor dogs a labrador retriever and a German shepherd,, well everytime i pet my Lab my German Shepherd bites the hell out of my lab what is the problem?
When you pet your lab, it acts submissive and happy because that is what happy dogs do when their leader pets and praises them. What is most likely happening is that your Shepherd is mixing up the signals and seeing this exchange of love between you and the Lab as you Dominating over it and it is taking the opportunity to get its licks in and re-assert its dominance over the other dog. It is kinda like a cowardly bully that never picks the fight but always jumps in after one is started.
You are not doing anything wrong. You are going to have to divert your Shepherds attention when you are petting your lab. One of the many tricks that you can use is to go to your petstore and get 4 Kongs. Take two of the kongs and put a treat or cheese or P.Butter inside. Then when you go outside you toss one of them for the Shepherd and when it runs off to get it you give the other one to the Lab and pet and love on the lab while it is sitting with you. Meanwhile the Shepherd is happy and occupied with its prize and is not obsessed with dominating the other dog.
But why the two other kongs? That way you don’t have to take them away form the dogs when you go inside. Next time you go out… just grab the two other loaded kongs and do the smae thing a collect the ones that you used last time on your way back in. Make sense?
This is just one of several little tricks that you can use.
I would very much suggest that you call a good dog trainer in your area that can give you some hands on tricks and tips so that you can put a permanant stop to this unwanted behavior.
Good Luck to you and I hope that this has helped you.

Look Here for a Dog Breed Best Suited for You
Dog breeds are certain types of dogs which have distinctive looks and temperament. Dog breeds can reveal a lot about the size, appearance, and personality of a canine. Doing research to find out which dog breed will suit your personality and lifestyle is essential. Dog breeds are plentiful and you can always find a reputable dog breeder, but it is important that you understand the dog breed you are interested in before going to the dog breeder.
Size should be a factor when deciding on which type of breed would be best for you. Naturally, if you live in a small house or apartment, a smaller dog would be better, where as a larger dog would be better suited with a large yard or out in the country.
There are different dog breed groupings consisting of: The Sporting Dogs…The Hound Dogs…The Working Dogs…The Terriers…The Toy Group…The Non-Sporting Dogs.
The Sporting dogs were developed as bird dogs. These include the Pointers, Retrievers, Setters, Spaniels and others.
The Hound dogs were developed to hunt using sight (sight hounds) or scent (scent hounds). These include the Beagle, Coonhound, Bloodhound and others.
The Working dogs were developed for a variety of jobs, including guarding property, guarding livestock, or pulling carts. These include the Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, Bernese Mountain Dogs and others.
The Terrier dogs were developed mainly to hunt vermin and rodents and to dig them from their burrows or dens. These come in various sizes, from the small Cairn Terrier to the large Airedale Terrier.
The Toy dogs are small companion breeds that include the Toy Poodles, Chihuahua,Toy Spaniels, Miniature Pinscher and others. The Toy Group make up for their small size with their big personalities. These are well suited for older or disabled people, because they are easier to look after, as they eat less and need less exercise. Usually, small dog breeds are just ten inches or less tall at the shoulder. In most breeds, the male is slightly larger than the female, but the difference is generally small. This is referred to as breeding true
The Non-Sporting dogs that do not fit into any of the other groups, are usually larger than Toy dogs. These include the Miniature Poodles, Boston Terrier, Bichon Frises and others.
For those who suffer from allergies, a Hypoallergenic dog is a breed that might enable them to have a pet in their home. Some dog breeds have been considered as hypoallergenic, such as the Yorkshire Terrier and the Afghan Hound whose is the same pH as human hair, therefore, creating no threat. Some other good breed choices for those who have allergies are the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier…Bichon Frisé…Shih Tzu…Bolognese…Poodle…Barbet…Portuguese Water Dogs…Schnauzer…Maltese. These dogs shed very little of their hair. However, they do produce dander, but the amount is so small that very few people experience allergy symptoms when in contact with these breeds. However, no canine is known to be completely 100% non allergenic. Hypoallergenic dog breeds are usually single-coated, non-shedding (or low-shedding), and generally smaller dogs.
The top 5 dogs registered for 2007 with the AKC are:

About four million dogs enter shelters each year:
400,000 puppies from households that produce litters but do not place the pups in new homes.
Strays, about 2.2 million
Reclaimed by their owners, about 600,000, (leaving 1.6 million strays available for adoption).
Owner surrenders, About 1.8 million (300,000 for euthanasia and 1.5 million for adoption).
One million of the 3.1 million dogs available for adoption do get new homes, leaving 2.1 million additional dogs euthanized. However, this number is not broken down by health or temperament, leaving a gap in understanding of just how many healthy dogs die for lack of a home
Thats what Will Happen
What kind of breed is my 2 year old pup?
Copper, my 2 year old pup, is believed to be a Basenji, a bark-less African dog, according to my friends. Well, the bark-less thing about the breed isn’t true. Copper will bark at anything that has four legs, furry and can run. (Example: a squirrel) And he will chase it, no matter if he breaks the electrical fence or what. He looks like a labrador retriever mixed with a German Shepherd. He has a long-tail, you could call him short-haired, and he has some wrinkles. I would love it if someone read this and answered it. It would help a lot to our family.

german shepherd shelter Thinking of rescuing an adult German Shepherd, but wondering…?
What are the chances of me finding a house broken, trained, between 1-4 years old male German Shepherd at a shelter? And should I be worried about health problems with shelter dogs? I want to adopt because I don’t want the work that comes with a puppy (I know all dogs require work, but I think you all know what I mean about puppies). Can someone give me advice on adopting a shelter Shepherd and answer my other questions too? Thanks
PS- I also have a female 1 year old Pomeranian, and want a companion for her. I’ve done my research, and obviously the two will be supervised when they play.
Does it have to be a shelter dog or can it be a rescue dog? German Shepherd rescue is so overwhelmed with adult dogs right now, and they have some really really wonderful dogs.
The chances of finding a mostly housebroken young adult male GSD are high. GSD’s are so smart that the chances are good that if it’s been with a family, it will know some basic commands. But, with GSD’s, training is an ongoing and daily thing.
The rescues won’t adopt to you if the main reason you want a dog is to be a companion for another animal. This raises serious red flags about your committment to work, exercise, and train a dog.
Rescued GSD’s can be wonderful dogs, if you have the time to put into them.
The good thing about rescue is that the dogs are usually privately fostered, giving the foster home the chance to see the quirks of the dogs, feel the personality of the dog, and to better match the dogs with your home. Since you have a small dog, they should be able to tell you how small dog friendly any given dog is along with how trained and willing to learn the dog is. There are some very stubborn GSD’s and some that live to please.

So You Want a German Shepherd Puppy, Huh?
So, you have finally decided to get a German Shepherd puppy. Could be a great choice if you did your homework ahead of time! German Shepherds are known for having many great qualities that one would look for in a dog. Some of these include strength, intelligence, loyalty and obedience.
Well, now that you have decided to purchase the German Shepherd puppy the question arises, where is the best place to purchase the puppy? Most German Shepherd owners would agree that the best place to purchase a new puppy would be from a registered breeder. This is by far the best way to get the puppy but there are other methods for getting a German Shepherd puppy too. (One way is to find a German Shepherd rescue center in your local area or to just go to the animal shelter and find a puppy that way).
Assuming that you’re going the breeder route, there are a few things to keep in mind. Do your research carefully and take your time. You do not want to rush this process. Now that you have found your specific German Shepherd Dog breeder, try and meet with that person as often as possible before purchasing the GSD puppy to make sure they are a legitimate breeding service. If you have any questions about the dog make sure to contact the breeder by phone or email, a good breeder will be expecting this.
Once you get to the kennel look around to see if its a clean, well kept place. Look at the German Shepherd puppy carefully to see it has been well feed and kept healthy. You also want to make sure that the puppy is playful, curious and clean. Make sure that the GSD puppy has received all of its shots and has been properly dewormed.
One thing you need to do is look into the parents of the German Shepherd puppy you are interested in to make sure they have a healthy history and look for any sign of disease or other problems as this could be passed down to the puppy you are now looking at buying. Some of the illnesses that plague German Shepherds are bloat, canine degenerative myelopathy and von Willebrands disease. One of the key health issues to look for is hip and elbow dysplasia, among others.
Overall, it might be a lot of work to find a good German Shepherd puppy but taking the time to find the right dog for you and your family in the beginning makes all the difference in the world for both you and the dogs future happiness. You will not regret the work you put into finding the perfect German Shepherd puppy in the long run. Happy German Shepherd puppy hunting!
